GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone College Director of Athletics Mike Cerino announced today that Matt Smith has been named Head Women’s Soccer Coach. Smith comes to Limestone from Presbyterian College where he has served as an assistant coach since 2005.

“Coach Smith is a bright young soccer coach and very well respected in the southeast region,” commented Cerino. “We look forward to him leading our women’s soccer program.”

Smith assisted with all aspects of the Blue Hose program during his four years at Presbyterian. He also has extensive coaching experience with the South Carolina Olympic Development Program and the Columbia United Football Club.

Smith is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and holds a NSCAA National Diploma and a NSCAA Goalkeeping Diploma.

Smith played college ball at Trevecca Nazarene University in Tennessee where he earned TransSouth Conference All-Freshman honors. Smith helped his Irmo High School squad win the state title during his prep career. He was also a member of the Nashville Metros of the Professional Development League and was part of the 2003 squad that posted an 18-11 record and finished third in its division.

A native of Columbia, S.C., he holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in history.
