Formerly known as the Director's Cup, the award is named after John Carlisle, the S.C. Athletic Administrators Association’s Executive Director Emeritus. It honors him for his contributions to forming and developing the organization.

The SCAAA uses a point system which awards points to schools based on their finish in 22 boys’ and girls’ S.C. High School League sports. The rankings determine the top S.C. High School League athletics programs.

This is my understanding from years' past:

Sports: Presently 22 activities (sports) will count in the standings each year.

Female
1. Volleyball
2. Cross Country
3. Tennis
4. Swim
5. Golf
6. Cheer
7. Basketball
8. Softball
9. Soccer
10. Track
11. Lacrosse

Male
1. Football
2. Cross Country
3. Swim
4. Basketball
5. Wrestling
6. Baseball
7. Soccer
8. Tennis
9. Golf
10. Track
11. Lacrosse

Points: Only the positions earned at the SCHSL State Championships shall be used to determine points in the Directors Cup standings.
