Game of the week. Unranked Clover visits #3 Spartanburg on Tuesday. "Who do you love........?"
1-1 after 2 OT's. Clover wins on PK's.
Spartanburg shouldn't be #3 and Clover shouldn't be unranked. These teams are evenly matched. Spartanburg has benefited the most of any AAAA team from the realignment. Were they still in Region II, they would be unranked.
The following should shed some light on their #3 ranking, the 4-0 loss to Mauldin in pre-season, the loss to Riverside, the loss to Woodruff, and the 2nd Mauldin match that wasn't played on March 22.
This far into the season Spartanburg shouldn't be ranked 3rd in the state after losing 4-0 to a Mauldin team that is SOMEHOW ranked lower than them.
@ Spartanburg
Spartanburg 0
Clover 1
Clover now controls their own destiny......
whats your pick for tomorrow at the Reservation??
"Spartanburg shouldn't be #3 and Clover shouldn't be unranked."
I stand by my previous post.
Don't think this was the game of the week, though.
The game was for first place in the region standings. It involved the #3 team in the state against a very good (apparently under-rated) opponent.
Not too many games this week had more on the line.
Pretty good road win for Clover.
Hurst,
On paper it was a doozy, I'll give you that.
Except for the fact that no one could argue that Spartanburg deserved a #3 ranking unless they had humiliated Clover last night, but they didn't. Spartanburg lost. The loss should rightfully drop Spartanburg from the top 10. The loss should help Clover get ranked in the top 15 again.
The loss actually weakens the region, which in turn makes the game LESS meaningful.
Patriot,
Then again, if you had nice little center midfielder running your show.....you might not be throwing in the towel against Riverside and Mauldin so early in the season?
Need to see refs first. Got to get their early enough to see if they come out of coachs back pocket. And quit printing key chains before the game, irritating
Its is funny how a ref can take you out of your game. Like last night every little bump was called except for one. Yet some games you have to really pound someone. If you are a physical team some refs can really confuse the players mind set by inconsistant calls. As much as the parents moan I really think the girls like the pounding. Keeps them focused. As long as ball is being played and arms by your side let them pound.
After what I saw at the ACC show case last weekend arms at your sides is not so much a concern to the ACC refs. They let them mix it up as long as the grabbing of jerseys was kept to a min, and of course the ball was being played.
