Major knee injury for West Florence at short Sunday afternoon practice. Lady Knights will be without one of their big guns vs Dutch Fork tonight.

1st round looks to be pretty uneventful other than Hanna/Dorman, Clover/Hillcrest and possibly Mann/Wren. I would love to see Steve Lea's squad put a scare in Wando, but man they are tough.

Pretty good prediction accuracy for the 1st round, MyTwoCents2008. Think you can do as well in the second round where it gets a lot more competitive? Here are the matchups (hosts listed first):

TL Hanna (7) vs. Spartanburg (10)
Mauldin (3) vs. Blythewood (8)
Clover (6) vs. JL Mann (11)
Irmo (5) vs. Riverside (4)
Lexington (2) vs. West Ashley (12)
James Island (NR) vs. South Aiken (NR)
Wando (1) vs. White Knoll (13)
Aiken (NR) vs. Dutch Fork (NR)

Interesting that two unranked teams will definitely advance to the third round by beating unranked teams while six ranked teams will definitely be eliminated in the second. Another argument for a seeding system like the one used for AA/A?

Do they seed for the playoff or do they seed the teams once they get in. Seems like seeding the teams once they get in makes sense but if you want to determine who gets in then it gets very hard sense some teams rankings are questionable sometimes.

Who would you suggest set the seeds to keep them "fair and unbiased"?

If it is done like the AA then you don't do it by computer ranking but by convening a committee of coaches to seed the tournament. I hear it is great fun.

Here is a suggestion. Add a week to the playoffs, and let everyone in. Soccer is a "contact" sport according to the SCHSL (basketball is not), so why does soccer play 3 games in a week. Play for 3 weeks, give the top 16 teams a first round bye. SCHSL makes money on gate. Reseed upperstate and lower state by voting (yes coaches get together and vote). Seeds get to place themselves in order by seed wherever they want. Home team is on top line (even if there is an upset). When you get down to 4 teams. They play at neutral sites. State final rotates between coast, midlands and upperstate. It works very well in other states and since the SCHSL can't figure out 6 teams in each region it eliminates a 3 seed from going to wando in the first round instead of playing a 2 seed.

I'd suggest using the Massey ratings.
