Well done ladies. Here's props to a team that seems to get little respect or notice, but continues to go out and just get the job done. Looking forward to the next rankings update. Good luck with the rest of the season.
Four goals allowed thru 15 games is strong!
Local props for Riverside Girls:
http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/sports/14219025.htm
FM has allowed one goal through 13 games.
Riverside thread - not Fort Mill
Sorry scotland. Please see "Region Finish" thread where I kiss Riverside's @$$.
;>)
I still don't see how they get "no respect". That team is good! Well done to Terry and the ladies.
Hurst, geez man. What's your problem? This is Riverside.
Also, FM has allowed 2 goals (3 if you count PKs)
in 13 games.
Really....not counting OT PK's....who scored?
Fort Mill has only allowed 1 goal during a regulation game. Their defense is awsome! Riverside must also have a great defense.
I've stated on another thread....no one should seriously challenge Riverside for the 3A title this year.
Sorry Hurst I read the schedule results incorrectly.
No problem Strike, I have trouble with OT scores, scrimmage games as well. Tough to decipher.
All the talk about FM scores being "non penalty kicks". Riverside has four goals against them and two of those are PK too. It appears both teams deserve our praise for their excellent defense.
Definantly, both are awsome feats, but i think most of the talk was about FM only allowing three goals, two in PKs and one on a direct kick from the top of the box. So in theory the defense hasn't allowed any goals. Riverside definantly has my respect though, no doubt about that. Awsome team.
What theory about no goals? Keepers are part of the defense, right?
a goal is a goal is a goal, no matter who allows it.
FM has allowed one goal in 15 games.
What exactly is "the defense?"
I like to think all eleven defend on my team.
yeah, but apparently, joe doesn't think so.
joe, we get it. fort mill invented the game. fort mill is the only good team and the goals that they have allowed (1, 2, or 3 - ??) should not be counted, because the other team's forwards were allowed to dribble past the defenders.
give it a rest.
hurst, what were the ages of the cesa cap team that newberry played against?
Exactly, defenders are a postion, defense is anytime the other team has the ball. I was trying to give our defenders some congrats, but as soon as i did, everyone and their brother analyzed this thing to death. Oh well, i guess it only matters in the end right.
anonymousjoe: I'm sorry if my question got in your way. I'm definitely not a soccer expert, but over the years I've seen quite a few games. As I'm sure you have, I've seen teams have roughly a gazillion shots on goal and not score, I've seen teams have one shot on goal and score, I've seen teams that rarely allowed the other team on their side of the field, I've seen teams that kept other teams from scoring despite their playing continuously defensively on their 1/3 of the field, and so on.
What I haven't seen is a soccer team in which "the defense" operates independently of the rest of the team. I'm not even sure what "the defense" is it seems to be often discussed. For example, I've seen forwards have an amazing impact defensively through pressure. Heck -- if you can only have one number, it seems that goal differential is a better measure of the quality of "the defense."
I have not a clue how "good" FM's defense is -- although I'm sure it's wonderful -- or Riverside's defense [although I know that Sarah Delap is an absolutely awesome keeper] -- but if you want to make a case on paper that a defense is outstanding, it seems to me that you're going to need a few more statistics than goals scored.
Lies make baby Jesus cry, Joe.
Rick,
Blakely Mattern and Shannon Bigbie, both seniors and USC recruits, were out there. You'll have to check with Pearse or Andrew regarding the rest of the team....I'm not sure.
Yep, complete lier, thats me.

CESA Cap pools are on the CESA web page. Each match has a slightly different team from that pool. Often, the largest percentage tends to be players from the CESA U17 Girls Premier team from this most recent season. The Newberry match had that central make up but included several age groups and levels of players, including non-CESA players. If that helps.

pretty ricky/Hurt66: The players that are selected to the pool and then attend are pretty flexible out of a large pool of kids so I don't know if you're ever going to get a complete list unless someone there wrote it down. Of the original pool selected for Newberry [which always seems to change just before a scrimmage], there were U16, U17, and U18 players from CESA premier and challenge and of course from other clubs as well.

I think there should be some way to get these teams together and have them play each other. Determine who the #1 in the nation really is. What would it take for that to happen? I know a lot but im just curious.
I think our efforts would be better spent working on time travel.
Congratulations Mauldin:

Neither team was ranked in the Top 20 for the final poll. Here was the final Region III poll (brings back memories, doesn't it....)
