Kevin, I think my GoalKeeper Taete McMurry should of made it. He had over 165 saves to date and we still got another game left. Not to mention that he is #1 in South Carolina in terms of goal saves and top 10 in the nation. Just my thoughts.

MEDIA RELEASE

The 2018 North-South Soccer Classic, hosted by the South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association, will be held at T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, S.C., on Saturday, June 23.

This is the second consecutive year that the "Electric City" has been the site of this event at Memorial Stadium's Fraser Field on the campus of T.L. Hanna High School and the third time overall (2007). The North-South Soccer Classic was founded in 1989 and has been staged every Summer since then for the boys' all-star game while the girls' contest has been played annually since its inception in 1997.

Admission is $10 at the gate and souvenir programs will be available for $5. Players will report on Friday, June 22 for an action-packed day that features a luncheon sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, team and individual pictures being taken at the field, a practice session for each team and, finally, a banquet that evening honoring the eight coaches and 72 graduated senior players.

In the boys' series, the North leads the South 15-10-4, but the South has captured five of the past eight meetings which includes a pair of draws. The South tallied a 3-2 victory last year in Anderson. In the girls' series, the South holds a slim one-match advantage at 9-8-4 and has won three of the past seven contests with three of those results ending in a tie, including last year's 1-1 draw.

SCHSSCA Members -

This won't be a popular post, but it's something that needs to be said and read by the membership of the South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association.

A great group of volunteers work extremely hard every year to recognize graduated seniors with the two All-Star matches, the North-South Soccer Classic and the Clash of the Carolinas.

Being Summer events, there are naturally some obstacles such as vacations, trips, camps, jobs, early collegiate enrollees, etc., that have been planned in advance of the SCHSSCA selection meetings during the Spring. However, many of you know that part of our professional commitment to our organizations, SCHSSCA and SCACA, is to ensure that selected players and coaches can participate in these respective games.

Sadly, that has not happened in 2018 and a bevy of last-minute dropouts and replacements has taken place this week. In all, there are only 108 graduated seniors that can be honored between the two events (72 @ NSSC and 36 @ Clash). Since Wednesday, June 21, there have been six players that have vacated their positions in the North-South Soccer Classic: two on WED and four on FRI. That is unacceptable!

One player opted to play in Club Regionals at Greensboro, N.C. Another chose to train with the Charleston Battery. Unfortunately another player picked up an injury by stepping on a nail but didn't report the injury to his NSSC coach until Wednesday. Lastly, three players have provided no reason for their absence in Anderson, S.C.

Fortunately, three players have filled those vacated spots, but that means three others have cheated this opportunity from others. To me, that is plain selfishness! If, in the future, you as a coach have any trepidation of nominating a player then don't do it. We go through this ordeal annually, but it really needs to stop. It's not only rude to dishonor an initial commitment but just gives this generation of young adults an excuse that it is permissible to believe the world revolves around them.

This is not intended as a rip-fest, but something has to be addressed and it's going to take our entire Association to hold each of us accountable for our duties as coaches of these young people. And, there should be no need - except for something out of the ordinary - to chase down players at the last minute to fill spots.

Please post any replies to this message in this thread. Hopefully, we as the SCHSSCA, can remedy this situation in the future and continue to honor outstanding student-athletes through these All-Star events.

South Rises Again, Sweeps North in Annual North-South Soccer Classic

ANDERSON, S.C. – In the first series sweep by either side since 2014, the South prevailed in the girls and boys matches, 1-0 and 5-2, respectively at T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson.

This was the third time that Yellow Jackets Memorial Stadium has hosted this event which celebrated its 30th consecutive year of recognizing 72 graduated high school senior soccer players and eight coaches. The North boys now lead the series 15-11-4 while the South girls hold a 10-8-4 advantage.

GIRLS: South 1-0 North
Chapin’s Salley Slice broke a scoreless deadlock less than two minutes into the second half when she made sure a deflected ball off a corner kick from Ashley Ridge’s Emily Kifer got over the goal line to score the game’s only goal. The South peppered the North goal with 14 shots, which produced 11 saves from North goalkeepers Alexis Hutson-Hamric of Eastside and Courtney Weber of Wade Hampton-G. South net-minders Sarah Phillips of Waccamaw and Delaney Hood of Ashley Ridge, who also served as team captains, combined for four saves on seven shots. Edie DeMedicis from South Aiken was selected Most Valuable Player for the North squad and served as a co-captain with Brooke Penedo of T.L. Hanna. Sha’Nya Stevens of Bluffton earned MVP honors for the South.

Keaton Hubbard of Eastside and Luke Williams from St. James each tallied two scores while Logan Shay (Blythewood) and twin brothers Scott and Trevor Wilson of Wade Hampton-H scored one a piece. Hesham Hikal of Burke, Alexis Jimenez of Bluffton, and Shay were all credited with assists for the South squad. Shay and Williams served as co-captains for the South while Davis Hooten of Northwestern and Reel Wise of T.L. Hanna were co-captains for the North. I can only say as a high school coach, that I had 3 players that would have loved to play in the NSSC. I took them to the Senior Showcase, let everyone know they wanted to play, and told them to keep the weekend free in case they were contacted. I told them this since kids dropped out the year I coached as well, and some replacements got contacted very late in the process.

I am not sure what the answer is either, but the conversation needs to happen. If there are kids that make it and don't want to play and kids that want to play that don't get a chance, we are missing something.
