South Carolina 1-0 North Carolina, 15:22'

Ryan Kropp of Northwestern HS opens the scoring for the Sandlappers on an assist from Daniel's Seth Kulasekera in the 15th minute to give South Carolina a 1-0 first half advantage. Kropp turned with the ball at the top of the 18 and shot into the lower right corner of the goal. The Sandlappers are attacking the goal on the scoreboard end of Blackbaud Stadium with the I-526 overpass just behind the tree line.
A half hour has passed and the score remains 1-0 South Carolina.
Thanks for the updates, hope all is well

HALFTIME -- South Carolina 1-0 North Carolina

In the last minute of the half, Kropp and Wando's Will Moore combine for a great give-and-go on the right side of the penalty area and for the second time this half a South Carolina player has been chopped down in the box, but no penalty kick was awarded. Just seconds later at the other end of the field, North Carolina has its best chance of the game on a bang-bang play at the six-yard box that goes just wide.

50' South Carolina 1-0 North Carolina
We have played an hour at Blackbaud Stadium with South Carolina leading 1-0. North Carolina has really picked up the pace this half and have kept the ball in the Sandlappers' final third of the field. Brookland-Cayce's J.C. Gypin made a nice save on a direct kick from Brett King, an All-America selection from Ashley HS.
Another fantastic save for Gypin on a point-blank shot from eight yards out. That's two critical stops for the Sandlappers in the past five minutes.
The Tar Heels break through at the 70:07 mark on a goal by Jonathan Yates of Page HS. Yates knocked in a rebound off a save by Gypin, who deflected the first shot. North Carolina is rewarded for its constant possession this half. Tie match at 1-1.
Wow, that was fast! 59 seconds after North Carolina leveled the match, the Tar Heels take the lead for the first time on a score by Chapel Hill's Tommy Drake. North Carolina now leads 2-1 with less than seven minutes remaining.
South Carolina evens the match at 2-2 on a rocket by Kropp at the 78:25 mark from six yards away. Kropp's been a difference maker on the pitch today for the Sandlappers and most likely wrapped up a MVP honor.
FINAL SCORE -- North Carolina 2-2 South Carolina

I want to thank all of the folks who helped make the inaugural COLUMBIA UNITED FC Clash of the Carolinas a huge success. On the high school side, in SC, special thanks to Dick Smith, Katie Smith, Linda Smith, Kevin & Kyle Heise, David Easley, Troy Bennage, Stephen Jackson, Scott Ruggles (who did the certificates) and William Hosea. At The Battery, Andrew Bell and Amy Plebanek, as well as the entire staff, were tremendous. Thanks to the Hampton Inn, Daniel Island and the Comfort Suites N. Charleston. Also, thanks to Soccer Plus and Tripp Miller for their shirts. Lloyd’s Sports of Mt. Pleasant came through with several last minute tasks for us and Andrew Burr of Select Soccer.
MUSC was terrific in providing trainers. Mark Kadlecik the NC Coordinator and his staff were great. And, of course, thanks to Columbia United FC’s Ron Tryon and Steve Birnie, without whom none of this would have happened.
I also want to thank all the players. You conducted yourselves very well. You all represented your communities and states with class. I am already excited about next year and looking at ways to improve the event.

You all made my job easier! I am sorry if I left anyone out…I assure you it is out of ignorance on my part.

Most Valuable Players
NC - Tommy Drake, Forward, Chapel Hill HS
SC - Ryan Kropp, Forward, Northwestern HS
Kyle,

Thanks for the updates.... Unfortunately I was not able to make the trip but I am glad to see that the game was apparently exciting. Although I am not a big fan of draws, leaving the field even is a great achievement for both teams....

Good Stuff!
