You got a grudge or something? First of all, no player in SC is anywhere near as good as Enzo. Secondly, if you call intensity and tenacity whining and complaining then I will take it. His whining and complaining has led his team to the state championship. Yeah sure he gets a little rowdy out there, but he gets the job done! Finally, you can criticize him all you want, but from what I see, Alex is a heckuva player and he has his team in the state championship!
lets just see if he can win one without his brother to carry the team.... then if that happens i will admit to being proven wrong but til then!!! DARKNESSS PREVAILS!!!
Well they are back in the championship without almighty Enzo. Regardless of how they do Alex is the heart of that team and an extremely skilled player.

Funny hearing this from a player that is no where the skill as Alex. He has his team in the state championship alot of other good players in south carolina can't say that right now. If you want to put someone else down look at yourself as a player first and evaluate yourself before you talk about someone else's skill.

And if memory serves me right, didn't Enzo play with Northwestern in 2007 State Championship and they lost to Spring Valley? He is a great player, don't get me wrong, but he is gone. His brother may not be as good, but they made it to the championship game. Besides getting that last Win of the season and being named champion, their isn't much left on the checklist for "Goals of the Season." I think if he wants to step out from his brother's shadow, he will just have to play his game and lead his to team through their final test.
does anyone else feel bad for the other Northwestern players who are apparently reduced to Alex's property?
They probably don't care as long as they win.

He is their leader! Just like a general leads his army into battle! Alex is their general! He is the motor! He is the heart! If Alex plays to the best of his ability, NW will not lose!
Well when you are the best player SC has ever seen... Hey Gucci, here is a fact. Northwestern has the best SC team ever, player, and a national championship. Irmo? I rest my case. Alex is the best SC player. Only reason your boy lunceford won gatorade player of the year was beause Alex's team was to busy dominating in college.
Gucci Mane is overrated. The song "Wasted" is terrible.
if your definition of overrated is starting as a freshman helping his team make it to the state championship, winning back to back state championships the next to years, two national championships (in club and high school), all state multiple years, all region multiple years and mvp this year, participated in esp, and now he's goin for his third straight state championship WITHOUT his brother enzo.. well then i guess your right
I think he is overrated just like every other "amazing" player in this state, but no more than any other player. Wait till how he performs in the championship game and in college and then you can make these claims

If Alex leads his team to victory like his brother did last year then I think he will live up to the hype. As that "No More Mr. Bad Guy" article or whatever it was said, Ive always heard of Enzo and Alex, Enzo and Alex, Enzo and Alex. When you ask anyone whos better, Enzo is always the immediate answer. He has immense boots to fill, and until after tomorrow night, his legacy hangs in the balance.
alex is not enzo and for that i am glad. he is a differnt play and DOES NOT want to be enzo. u really think nhs would have won the last 2 years without him? he not only was at esp for 2 years he was mvp the first 2 year. enzo did not go to esp twice, just once. make no mistake his legacy is made. he is the man of sc soccer this year.
These topics continue to amaze me. Alex is darn good. The people who make these topics are just completely 100% jealous PLAYERS and feel as though they have a right to write on these message boards about a player that is by far in the top 5 players in the state. And another thing, the only reason why the Luncfor kid got gatorade player of the year is because his dad( MANCHESTER) is up everyones butt and continually post videos of his son online and writes to ESPN while sending them videos of him. You honestly think ESPN watched High School soccer this year in SC??? haha-JOKE!
ALEX IS A GREAT PLAYER AND HE IS A DIFFERENT PLAYER THAN ENZO. DIFFERENT.

Alright Gucci! You know your my boy but were out of line on this one! The times I've seen him play he has made a difference in every game and big match when needed. IMO he was the Player of the Game in last years final. He is legit and I'm willing to bet his teammates love him and what he brings/means to their program. Should be a good one tomorrow. Heard they have Phil Savitz For Governor T-Shirts on sell at Memorial Stadium already. Nike Dom Wren visors going for $20 People are lining up now to see this junt.
and for an extra 5 dollars theyll bleach your hair after you buy your tickets for the game!!!
I hear Alex is printing out free t-shirts that say "I wish I had two high school state championship rings and won two national championships." On the back it says "Oh wait, I do I'm Alex Martinez."
well said leo, well said. in fact nuff said. made me lol.
The only person that thinks Alex's abilities exceed realistic standards is Alex. He is a quality player but does not do a good job of playing within himself. The best players are those that impact the game whether they are leading the charge or not; that is why Enzo was so successful. Alex only seems to be interested in the game whenever he is on the ball and that is his biggest downfall. The best players and teams are those that back the person beside them; regardless of skill. Alex is one to ridicule those who do not meet his standard (shown by verbal remarks and body language toward teammates during games). If he could buy into the "team" then he would be a much more effective player... we'll see if that light turns on during pre-season this fall.

Excuse me? What does that mean? I'm confused.

Alex was the MVP of last year's championship imo. He took over the game. Without him last year, Irmo would have won regardless of how good Enzo was/is.
i got you you wakka! those tshirts gonna b sellin fast and quick just like white powda! and oh whats your estimate of how many IRMO fans will be baked out of their minds at Saturdays game. and how many RASTA flags will we see?
alex martinez is a G... all i gotta say

very interesting. enzo was just a more confident and dominant player on my opinion.

on my experience, my younger brother is bigger, faster, stronger, with more footwork, with a missile on his left foot, won many things since very young individually but his teams hardly ever won anything, he won more playing next to me.

the conclusion can be that great players are not always great leaders, and great leaders are the ones bringing the championships. my younger brother would score 4 or 5 goals in one game, and his team would not always win, just not a talker or a great motivator for his teammates.

this alex kid seen to have good skill maybe a little slow but enzo looks like the real deal, but they are still young, only time can tell whos who.
Alex is still maturing, as a person and a player. He has great skill and unsurpassed passion for the game and for winning. Channeling that passion to positive effect is easier for some than others and I think Alex recognizes that as an area of his game that can be improved. Enjoy watching him, give him time to grow, and get off his back - he's still a kid after all.
Alex is very good.

We played NW twice this year. Alex was invisible in the first game and prominent in the 2nd with 2 scores. He definitely has skill, but he can be off/on. All players have good games and bad games.

The NW team is better w/o depending on one person.

The fact that they just won the State Championship means that Alex was 1/11th of that effort. Go TEAM! Congrats to the whole team.
You go Alex!
That total domination/ demilition of Irmo by NW just made this conversation or discussion or argument totally irrelevant and ignorant.

I think you watched the wrong game, sir.
they won 4-2 and NW scored 2 dubious own goals, in finishing, the most important aspect of football, NW destroyed Irmo...even the most ardent Irmo supporter should be able to agree with that. Its not like Irmo will never be back, they are still a good squad and will be fine for next year, just on tonight they were not on top of their game

I agree with most of what you say, I just always tend to feel little uneasy whenever people claim a game was one-sided--especially considering the heart both teams brought to the field tonight. It's a bit disrespectful to the winners and the losers, downplaying what I thought was a very hard-fought game on both ends.

Your last point especially is a bit sad though...I've been away for most of the season and this is the first game of '10 that I saw live. I'm proud of my boys and always will be, but a few --certainly not all-- of them were decidedly off mark tonight, compared to how I've seen them play before. In the end though, I think they gave it their best and that's all we can ask for. I'll be in the stadium again next year, and I hope they will be too. This rivalry is the stuff you make movies out of. /eyes 100+ anons viewing the forums....*hint hint*

As far as this ignorant comment goes...you can take and shove it!

And while we're at it...how does that crow taste??
I can agree with you on that. The Irmo players showed a lot of guts coming back from 3-0 down with 15 minutes left to make it 3-2! A lot of teams would hvae given up and many past Irmo teams probably would have too! Yeah and if they make that movie about Dennis this would be a great final scene!

I sat behind the Irmo fans for all of ten minutes before moving. Don't know if they would be as into the game if they didn't have "items" keeping them motivated. Have to say it caused great entertainment throughout the whole game however.
