It's official -- SYSC closed on the purchase of 107 acres of land. The engineering design work is complete and the grading permits obtained. The first phase of construction will include 6 lighted fields. The long range plans include a total of 13 fields and an indoor facility. The first fields should be in use by Mid 2006.

This is great news for the youth of Spartanburg County. The County has a limited number of soccer fields and NO lighted facilities! The location of the fields (just off I85) might provide Greenville players with another option.

I agree. This sounds like a great opportunity for Spartanburg as well as the state. It definitely will give the unhappy CESA players another option. Thanks for your post.

What club or clubs will be using the fields?

Spartanburg Youth Soccer Club will be using the fields.

It is about time! It is hard to believe how far behind G-vegas we were with regard to fields and lights!

Are a lot of CESA players unhappy with the merger?

I have heard of numerous CESA players ages U-15 and up, boys and girls, who were very unhappy with CESA and were looking for another club.

Where did you hear that? Are you one of them? Must be those who do not play on the premier teams. They won every age group boys and girls and all will be going to regionals in Texas.
