Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

that is so irrelevent to fans. a players mind should be focused on the game not the fans. if the fans really affect a players game, then the player should not be on the field.

Fans attend games because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you will have no one at your games.

Players shouldn't react to the fans, but at times they can affect a player's game. It happens in sports at all levels and fans really have an impact on the game. Fans can get into the heads of opponents but what it really does is somewhat movivate the home team or encourages them when people show up to support them. On that matter, I just wish that more people would come out to these games whether it be for the entertainment or the social factor. The students playing on the team are representing their school, it would be nice if the school showed up to represent them. Just my 2 cents.

For example the Wando- B.E. game where a player was thrown out of the game because the fans got into his head... Having fans at games is the best thing and Wando has the best fan base in the state...

Playing against Wando last year, I actually watched a goal sail into the net while my keeper was trying to calm down one of my defenders, who had gotten frustrated and yelled something back at the Wando fans hanging on the fence. Talk about letting someone get inside your head; they both felt really stupid afterward. Fans can indeed have an effect on the outcome of the game. It's the players' responsibility to keep their heads in the game and ignore the fans; still, I say it's great to come out and cheer your players, but I think it's in poor taste for fans to jeer opposing players on the field. That said, I think Wando is one of the most sportsmanlike of the "big-soccer" schools we visit; overall, they are a class act, and I've never left Wando's stadium with a bad taste in my mouth, no matter what the score.

im a wando fan. and we really are the best. it just sucks bc our football team hasn't ever even appeared in a state championship and yet the get 5 to 8 thousand ppl every game. but they most wando soccer has ever gotten is 800. even away games we get at least 50 students (plus all of the parents) to go to. we love to get inside the heads of players, for example against BE (where we brought about 200 fans) we got a key player from BE to get red carded only 15 mins into the game...but we still found a way to lose. haha. so far this season, the game has been stopped at least 7 times(if not more) just so the refs could try to calm us down.

And you're actually proud of the fact that the game was interrupted 7 times because of behavior the officials found unacceptable, and you harassed a player to the point of being red-carded? This is not the kind of sportsmanship I was just complimenting Wando on. Cheer your team, show your support, but let the game be decided on the field, as it should be. Support is something to be proud of...disruption is not.

My only comment on this is the fact that I never see other HS sports interrupted by officials because they feel that they are being attacked or such, but this seems routine in soccer and not just at the high school level. It seems HS officials have a much thinner skin than their basketball, baseball, and football brethren.

When i played i was heckled by some fans, and only once did i let it get to me. But dat's just part of the game in my opinion. The ref shouldnt have to stop the game bcuz of the fans. The only thing that i dont like sometimes is the racial slurs that some fans do. But lately, that has dramatically changed. The typical heckling shouldnt be a problem, especially in a home field. That's part of home field advantage. N the players have to be a ble to completely block fans out.

sportsmanship? look im proud to be a Wando fan. we show great support. the refs shouldnt even be worried about the fans and just focus on the games. same goes for the opposing players. its just part of the game.

You all are saying how you wished people would come and support soccer (and i do too, i love it when there is a good crowd) but how many of you have ever gone to a tennis match, volleyball game, a swim meet, a golf match, a softball game... those players are working just as hard as everyone eles and representing their school just as much as anyone eles and they dont get any credit or student fan support!

To play the game is good, to win the game is great, to LOVE the game is the greatest!
