From Sunday's paper: quote: New Wando coach Tisdale no stranger to area soccer
BY PHILIP M. BOWMAN The Post and Courier
Shilo Tisdale has been named the boys' soccer coach at Wando High School.
"I look forward to working with the Mount Pleasant community, the parents and the kids," said the 29-year-old Tisdale, who becomes the third coach in the history of the program. "It's been a consistent program, but it has been a few years since we've won the state championship. That's our goal. That's the ultimate goal." Tisdale is young, but still has an impressive soccer resume. He played for the Hanahan Hawks and led the team to four appearances in the Lower State championship.
He was a four-year starter at The Citadel and earned all-conference honors. He graduated from The Citadel in 1999 and played one year professionally in the Jamaican Premier League.
He restarted the North Charleston High soccer program in 2004, and followed that by serving as the Wando junior varsity coach last year.
He inherits a program that is one of the strongest in the state.
Tom Reilly started the soccer program at Wando and spent 23 seasons as a coach, leading the Warriors to four state titles. He compiled a 407-82-16 record. His replacement, C.J. Rozzi, coached three years, compiling a 67-8-3 record. Rozzi resigned to spend more time with his family.
Wando athletic director Bob Hayes said 18 people applied for the job and four were interviewed. Hayes was impressed with Tisdale's enthusiasm and soccer knowledge.
"He was born and raised in this area, and he wants to be here," Hayes said. "He's a good fit for the program and community."
"I'm excited about the opportunity," Tisdale said. "I'm young, I'm motivated and I want to be here a long time.
"I'm always looking for a challenge. That's why I went to The Citadel. This is the perfect opportunity, the perfect challenge."

McClendon was the Greenwood coach. He is moving to Columbia. John Kinard is the new coach.
