I have seen where players play both JV and Varsity during a season (not the same day) or JV players are brought up at end of the JV season. Is there a SCHSL rule that states how many games a player can be in during a season? I looked in handbooks but did not see anything related to this and figured with all the coaches and other sc soccer knowledgeable folks, someone would know.

Thanks in advance!

Marcus! Seriously! Give us a break.

To answer the question...Players can go up and down as many times as they want until they reach the maximum number of regular season games allowed. Once a player hits 14 games he can't play regular season JV any more. Once a player hits 16 games, he can't play anymore regular season varsity games. Of course there are limitations on whether a junior can play JV, depending on the region.

Correct--unless the varsity team has chosen to trade in a tournament for two extra regular-season games. In that case the player can play a maximum of 18 games in any combination of JV/Varsity. (14 JV and 4 varsity, 8 JV and 10 varsity, etc.) In any case the TOTAL number of games a player can participate in can't exceed the total number of allowed varsity team matches.

Thanks for the clarification and quick response from both! Always curious about how that worked. I think Marcus is bumping his post count

Does dressing out and being on the bench count as one participation or does the player actually have to enter the game? I assume preseason scrimmage games do not count?

Preseason does not count for that total. If a player is in uniform and in the team bench area, he is considered to have played whether he actually enters the field or not.
