SC Soccer
The 2012 Clash of the Carolinas will be held Saturday, July 7 at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island, S.C.

The Clash of the Carolinas is the nation's only interstate all-star game and pits the top graduated seniors from North Carolina versus their South Carolina counterparts.

The Charleston Battery will host the Charlotte Eagles in a USL-Pro match Friday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m.

More information will be posted in this thread and available at the Clash of the Carolinas website.
I still say that if we want to make this the ultimate showcase event that it is, we should make it the best 18 field players and 2 GKers regardless of year in school and suggest that NC do the same. If the SCHSL rules prohibit freshman, sophs and juniors from participating in all-star games, perhaps we should propose a rule change.

This would also help increase the prestige of the North/South game.
Totally disagree. I've never heard of an all-star game, in any state, that involved anyone but seniors.

It's a National Federation rule. If you can't influence the "white uniform" rule, how far do you think you would get with this proposal?
It's the best of each year's graduating class, and an honor for players who finish their careers strong...I don't think we'd like to see the same players going 2-3 years in a row. Each senior season's top picks get their shot.

If a player is Clash material his/her sophomore or junior hear, then he/she should maintain that elite status through the end of the high school career and be a good choice as a senior...if he/she doesn't finish strong, then what are we rewarding?

And if a school isn't represented in a given year just because their top players don't happen to be seniors, that's ok...the all-star games should be a showcase for consistently strong players, not a representation of the overall strength of a school's program.

Just one guy's opinion.
Could someone explain the logic of the process for selecting the all stars for the Clash. A few things I do not understand.
1. The season is just over half over and all stars are being picked. It seems a bit premature.
2. Meeting for choosing the clash roster was last Weekend and players are being contacted, yet the all star list of potential clash players is still being updated.
3. Is there a limit as to how many players can be offered a spot from a particular school for the Clash or the North/South?
Perhaps i can help shed some light on your questions.

1. It is half way through the season. Player trends are being developed. Since only seniors are able to participate, the committee has three other years worth of evidence. Also, players have to be contacted and they have about a week to respond. If they have a conflict, then the first alternate must be contacted. All of that has to be done for The Clash before you can select North/South. Then, the whole process has to be done for North/South.

2. The list is being updated b/c coaches can still nominate players for North/South. The nomination form is the same.

3. Schools are only permitted 2 representatives per game.

Hope that helps!
The Clash of the Carolinas S.C. rosters are being confirmed by SCACA at this time. We've been asked to not release the rosters until all schools have been properly contacted by SCACA for payment purposes.

The official release date will be Tuesday, April 17. Please respect the process. Thank you.
Does the coach also get notified if his are her player gets selected? Wondering what if a player doesnt get the notification in time if their only notification is by email for what ever reason....
All selected players have been notified and confirmed. Waiting on SCACA to run their process for final approval.
Players and coaches were sent notification of their selection this morning by email. If you are unsure about your selection please contact YOUR COACH directly. The rosters will be made public soon. Congratulations!

Dear Soccer Player,

It is my pleasure to inform you of your selection to play in the 2012 SC UNITED FC Clash of the Carolinas. I am honored to be SC Coordinator of this event and honored to confirm your selection.

We hope that you are honored to have been chosen to represent your school, community and family and that you will take this opportunity to represent them to the best of your ability.

Make plans now. The games will be held July 7th at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island, SC. Your participation will be without cost to you. However your family and friends will need to make arrangements for lodging, etc.

Our headquarters is at The Hampton Inn, Daniel Island. Please make reservations early. Be sure to mention that you are with the Clash. If you make reservations on-line use code CPR. Please visit our website at http://www.clashofthecarolinas.com/ often as it is being updated on a regular basis. The 2011 information still available on the site can serve as general information for you at this time. Of particular note are the deadlines for player profiles and for inclusion in the official game program.

We encourage you all to place your own special ad in the program as a keepsake. There will be a $25 fee for the banquet for family and friends only. We also require each family to purchase 5 game tickets through the Charleston Battery. Please tell them you are ordering Clash tickets. These tickets will be good for our games on Saturday and the Battery vs. Charlotte Eagles on Friday night.

Our guidelines and rules are very strict as we represent the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association. Your failure to abide by any of the rules posted at our web site could mean your immediate removal from our events. You MUST participate in ALL of our events. Your acceptance of this honor indicates your willingness to abide by all rules and schedules. If you have questions, please email me at hhsocr@hargray.com.

Lastly, I encourage you to prepare yourself physically for the event. Remember, you are representing the entire state against NC. Stay in training and arrive fit enough for a full match in July heat and let’s beat NC!

Again, congratulations on a well-deserved honor and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Sincerely,

Wayne H. Quinlan

From my understanding (talking with the player), I believe Logan Vitale scored the 2nd goal for NC in today's game, not Hannah Robinson.
Which SC defender scored the own goal for NC and what where the circumstances?

Good for Logan! She had many good years at South Charlotte SA, Charlotte Soccer Academy and Providence HS. Nice to see her go out in style.

Emily Graves was attempting to clear a second shot off the line after a brilliant first shot save by goalkeeper Emily Gossen. Regrets that I can't recall the North Carolina player with the shots. Kyle may be able to fill-in when he gets back online, as he has the scoresheet.

Her distance from the ball and angle of approach were just too great to overcome, and the ball went into the inside side netting instead. It was a great effort, but it looked as though the Tar Heels were going to score off of the exchange regardless. It would have been a spectacular clearance had it been successful.

We in the press box initially credited Vitale, but Coach Katie Smith received a phone call from the field that Robinson was in fact who put it in. Hence the credit given in the box score.

I watched the video highlights and it is definitely Logan that scored, just an FYI.

Very proud of her and glad she got to go. She deserved it after the great year she had for us.

Tar Heels sweep Sandlappers in Clash of the Carolinas
Kevin Bilodeau, WCSC-TV Channel 5 (Charleston, SC)
After reviewing the video replay provided by WCSC-TV, the official box score has credited Kylie Tawney with North Carolina's first goal at the 48' mark and also changed the goal scorer to Logan Vitale in the 78th minute.

Though the video is not conclusive as to who the actual goal scorer is on the first Tar Heels goal, we would rather credit an offensive player for the score and it certainly looks like a 50/50 challenge.

Congratulations to the Tar Heels on the sweep!

I want to thank everyone involved with the 'Clash' for the outstanding job you all did this weekend. This was our first year having seniors at Hough and to have 4 players there was a huge honor for the kids and our school. The way the kids were treated throughout the event is first class and both NC and SC coaching organizations should be commended. I hope we will have players involved for many years to come. Thank you again.
