Just taking a poll (Keeper's Only): "Would you be interested in participating in a Keeper War Tournament?"

If so, "What format [12th & 11th, 10th & 9th grades] or [U18, U17, U16, & U15]?"

Example, see: http://nc-soccer.net/forum/attachments/651.pdf [Big Grin]

The main problem with a keeper war tourney is that it would be hard to hold a state wide thing b/c most keepers aren't gonna be willing to drive a long way just to play keeper wars. Best place to hold it would probably be Columbia, because its in the middle of the state and I know I'm not gonna drive 2 hours just to play keeper wars. Unless there is some big cash prize to actually attract keepers from all over the state, this isn't gonna happen or would just be more of a regional thing where the only keepers that show are from the area where the tourney is being held.

I agree, Columbia would be the best place (or Charleston Battery, maybe pregame or even a Clemson pregame) just some ideas (btw I'm in Charleston). I'd think you'd want to have a large enough draw (16 per age) to support say a guarantee of four brackets (4 per), brackets play round robin to 10pts, followed by semifinals and finals. Also holding sidebar competitions such as Longest Goal Kick, Punt and Slinging(subtract for inaccuracy, best of three) might be interesting. Incentives could be monetary ($20 entry fee with winner take all [Eek!] , or Battery Tickets ...), recognition at the game [Razz] or a trophy but at this age [Embarrassed] ???

Any other ideas? Thanks

There is already a highly organized Goalie War Association which holds regional, national and international tournaments. Check them out at www.goaliewar.com

A good friend of mine won the National Championship about 3 years ago in the men's open division. He took home $25K and got to represent the US at the international tournament.

Jason, NGWA looks good, it would be great to have an event here in SC if someone would host. In your circles, has anyone in SC mentioned sponsoring such an event, or, do you have any thoughts on who might sponsor one?

I think a Goalie Wart would be insane. It would be a way to test our skills and a way to show off. I mean if someone sponsored one i think i would most definatly sign up. At least if it was a high school one.

I think it would be awesome to have an NGWA tourney here! I think it would be something that one of the bigger clubs (CESA, perhaps) or someone like Mt. Pleasant Rec. to get involved to get the field space and facilities needed to host this kind if event.
