This season is nearly 1/3 finished. Who are the early season favorites for region champions?
1-Mauldin is still Mauldin 2-Spartanburg, but Dorman might come knocking 3-Spring Valley only because they're ranked higher than Ridge View 4-South Aiken, no competition
I'll leave the lower state to others with more insight.

Interesting comment about South Aiken. Are they really that good or is everyone else in their region that bad??

I believe the former, but I may be forced to eat my words when it is all said and done.

My picks:
Region 7
Toss up between (listed alphabetically) James Island, Wando, West Ashley. Region play starts next week so we'll have a better idea soon as to who has the edge.
Region 8
Based on having seen some R8 play against WA and JI, I would list top three as Hilton Head, Summerville, and Colleton County in that order.

lapf, I haven't seen Colleton County, but feel Ft. Dorchester can't be counted out in R8. Agree Hilton Head and Summerville will probably end up in the top 2, but the 3rd spot will be a battle.

2004 --
I missed WA's game with Fort D last night in order to watch JI play. I thought Fort D played credibly against WA two weeks ago, but that was with WA playing down a player most of the game.
R!C --
Isn't Fort Mill still the highest ranked team in Region 3? How long 'til the lady Yellow Jackets crack the top 15? Enquiring minds want to know...

My friend, you set a trap for me with this question, but I am nimble enough to avoid.
T.L. Hanna has yet to defeat a quality opponent, therefore remains firmly planted in the "other" category. Now, after a positive showing against Greenwood and Hillcrest I might sing a different tune. Until those match ups, we'll comfortably avoid the Heise Radar.

Whoa Nelly!!!! Looking at that Greenwood score, I'd say it'll be another year before Hanna even thinks about being ranked. Never seen them play, but a 4-0 loss won't bode well with the pollsters.

You're exactly right. No team that has lost a match 4-0 has ever been ranked. Just one of those facts of life I guess. I believe this is known as the "4-0 Factor". If you look hard enough, you will see its on page 32, paragraph 7, line 3 of the South Carolina High School League Bylaws.
"Losing a match 4-0 in a season automatically disqualifies a team from being ranked within the state."
Thank you for posting.

Brookland-Cayce, Waccamaw, and A.C. Flora should thank there lucky stars that they didn't allow another goal in. I'd hate for them to fall prey to the afore mentioned rule.
Oh, and this morning I thought about being ranked so I guess that puts holes in your "...another year" hypothesis.
