It will come to pass. As is turns out I was right about S.A. winning the region...but a little off about the competition. Looks like Lexington isn't as bad as you Lou Holtzes are describing. The ooooooold poor mouth technique. Classic. Well, T.L. Hanna hasn't beaten a ranked team this year nor is used to the competition Lexington plays. Should be a blow out. Where any of you two coaches around for their last match?

Actually, I never disputed that SA would win the region. My point was that they were not deserving of such a high ranking in the polls because I didn't think they were all that, and the fact that they could be beat by Lexington, who has no offense, proved that. I just thought that their region was VERY weak compared to what it looks like some of the other regions have, especially the Wando, JI, WA region. I think the only "real" team in the upstate is Mauldin. Lexington "could" have been a better team this year, but that was the coaches choice......let him live with that decision. Sorry I didn't get to see the last match with Aiken, but it sounds like it was a typical Lexington game, probably good defense and good goal play, but no offense..

NO! NO! NO! Lexington plays matador defense. Then they leave the goalie all alone. She's just a scaredy-cat freshman - cringing and sweating. And then guess what, as SAHS fan pointed out, Lexington just somehow lucks out! The other team's offense somehow, miraculously misses the goal. It must be the trembling goalie that makes them laugh!

Though I haven't followed Region 4 closely, I have a hard time letting your above quote float by without at least asking you to amplify a bit. Are players being played out of postition or the wrong folks riding the bench? Or maybe an offense not designed around the available talent? The extra period "but no offense.." at the end of your post makes me wonder if that's the problem.
Region 7 (JI, Wando, WA) is a whole lot of fun to watch and you sure get your $4 worth at the games. These three teams are remarkable even this year. Whoever claws their way through the Region 7 and then lowerstate playoffs will certainly have been battle tested.
Thanks for any input.

People,
You may not want to over look Dorman. We played them in a spring break tourney and they where a very good team. Number 23 and 18 where top notch players.

Deahler--you're confusing an old man.
ExLexFan--I'm intrigued by the name and the attitude. Not entirely negative, but oppositional. I won't ask your connection to the team, but I will ask what are they doing so wrong up there that allows them to beat South Aiken and get a runner-up in the region?

lpaf - Sorry, I'm not going to "amplify a bit" on my statement above, but trust me, they could have been a whole lot better on offense. They now just have to work with what they have....
Enriqua - Beating SA should be no claim to fame. They are ok, but that region really is pretty sad when it comes to good girls soccer teams. Mauldin will more that likely have a cake walk to the finals. Maybe Dorman can give them a run for the money, but I haven't seen Dorman play.
deahler - GOOD STUFF!!
p.s. lpaf - I was waiting for that (your p.s.).

Regarding Region 7-4A, I have been impressed with the crowds at the rivalry games involving Wando, WA, and JI. It is not just parents and the boys' teams in the stands. I have seen plenty of students as well as adult fans of the game. If someone in the know could tell us how much more money the schools see on these games, I would be interested.

I can understand your hesitancy to post more specifics on how they could have been better (I think you have the lowest member # of anyone with a last name other than Heise). How about another approach. Looking at the top three Region 4 teams what are their strengths and styles of play?

ps: Sorry for the cheapshot on your screen name. I couldn't resist and when you have a a moniker like mine you have to look for odd names here and there.
pps: Where do the boys from the Aiken Fire club team play HS soccer?
