Why and how did Riverside not have a single player chosen for All State?
Posted By: Jack Rozier Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 07:45 PM
Before the flood of hatemail begins.. I would like to congratulate all the players selected.. and specifically:

Kipp Amaker
Paddy Flynn
Kyle Hughes
Ryan Kropp
Enzo Martinez
Zach Prince
Seth Kulasekera
Kevin Ros
Jason Vitaris

I've had the pleasure to see all these guys play. They really do represent the best of the best in South Carolina soccer.

For me.. Enzo and Seth tie for MVP..probably giving the edge to Enzo just because of his youth..and the shoes he had to fill.

Overall..a really solid year of soccer for SC as far as I'm concerned.

Morgan Thomas is listed under the boys 1A, but she is a girl on girls varsity team!!! this needs to be changed!!!

wow how is it that players from 10 of the top 15 teams get players on the 3A boys all state list and Riverside the #3 team didn't have anyone on their...maybe whoever decided this should have waited until after the state champions are decided
Posted By: The Hammer Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 10:07 PM
Interesting indeed. How can Eastside get 3 picks, but the region champs get none? Doesn't make any sense!
Posted By: cabj12 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 10:22 PM
Did the Riverside coach nominate anybody?
Posted By: Trisoc4 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 11:03 PM
The following three players were nominated for Riverside:

Aaron Peter
Brad Kocis
Kyle Rodgers
Posted By: Always Right Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 11:10 PM
Three each from Eastside and Greenville? Yeah right! That's believable!
Posted By: socrmom13 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 11:21 PM
Lots of talent in the upstate - Doesn't appear much of that talent made it.
Posted By: cabj12 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 11:47 PM
Well 10 out of the 18 are from the upstate so a lot of the talent in the upstate actually did make it. But certainly some deserving players were left out.
Posted By: socrmom13 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/07/06 11:55 PM
Agreed - only 1 player from the region we played in for the 4a boys.
Posted By: kdlsc Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/08/06 12:25 AM
In AAA boys, 13 of the 18 selected had coaches on the selection committee. I have checked the other classification yet.
Posted By: cabj12 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/08/06 12:29 AM
Well when the coach nominates three players that are all defenders and only five defenders are selected overall no wonder they all didn't make all state. The reason Eastside and Greenville got three selections is because the coach nominated a player for forward, midfield, and defender.

is someone going to be added to the boys 1A since there are only 17 players now???
Posted By: FMFAN Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/08/06 02:44 AM
Rachel Datz from Fort Mill is a Junior

Congrats to all the boys and girls that made this squad!

Do these names go in the paper or do these players get a patch or something?
Posted By: gunners04 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/08/06 08:13 PM
The players' names are listed in The State newspaper today on page C3
Posted By: Kyle Heise Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/08/06 08:13 PM
ZJ21, The State ran the list in today's paper. All-State Teams
Posted By: ZJ21 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/08/06 08:22 PM
okay thank you
i ahve asked this question before. but does that mean there is actually like a "starting line up" and then just seven other random players or what? because when i looked at that list it was funny to see the positions in which some people where placed
Posted By: Edmund Carson Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/09/06 12:07 AM
There is generally a minimum of a full side of all positions and seven at any position. The point is to avoid selecting 18 of the points leaders and abandoning the defenders and midfielders in the trenches. Players are listed under the position that their coach nominated them as.

I would like to congradulate Kimberly Dehondt from Pendleton...This is the schools second year having a program and the second year someone from the team has made the all state team. CONGRATS KIMI!!!!!!

Sarah Delap is a Junior not a Senior.

How can you select All State teams before the finals are completed? State Champion Riverside Warrior Boys don't have a single player on the All State team...give me a break. How do players get selected for this team?
Posted By: cabj12 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/14/06 09:45 PM
Regardless of whether Riverside won state or lost back in the Greenville game, they still should have landed some players on All-State. Now that they ended up winning state it is like "that is ridiculous, they should wait till after playoffs" but it is possible for them to select a good all state team before the end of the season. But if they did wait till after the season to choose players then there certainly wouldn't be this problem.
Posted By: Jack Rozier Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/14/06 09:52 PM
Just playing devil's advocate here.. but.. just because you have "the best team" or..had the best post season.. doesn't necessarily you have the best players.

I'm not defending the fact that Riverside doesn't have any all-state reps..just throwing that out there.
Posted By: 2004striker Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/14/06 09:59 PM
# 20 for Riverside is a great player and just a soph. Riverside loses only 3 Seniors and will make another run at title next year.Compared to Dreher, Riverside has greater team play, speed and quickness. Dreher would lose everytime to Riverside due to a lack of speed and quickness. Benny is only one with speed on that team. No one for Riverside, except #20, stood out because they play so well as a team.
Posted By: GVLSoccerDad Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 02:25 AM
L-E Dude...I agree with you 100 %...just because you win State doesn't mean that you have the best players but I can't believe that two players from Dreher made all state because none of them stood out...at least not this weekend.
Posted By: Talon Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 11:00 AM
I think the real problem may be the fact that Eastside had players selected for all-state and lost the region to Riverside. This is the real error IMO.
Posted By: Steve Perry Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 05:31 PM
Look at it this way. Real Madrid has every superstar in world. You'd take any player from Real Madrid over a team like Arsenal(Except for Henry). But this year, Arsenal is in the Champions League final and Madrid didn't even win La Liga. It's about the individual player, not how good his team is. So what i'm trying to say here is that look at the players nominated for Riverside. Look at the ones who made it for Eastside. Would you really take any of those players over the ones from Eastside just because Riverside beat them twice? No, not a chance. And the same goes for Greenville, do remember that Greenville punished Riverside earlier in the year.
Posted By: 2004striker Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 05:46 PM
I would rather have a team that wins a state championship with total team play and with no 'all-state' selections, than a team that does not win, yet has three or more 'allstate' selections. Its all about team, not the individual.
Posted By: GVLSoccerDad Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 06:06 PM
SP...I never meant to imply that an RHS player should have taken the place of any of the players from Eastside or Greenville...they absolutely deserve being placed on the team...no debate. Just feels like picking an "All Tournament" team before the tournament is over.

Trust me...all of the boys are RHS would rather be State Champions vs. "All State" selections...maybe this means that Brian Dender should be AAA Coach of the Year?!?!?
Posted By: ChuckNorris Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 06:38 PM
I just don't understand the thinking here....it's not an "All tournament" team, it's All State-the best 18 players as voted on by the high school coaches. This is done prior to state championship weekend so the focus can be on "What has this player done in the season?" It takes 11 to make a championship team, that doesn't mean that those 11 are the best in there positions, just that they play better together than any other 11. If one top player was all that was needed to win a champioship then why wasn't Jamal playing Sat.(yes, I know he has been injured most of the year, but just for example) GVL, your reasoning seems to be blinded.
Posted By: Lima99 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 06:53 PM
I think that if someone from the Riverside soccer program would have nominated some of it's boys players for allstate at least one if not two would have been selected but since he did not there were no Riverside players selected.
Posted By: cabj12 Re: 2006 SCHSSCA All-State Teams - 05/15/06 10:39 PM
Good call 2004striker. I think Greenville sold the game to Riverside in order to get three all state selections.

I suppose that's why they don't base the selections off of one match, though.

And just to be clear..I'm the last person to defend All-state selections..TRUST ME! I just like to play Devil's advocate.

And you have to admit.. R-side was not impressive at all this season (at least for those of us not directly associated with them)..they did not perform well in the Palmetto Cup..were mediocre in the regular season..and nearly lost to Traveler's Rest in the first round. Gotta cut the selection committee some slack here..true maybe there should have been at least one R-side player on the list.. but these guys didn't make a peep until they BLEW EVERYONE AWAY ..with their win over Greenville.
