The 2016 Regions Border Classic dates are Thursday March 17 - Saturday March 19, 2016. Our goal for future years is to always begin our annual soccer invitational on the 3rd Thursday of March for the following reasons:
1. The 3rd Thursday of March Weekend allows teams from East Tennessee to participate (they can’t play until after mid-March);
2. The 3rd Thursday of March Weekend avoids “Private School Spring Break” in Atlanta and Charlotte (1st and 2nd weekends of March), as well as the Atlanta Metro Area Spring Break (1st and 2nd weekends of April), Columbia, SC Area Spring Break (March 28-April 1, 2016), and Charleston, SC Area Spring Break (last week of March).
3. The 3rd Thursday of March Weekend avoids Prom Weekend for the big 6A GHSA schools in Cobb County, i.e. Walton and Harrison (1st weekend of March this year)
4. The 3rd Thursday of March Weekend allows basketball athletes to complete their season and still have an opportunity to train for soccer in time for the tournament (a big concern at smaller schools).
5. Weather in late March is typically a lot nicer than weather in early March. Two extra weeks at this time of year can make a big difference in Augusta.
The format will be the same as the 2015 tournament with roughly half of the 28 teams from various parts of Georgia and the other half from South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. For additional details you can visit our website at
