HELLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ladies and gents we have a real barn burner at Memorial right now.

I am back after a brief intermission of a few hours. We have a score here it's

CC 2
AM 0

CC just converted a deserved penalty to go up two goals to nil. AM will really have to get out of their clubber chairs if they want to get anything from this game.

CESA magnets are glowing extra bright right now.

It didn't score though as the 12 inch vertical failed to produce!

I hope they do. BE being blanked and private schools going only 1/4 in 1A/2A boys and girls would be refreshing for SC soccer.

I dont understand why the 'girl' should be dropped. She is a 'girl' playing on a boy's team. The boy's and girl's games are so different. (Ive played boys and coached both.) That the fact she is getting the recoginition is outstanding and knucks for her. I think the emphasis on the girl is a statement to her level of play and should only be seen as a compliment.

Keep it up BL.

They're doing starting lineups for SA and JL Mann currently...

Predictions on the match? I saw SA had a tough road to get here...that might define their character as a team because JL Mann looks BIG and HUNGRY

SA will have to keep it together if they want to repeat...

meanwhile the BL party keeps on going in the parking lot outside the stadium.

There are a few hundred Irmo fans that might offer them a beverage...bring me one while you're at it...something COLD
Posted By: PIZZA_PIZZA Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/22/10 08:37 PM
Action underway as SA earns an early free kick 1 minute in. Mann clears comfortably.

JL Mann is certainly a physically imposing side. HUGE

Clubbers from Mann have really controlled this match...looks to be upperstate's year.

Stranger things have happen though... BE doesn't have a state champion this year for instance.
Posted By: PIZZA_PIZZA Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/22/10 08:59 PM
22 minutes in and Mann has a set piece in a dangerous area...

SA clears poorly and Mann sends in another cross...BACK SAVE SA!

Corner now for Mann

Quote:

To be honest , congrats to BL but Emerald was the only team that could have kept Bishop England game close this year. And I'm not sure how close it would be but I promise you it wouldn't be 7-0. That's my prediction for saturday.
Emerald had a senior bunch who had played in three state Championship games the last three years. And yea BE won all three games 1-0 ans 4-0. And I'm not saying they could beat BE but they would have kept it closer than whats going to happen saturday, Hopefully I'm wrong but I doubt it.
Don't get me wrong Emerald laid an egg in play offs but they were the best 2A upstate team this year. They beat BL twice this year and controlled both of those games.
Good Luck to BL because they will need it. It could really get ugly!!!

stole this from another thread...enjoy

Well well well the stadium is getting PACKED right now

Irmo comes in the favorite and Northwestern finds themselves in unfamiliar territory as the underdog...
Posted By: PIZZA_PIZZA Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/22/10 10:50 PM
NW came out to some confetti from their fan who have donned 6 or 7 national flags...awesome stuff!!

Meanwhile, Irmo's look is all business. Their Jamaican flags are flyings and they have this look about them....hunger, retribution, something is different.

It's going to be a WAR

enzo gets a hat trick this year.

before anyone freaks out... i know he doesn't play for nw anymore, it just doesn't seem like its state championship time with out mentioning his name.

personally i wish both teams could lose, so i just wanna see (read as: wanna read posts about) a good, physical, intense game. i think irmo might be the better team and wouldnt be shocked to see 3-1 in favor of the jackets. but thats why they play the game.

i cant be in the palmetto state for this one, so please keep the posts coming.

1 Minute in and we are off and on it. Padula with a long SLING in the box but nw defends well almost playing it like a corner.

Irmo looks to be better prepared for this match! Early play has seen them to be the better of the two side but you can never count out NW

Flags? Don't care much for the international flag stuff. There's only one flag, the American one, that is really important for flying here.

complaining about the flags? Really? Just reporting the atmosphere.

First shot and Garbanzo going for the theatrical...an almost overhead kick but the power was off and the keeper handled comfortably.

Garbanzo again and he hits the post!!! WOWW best chance of the match.

30 minutes played and we have controversy as Garbanzo is called for offsides as he puts the ball in the net...

Still 0's!

Alex has been a one man show in the middle...Lunceford came out pretty aggressively but hasn't been seen often since...

NW's D has played better than I expected...highly organized tonight and they look well prepared.

Irmo looks dangerous on every set piece however and it seems to be a matter of time before this deadlock is broken

Firt half comes to a close

0-0

I'll say that the match from a beautiful game standpoint hasn't been much of that. Both teams seem to be on pins and needles, playing conservatively out of the back and instead lumping the ball forward and playing off that.

Good strategy.

Hate to interrupt your thread in the middle of the game. But I wanted to respond to UnitedFan's earlier post about the 2A championship. There are no excuses. BE did not make their shots and BL made theirs when it counted.

Congratulations to BL for a well fought match.

P.S. BE boys did collect a trophy as State Runner up and Lower State Champs ( v Waccamaw). They also collected a trophy at Palmetto Cup. They had a great year even though it didn't end with the championship.
Posted By: PIZZA_PIZZA Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/22/10 11:48 PM
Yes Marta they didn't make their shots when they counted...

all 41 of them...

Marta, I think posting about a good season when you don't play with the same constraints as the public schools you compete against, is like a Bully crowing in the playground. I ask you to simply grow up and let BL have their time in the spotlight.

Back at it here folks in this 4A final...It's a bit tense here at Memorial.

My personal security guard has made quite the assumption

"Irmo had more shots but NW had the better chances"

45th minute and we have a leader! Northwestern! You simply cannot count out quality players like Garbanzo and Dennis. Irmo failed to clear the ball and Garbanzo literally scissored it AGAIN!

Highlights on WLTX for sure!!!!

In recent developments Irmo has woken up and are desperate for an equaliser.

Irmo's coaching staff (10 people or so) need to stay inside their box...

Skye-Arthur Banning, the 4th official, demonstratively not having any of this stuff about being outside your technical area.

Hey ESPN....thanks for REALLY reporting the "atmosphere". NW has done the flag thing at their home games before. It's just as irritating then. It only antagonizes. I didn't notice it this past year, so I thought they may have found their way out of this "class-less" way of cheering on and recognizing their boys. Go USA! While I was thinking of cheering NW on, I hope Irmo takes it to them now.

They think it's all over is a well known quotation popular in England. It is taken from Kenneth Wolstenholme's BBC TV commentary in the closing moments of the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final, where England beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time to win the FIFA World Cup.
Transcribed, the quotation is:
And here comes Hurst! He's got...
(Wolstenholme's attention is diverted by some of the crowd spilling onto the pitch)
Some people are on the pitch! They think it's all over!
(Geoff Hurst scores to put England two goals ahead)
It is now, it's four!

Posted By: Soccer Parent Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/23/10 01:24 AM
Yep ... amazing ... got there with 5 minutes to go in first half and saw 45 minutes of perplexing soccer.

Northwestern basically finished almost everything they tried with some gifted individuals up top. I still wonder why Irmo didn't play another guy back to try and keep those two (Ricky, Dennis) from 1v1 or 1v2 situations ... but I digress.

Irmo played with a lot of heart and controlled the last 25 minutes once down 3-0, but even though they got it to 3-2, they never played particularly smart. Fouls when trying to keep the game moving, long shots instead of building for closer shots. The NW GK didn't have to make a ton of saves - many shots were off the frame. But - still - both teams are to be commended for a HARD-FOUGHT match. And Ricky ... WOW!

Before you read further, let me say this. I was on the Irmo side and didn't hear the NW students. I also don't want to hear that "this happens all over the place and you just need to get over it."

I sat within ear-shod of the Irmo students. Multiple times - at least 10 - they yelled "bullsh*t" in unison to referee calls (or non calls), and when someone went down for NW with an injury, again, in unison "p*ssy." This was VERY audible on the Irmo side and there's no doubt everyone could hear it.

Now, kids will be kids - I get that. They hear it on TV and see it from college BK students and emulate. HOWEVER, this is high school. My disappointment wasn't with the students ... it's with the Irmo parents, administrators, teachers or any of the thousand coaches on the sideline (one of which who played to the students to get them fired up). My sons' principal would have been down there telling them to clean it up on the first BS and if the principal wasn't around, any number of parents would have stopped them. Instead, NOT A SINGLE Irmo parent stepped up to tell them to cheer and cheer loudly, but with class.

Yes, it's easy to show your class or lack thereof when the chips are down. We see it all the time. But this was a learning opportunity for students and not a single adult or ANYONE associated with IHS went over there to tell them to clean it up. SHAME ON YOU, Irmo High School ... you should be embarrassed by your student's actions and by your lack of action. I hope someone else mentions this to the principal because this should not be tolerated. I was going to bring my youngest son to the match but couldn't and I'm glad I didn't. I would have had to have moved.

And, NO, it wasn't MY JOB to tell Irmo students to calm down. There were MANY, MANY teachers and parents around me who could have done it and only stood there ignoring or looking at each other with no intention of doing a thing.

What a shame such a hard-fought match could be marred by actions - or lack thereof. And if this was for another forum, then so be it. I figured many Irmo parents would be on here later and could comment. I welcome your feedback.

Again, congrats to the Irmo (and NW) players for a great game. All should hold their heads high!
Posted By: Hardtruth Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/23/10 01:39 AM
Agree with Soccer Parent - class-less by Irmo fans. Our HS kids would be suspended from school for yelling things like that in a regular home game. And here is a state championship game....something should be done and something should have been done. This just about trumps that irritating flag thing NW does.
Posted By: Damaris Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/23/10 01:48 AM
Just came back from the game; here are my two cents, take them as you will.

Very, very impressed with a few individual players on both sides. 8 on Irmo played with class, skill and heart the entire game, even when the outcome was obvious--I saw him play in last year's final as well and I'm glad that he was on Irmo tonight; I saw him comfort the Irmo defender who was directly the cause of the third NW goal, and I was glad he represented my former high school. 13 on NW had a great game, I felt he was pretty solid the whole way through, and Ricky and Dennis were amazing as always.

Despite all his hype on here, I was sad to see that Alex wasn't the "heart" of anything. He was sluggish when he wasn't on the ball--I saw at least two incidents where after a NW corner, he remained on the Irmo half even as they launched a counterattack, and his sportsmanship consisted of rolling around on the ground until the whistle was blown or it became apparent the ref was continuing play. Not half the man his brother was, I'm sorry to say. 4 on Irmo seemed to suffer from the same deflation of hype--a solid player, but not particularly special, at least in this game.

Overall, I would say Irmo was the more solid team, controlling the game until the last ten or so minutes, despite not being able to finish. The NW victory was the result of a few astounding players, not the work of a team, and seeing as Irmo has the younger potential (7 uptop was I believe either a pretty small sophomore or a freshmen--either way, he was a doing a lot of work) with more sophomores on field, so I think they're rising. Only time will tell though.

@soccerparent; I won't deny that the Irmo fans were pretty tasteless, but regarding the issue of no one telling them to be quiet--if you were in the stands, I was sitting to the left of the student section with other former students, and we told those kids to shut up/tone it down quite frequently. Now I'm not saying they listened, but we tried to remind them that you can support Irmo without resorting to profanity.
Posted By: Soccer Parent Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/23/10 01:52 AM
Thank you for trying, Mechie15. I commend you on that ... but the responsibility lies with the Irmo administration. You KNOW they were there and decided to do NOTHING. A letter definitely is going out to the principal.

Good review ... exactly how I saw it as well.
Posted By: Damaris Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/23/10 01:58 AM
From what I hear, the entire Irmo administration has basically been fired and will be replaced next year by the new principal's friends...if this was their way of protest, by staying silent as the students trashed the name of Irmo (which is already pretty bad, we don't need more help), then I have to say maybe they deserve to lose their positions. But there could be more to the story I don't know.

NorthWestern's Roster Consists of:
10 Seniors
6 Juniors
6 Sophmores

Irmo's Roster Consists of:
6 Seniors
9 Juniors
8 Sophmores

With Irmo having more youth, I agree that their time will come very soon. And yes, #7 Dunbaker, is a Sophmore.

I also saw #8 for Irmo, B. Padula (SR.) comfort his teammate after the Northwestern goal and that was something you rarely see. Usually you see teammates getting mad with each other or yelling, but this guy does something totally different. He makes sure that his teammate is calm and doesn't beat himself up over it. That was one of the classiest things I have seen a player do in a long time.
Posted By: Leopold.Bloom Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/23/10 03:54 AM
Irmo from top to bottom is a better team and on paper should have won. But NW is a class team and their "superstar", i use that term loosely, players are probably better quality. NW had three amazing goals tonight and probably should have had a couple more beauties. Irmo players showed a lot of determination though coming back and making it 3-2 before Dennis finished it. I dont think Ive ever seen Irmo players work so hard and try to get back into a game, probably because they are rarely in that situation! Congrats and good luck for next year!

Wow Ryan Hurst had a sublime strike for JL Mann to outlast SA. That first goal might have been unfortunate as all the SA players turned off but its not like that goal was against the run of play.

Congrats to BL too. I personally disgraced them earlier this week. I guess I seriously overestimated BE's play and quality. BL was the better team from what I saw and that game winning goal was very well taken.

I saw some great goals today! Definitely worth the price of admission!

Finally BE looses in a state championship about time eh. SA put up a very good fight throughout the entire game which most people counted them out from the very begging of the game. I myself did not see what happened on the first goal, but it looked to me as the center ref had no idea what had just happened either. The second goal Mann scored was just an amazing strike by Hurst. Finally the Irmo vs. NW game. I am glad NW put all the Irmo fans in there place by showing what their striking prowess can do to a sloppy D. I do give props to Irmo for putting up a fight and making it a game with there first goal and making NW score an own goal from a low driven cross my Acree. In the end though NW just had to much firepower for a lackluster Irmo Defense tonight. Congrats to all the State Champions and runner ups trust me I know how it feels to lose in the State Championship game just come back even stronger and more resilient to win the whole thing next year!!

With Irmo having more youth, I agree that their time will come very soon. And yes, #7 Dunbaker, is a Sophmore.

He's a very talented kid then, I saw him juke a few people out. I'll try to remember to look at him next season, he certainly seems to be going places.

He's a senior? I was afraid he might be, I remembered him playing in the last years game, and he's a tall kid, so I figured he would be an upperclassmen...it's a pity he won't be around next year, because he's got a very focused, grounded style of defense that is fun to watch.

IIRC, the kid (#19?) didn't start and was sent on that half...being in that position is awful, you can't help but feel the coach has messed up by sending you in, and it's impossible not to blame yourself--I'm willing to admit I've been there before ! It was good to see an older teammate extend a hand and help him...it was even better to see the kid score later and redeem himself.

And yes it was classy...if only our fans had matched most of our players decorum.

I sat on the NW side because I was there to cheer for NW. Sadly, I heard the NW "student section" chant everything you heard from the Irmo fans, and other slurs, many times. Someone with NW should have intervened. These students were a very poor reflection on what I am sure is a fine institution.

I still cannot believe the BL game. I officially think that hell has frozen over. I hope this is a testament to the rise of soccer throughout the state of South Carolina, even in the farm lands of Batesburg. I honestly cannot believe that BL has a state championship in soccer. This is is great and it sounds like the rest of the games were hard fought as well but I have to give kudos to BL.
Was the day not about what the kids on the field were doing and not the fans? Who cares... enjoy the game

SoccerFan1234 ... I meant to mention that in my original post - that I couldn't hear NW students, but if they were doing the same thing, then shame on their administration too. YOU CAN stop this kind of behavior - only if you try. And ignoring it saying "it's just those kids these days" is not the thing to do ... what's wrong with telling a child NO and STOP - it's what's wrong with our society today.

And, yes, I'd love to talk about what's on the pitch only, but this had to be brought up. Period.

Stats on the JL Mann vs SA should be corrected:

Assists 1st goal Benny Puetter 2nd goal Yannick Fischbach

SA should have been beaten much worse than they did. They were outplayed in every aspect of the game. There squad has progressively become worse since '05. They are lucky the got bumped down to 3A after 2008 because thats when they lost the last of any sort of talent that could compete at the 4A level. If the rumors are true about them returning to 4A, they are going get mopped up by whatever region they are in.

yes, we are moving up to 4A by 8 students! That would make us #47 bout of 48.

Why many of you are upset or jealous, remember that the SCHSL sets the classifications not SA.

These boys deserve every accolade that they get. They are very hard working men and a pleasure to coach.

We at SA are about building a program, that everyone respects. Wins and losses are great and disappointing yet our program is essentially about building character. I can tell you my boys have that. They have worked hard over the season to get to that point yesterday. They were co region champions, in the toughtest lower state region. They defended their Lowerstate Championship and were fortunate to come through the bracket vs several quality teams to make it to the finals. So to say that someone else deserved to be there, maybe, but they were not. You have to know we lost 10 seniors, 7 which were starters from last year's squad. Lost 2 more to season ending injuries, so to have been it that game last night showed what this team was made of all year--Heart!!!

We are building our own soccer field on campus( only one is Aiken County),are planning another trip over Spring Break to Italy (we do this every 3 years so that anyone plays for me will have this chance during their HS career). Over 7 years we have seen 31 players head to college by using soccer as a tool. If everything goes right 8 the 10 seniors this year will sign or go JC to further their education.

While all of you are entiled to your own opinion bout my SA team and boys, make sure you make those negative opinions about me and not the players.I assure you that anything negative in the program come s from me and not them. they have done everything I have asked them to do to get us to the state finals. I know that when it comes gametime that they will play hard because I know they have my back as I ALWAYS will have theirs!

I do not ususlly post on here is why I email all my scores in, but to attack my players as many have this week is wrong. All have a Great Day-- God Bless, because he has me to allow me to Coach SOUTH AIKEN

To JL Mann- Congrats. Great team great job.

To "my boys" You did everything I asked through hardwork and dedication, I am very proud to be your coach!

Posted By: rjwjsw Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/24/10 01:07 AM
Wow Coach Waters, That was well said. I think that is what more schools need. Coaches who are about building up there players and helping them get ahead in life. The winning will take care of itself. I have seen several SA games this year and was impressed by the play and the fans. You hang tough in 4A and good luck.
Posted By: Leopold.Bloom Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/24/10 01:08 AM
I agree with Kevin. Not many people, myself included, have given SA the credit they deserve. They have a great program down there in Aiken. Sorry to see them go, I always loved to eat at the Firehouse across the street before the games against the T-Breds. Good luck next year Coach Waters, prove all the doubters wrong in 4A. And is the gifted left-footed player, #11, a senior? And if so is he playing in college, or if not is he planning on it?

u Earmo lovers are unbelievable. Earmo has the better team but nhs has some good individuals, alex just whinned and rolled on the pitch. there aint but one statistic that counts, the SCORE. for the last three years the SCORES were 2-1, 3-1, and 4-2 when it counted. get over it and take off your blinders or your bonde wigs. the king is dead, long live the king, NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL TROJANS. gee, i guess earmo just couldn't shoot straight, or as one poster said just wasnt on their game. i guess that Northwestern's "weak defense" had nothing to do with it. all earmo got was two own goals and and u think they r the better team. what a bunch of whinners! northwestern is the better team, get over it, and THE CAPPER IS, they dont have to explain why their hair loks so good. " we are the champions, we are the champions, no time for earmo cause we are the champions of the STATE."
Posted By: James Gray Re: 2010 State Soccer Championships - 05/24/10 06:59 PM
You know, I have been sitting back this year just reading most of the posts for my amusement. I have noticed a troubling trend as of recent. It is good that NW has won the state championship, but just support your team and don't worry about disparaging remarks about the opposing team. I get so tired of hearing about how everyone hates Irmo. So what if you do, they are an excellent soccer school with a winning tradition. I get the feeling that many NW supporters want to be like Irmo with their winning ways over the past three...yes, three decades. NW is well on their way, but do us all a favor and keep your criticisms to yourself, I just get so tired of hearing about it year after year. I have heard nothing but good things about the NW coach, so why not follow in his foot-steps and bring that good reputation to NW.

For all of the attaboys given to S Aiken, did anyone notice that they only had one shot on goal against Mann? If not for the SA goalie, that game would have been a blowout. Mann's defense hasn't been mentioned on this board but they were awesome

well if you check back on all the threads throughout the year theres another trend irmo lovers talking up how great grand and wonderful they are and hatin on northwestern the only reason your not seein that now is cause they couldnt back up the hype and the trojans shut them up saturday night

Go Mann's defense? happy now...sometimes the understood doesn't need to be mentioned. The Mann's defense was unbeatable, don't know about throughout the whole season but most certainly in that game. But if it makes you feel better, Mann's defense was nearly perfect. Reid Grier in the back was all of the field and basically dominating every aspect of play, along with the other center back. Props to JL Mann's defense and rest of team.

All i know is that girl beasted on those BE forwards. Some were legit fouls that the ref must have over looked due to the fact she was a female.

Mr. Pink, the ref ignored a ton of fouls from both sides in the B-L game. Dee got no special treatment due to the fact that she is female. She is just beast on the pitch, game after game.
