Who were some of the core/key players for Clover?
Three of their 4 goals were scored by reserves. Clover subbed requently. Starters were on the field together for approx. 15 minutes. Game was fairly physical with IL receiving 2 yellows. Shots on goal were probably 25 to 2 Clover.
The Blythewood Hammond game ended in a 1-1 tie there was no offsides call on the goal by Blythewood. The goal scored by Hammond was one of the better shots ive seen in a while perfect upper-90.
mauldin was up 3-0 on riverside, game called early due to rain. terrible weather

Strom Thurmond only played their starters for a half. Good game by both teams.

TabVermes,

By any chance, are you originally from New Jersey?

Welcome to the boards.
Spring Valley 3 BC 1 , thats what i hear from some of the kids on the SV team does anyone know whos scored for both teams and all the other good statistics and whatnot.
Hurst- Yes I am. I'm the boys coach at Barnwell High School. I just decided to change my name for the boards.
Hurst... you're good at discovery!
Northwestern and Wando tonight! should be a great preseason game
Does anyone know who scored the goal for Hammond?

#13 i think his name is braiden im not sure he got hurt with about 5 minutes left in the game.
Anybody got any scores from tonight?
Northwestern 5, Wando 1

Wando boys have a lot of work to do. Northwestern is in end of the season form.

Hard to tell anything from this game. Byrnes isn't a very good side.

BC 1 - SV 3
BC and SV are in the same boat. They lost a lot of talent last year, but they both have some very good veterans. I was impressed/surprised with BC's young guys. They have a ways to go, but they have some talent. If they gel as a team, they should be solid this year and a force to be reconded with next year.

Who scored the goal for BE?
Last week's "Video Goal of the Week".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X70YO34jOfA

Nation Ford senior Andy Barbieri (#6) from Nation Ford freshman Conor Agnew (#13) versus Richland Northeast.
what's special about that goal? a goalkeeper should never get beat on the near post, if he would've had any positioning it wouldn't have gone in. show me something that actually makes the keeper work.

I would have to agree, it was a nice move to the inside to get the pass off but other than that the shot was pure luck that the keeper was out of position. How is RNE this year anyways?
Anybody got anything better on video from week #1?
I don't. Thanks for posting!
Well by playing in the same region as them. I know a little bit about them. To be honest no one every really expects anything special from RNE but sometimes they do surprise some ranked teams but this year I don't expect them to amaze anyone like many other teams i was told they lost alot of starting seniors by graduating class of 08. Other than that I don't know anything else. So I dont know they may be bad they may be good but i know any team can get better throughout the season so you cant call it until the final game is played.
Well, they sure got beat up on by Nation's Ford. Where is Nation's Ford, and how did they do last year?
Nation Ford is the new (2nd year) high school in Fort Mill. Did not make playoffs last year......but still had a pretty good initial year. Will be a better team this year.

RNE wasn't a very good team.
RNE had most of the bench in for most of the game..the coach basically was just trying out the new players
They have a very young team that has potential if they learn to play together

We sure will know what there made of after tonight when they play Eau Claire, kind of a confidence booster for the young team!

wow. any details for the game?
WOW... Irmo only winning by two? What are the details??? Irmo have an off night or has Airport really improved that much. If anyone has the story please fill us in.

The AHS/Irmo match was pretty good. Irmo had run of play for most of the match but Airport held their own and had a few chances in the second half. Irmo's first goal was scored in the 1st minute and then scored about the 20th minute off a corner. AHS recorded a clean sheet in the 2nd half.
lets just say irmo had 22 shots and airport had zero on target . i was at the game airport had 10 players in the box it was ridiculus . im sure alot of talented teams like northwestern and irmo will run into this problem
10 in the box? Sometimes teams have to do whatever it takes!

"run into this problem"???

Achmed not see problem. Irmo win, Airport lose.
One can not kick one's camel from other side of desert.
10 in the box is quite inaccurate, I was at the same match. Airport ran a 4-5-1 and defended but by no means packed the box with 10.
I've seen a stacked defense keep a side close on more than one occasion. When you are clearly the underdog is this a bad plan? Not in my book - I've been to many games and seen one team dominant only to lose because of a break away, PK or set piece. I agree Irmo and Northwestern may see this alot this season.
Chapin played very well from losing so many seniors from last years team. but they didnt have much depth off the bench in the lex game so many of the players are goin to need to step up. They can do it behind Coach Hiller
Quote:

Chapin Alumni 16- Chapin Varisty 0

Haha idk if its goin to be that much but close
Dear Person who runs this site,

The Chapin Alumni 16 Chapin Varsity 0, was a joke, it was a poor attempt to talk trash before the game, and is in no way the real score to that game. The game has not even been played yet. I can only hope that will be the score, but am doubtful.
2/17
@Carolina Forest - 4
Waccamaw - 2

Carolina Forest came out very flat at the beginning and Waccamaw exploited an inexperienced backline by putting in 2 after 30 minutes, despite some great saves by senior goalkeeper Dylan McCarthy, including tipping a vicious dipping volley from 25 yards out onto the crossbar and over after being caught off his line. CF then began to compose themselves in the dying minutes of the first half and were rewarded by pulling one back. A shot by senior captain Noah Lascell was deflected by a Waccamaw defender into the path of TK Ashenafi whose initial effort was brilliantly saved, as was the rebound by freshman midfielder Ivo Parreira which appeared to have crossed the line, but was again spilled into the path of Ashenafi who made no mistakes from 3 yards out.

The second half was all Carolina Forest. A CF corner kick was poorly cleared and fell to TK who trapped with his right thigh and volleyed into the top corner with his left foot from 6 yards out. Noah Lascell then grabbed the winner after some neat passing in the midfield resulted in a perfectly weighted through ball for Lascell to run on to and tap into the far corner past the onrushing Waccamaw goalkeeper. Minutes later TK finished his hat trick to put the gloss on a very strong second half for CF.

Good luck to both teams in their seasons, and congratulations to Waccamaw for beating Myrtle Beach in MB 3-1 days before.

WK went up in the 2nd half and BC scored with about 2 mins. left, only for WK to receive a PK called for them for hand ball in the 18.

So i guess WK is pretty talented this season. Assumeing that Dreher and BC both Wk's wins are having a up to par season!
the southside result is strange, in saying that cause riverside beat soutside, but lost to mauldin and mauldin loses to southside?
I know it seems strange. i was trying new players and different positions during riverside.
We played a 3-4-3 last year and i tried it against riverside but it failed miserably. We played a 4-4-2 against Mauldin and found our form. Just so that everyone knows, Mauldin had a fit team and were not missing anyone. They are a great squad but people need to understand that even though we at southside christian are a 1A school we have alot of challenge and premier players who are sophmores and juniors this year. We play Dorman next Wednesday so that will be another great test.
Riverside 4
Wade Hampton 0

I was at the Riverside/Mauldin game. Riverside was going into 35-40mph winds in the first half. They never played the second half, so hard to judge anything from that game.
Trying players in different positions is what scrimmages are for, every team does it. Riverside has only played their starters for half the game in every scrimmage so far. If you have a good team, you should be able to move players into different positions or sub out players without any drop in the level of play.
Fort Dorchester 2 - Pinewood Prep 1
trisoc, I have to disagree with you on that one. Maybe some of the bigger schools can sub players and play at the same level. Bigger schools can look at their bench and have strong club players sitting. Unfortunately we don't have it like that.
wow wayne... finally somebody who's not afraid to say that Beaufort's good. thanks

Oops sounds like Floras having another standard year.

They were missing 4 starters and lost two more in the game including all four backs.
The style of play on both sides of the ball was to keep the ball on the ground for the most part.

IRMO moved well off of the ball and defended well as a team. Speed of play was pretty good generating short and long range shots. All three keepers played and did well.

The team is capable of taking it to another level all around.
Walhalla alumni 3 Walhalla Varsity 2. Came out very flat against our alumni. They have alot of allstate and collegiate players it was a great experience. Hats off to the Alumni they are a very good side. Walhalla has their last scrimmage Monday against Seneca which is a first in a long time, that the two schools have played against each other. There are alot of players that have played club ball together which it should be a good game to watch. And a great friendly crosstown rivalry.
West Ashley Alumni 3 WA Varsity 2, very fun game we missed a ton of goals in the first half played very flat and made mistakes in the 2nd came back strong final 10 but came up short. Now we need to get ready for Lake Murray Tour
Boiling Springs 2
Rock Hill 1

Very back and forth game, but the better team won friday. Boiling Springs went down 1-0 about 15 min into the game. They scored the 2nd goal with under 2 minutes left in the game.

Going back to the Cardinal Newman-Airport scrimmage let me say that as a fan, I was very pleased with the level of intensity shown by both teams for an early season scrimmage with "nothing on the line". I know for many, it was an exciting reminder that high school soccer in SC is back. However, what was a very competitive and enjoyable match to watch was marred by the actions of Airport's head coach.

In a game where the fans for both teams were very spirited (not all of which I condone), it is understandable for emotions to run high, both in the stands and on the sidelines. But, to turn toward the stands, and raise a very visable middle finger to the opposing team's fans was both distasteful and disappointing. As a head coach, this gentleman is a representative of these young men, the school, that community, and himself. I hate this especially for these young men on his team who now have to be viewed in the same light as their coach. Classless, in my honest opinion, and shocking that this adult couldn't keep his emotions in check.

It still won't take away from the play on the field though, as both teams played well in early-season action. Good luck to both as the season continues on!
Results from the Rotary Classsic played at Blackbaud Stadium (40 minute matches):
Berkeley 5, North Charleston 0
West Ashley 0, Stratford 0
Ashley Ridge 1, Colleton County 0
Fort Dorchester 3, Goose Creek 0

Huh? Any other reports of this action? Are the teams on the same sideline?
To whom it may concern:

There were no actions on my part or anyone on my staff of such things. I am sorry if anything was misconstrued but I am not worried about what goes on behind me on the field, only what is in front of me. I don't know what you may be talking about and as far as I am concerned I really do not care. The match was unbelievable as our boys have showed great determination and hard work this preseason. I am very proud of what we have accomplished so far in the season and I feel like that should be the topic on a message board if Airport High School is included. Again, I do not know what situation you are referring to as I am a professional and only care about the progression of my team. If you still feel the need to talk, feel free to send me a pm. I would be more interested in talking about the players on scsoccer, not myself or another coach or fan. Thanks.

And yes both teams are on the same side.

Ah so not deep then fair enough any other scrimmage scores for them? Obviously i'm an alum
RVHS 1 Lexington 2
Ive got to agree with the AHS coach, and also as a player we take alot of harassment from the fans most of which is uncalled for i can see where this Airport player was coming from they have a very good program there. Something had to have provoked him to commit the action in the way that he did kids just dont randomly give parents and fans "the bird".

As for the Ridge View/Lexington game, first of all i would like to give my congrats to both sides to a game well played. Justin B. Ridge Views keeper was excellent all game and it was a even match.

The first goal should have never made it in the goal it was a mis-communication with the players as to who was to clear the ball out.

The second goal scored on justin was a pk which was a fundamental mistake. He made a great save and it seemed that only Lexginton players crashed the goal and they finished it from there.

Without some of the fundamental mistakes by Ridge View the game probably would have been turned around big time in the blazers favor.
Little biased there MidlandsKid. As a fan that was not a very accurate summary of the game. The Ridgeview keeper rarely had to make any decent saves because of the lack of shots on goal by Lexington. Even though it was a pretty even first half, it was apparent in the second half that Lex was the better team, and Ridgeview resorted to playing kickball the rest of the game. The match got a little heated towards the end, but was overall a good game.

@ Woodruff 2
Chapman 0

Game not near as close as scoreline shows. Woodruff had trouble finishing the ball with missing several break aways and a few open goal opportunities. While saying that Chapman also had 2 or 3 golden opportunities they couldn't capatalize on. Scrimmage was good for the two teams, and showed what both teams need to work on. Looking forward to when they play the next time.

Not biased i thought both teams played well both teams having thier moments. Ridge Views goalkeeper had a excellent save, which was not recognized because the fundamental breakdown by his defense. Lexington won they deserved it, both sides had thier moments of kick ball at the end so i dont think only Ridge View should be recognized by that. I dont attend either school so i dont really have a favor for either team.
Anyone know the BC/CN score?
Brookland-Cayce 1:6 Cardinal Newman

Cardinal Newman has a very fine team this year and were simply too much for us tonight. The score was 5:1 at halftime. Good luck to Coach Eudy and the Cardinals for a great 2009 season!
Walhalla 2 Seneca 2 Good game for both teams to experiment on some players before the final cut.
Anybody know Cardinal Newmans pre-season record and what the scores were, beside the BC game?
Thanks Coach.

We have Played Airport(4-2 Win) and BC. We play Blythewood tomorrow at CN 7:30pm that was rescheduled from last wed night. Then we travel to Mt Pleasant to play in the CSC. There we face Ft Mill, Wando and Hilton Head.
does anyone know if NW has scrimmaged anyone other than wando or BE or will before the tourny? and what the results of the game were if they did?

Not sure if completly correct can someone confirm this. Just what I've heard from the players
Aiken Defeated Barnwell 4-2.

Aiken controlled the run of play most of the game. Barnwell scored on a counter in the first half and in the last minute of the game.

The Barnwell keeper made sevral great saves to keep the score down.

Jake Gaulden gets both goals for the Falcons.....
Agreed. Aiken played pretty well. Surprised me that Barnwell didn't do a little better though. The keeper for Barnwell is very good. He made a lot of great saves.
With these early season scrimmages it's sometimes really hard to get a feel for what a team may have. I'm sure coaches use these for just what they should. A opportunity to see what kids can do without a regular season or especially a region game on the line. I'm not saying the coaches are playing around or don't care, but may be looking at some players in certain positions or formations just to see what they may possibly work towards. Of course it's nice to get a win instead of a loss but I say to a degree take scrimmages with a grain of salt.

Im guessing you are in ties with Aiken high school just put it together you asking about the sandhills tourney and now defending the score that Aiken put up. I'd have to agree with your statement great thinking!

I agree with what you said. It's better to see how some of the kids will act in certain scenarios and know what kind of talent you've got, than to create ball-hogs or something worse.

If Blythewood won why is it shown in the scoreboard that they tied, shouldnt it be a win for Blythewoodsince they went into pk's.
Coach Eudy the pk count was BHS:3 CN:2 Blythewood's keeper stopped 3 out of 5 pk's and one of the players for Blythewood missed and one didnt get to shoot.
Because it's a scrimmage.

Technically since the rules of the game weren't applied in the form of Overtime then it ended in a tie and the PKs were basically a form of practice for both squads.

Again, it's a scrimmage
Was overtime played in the Chapin White Knowl game? or do the same rules apply to that one too
Who knows/cares.

If you're going to hang your hat on a scrimmage then you've got a long season ahead of you.
Me, because i want to know how it works idc if it gets done or not i just want to know how the scoring is posted no need to get furious.
MidlandsKid,

End of game was 2-2. After two 5 minute halves it went to PKs. It was a good scrimmage.
Thanks for letting me know I hear Demare wasnt there but it looks like WK is a much improved team this year with some of thier early wins, looking forward to seeing them in the sandhills tournament.
MidlandsKid-

We did not play OT and simply did PKs for practice. you are right on the count though.
Anyone have information on Hammond? An incomplete schedule on the Scoreboard and only one scrimmage result posted.
Hammond beat airport 2 0 and tied dreher 1-1 I think.

Some people on the board want some results taken seriouly. I hear ya big fella.

any details on the Cardinal Newman Blythewood game?
Was not at the game but ... heard Blythwood came out strong, but then began to fade off. Cardinal Newman outshot Bylthwood but just could not finish the chances. Both sides keepers had some very important saves. Both goals came in the last 10 mins; came down to the wire. Overall a good game.

(Blythewood):) i agree with 803 Blythewood came out strong in the first 30 mins and lost some momentum right before half then they started out good for the first 5-10 mins and Cardinal Newman controlled most of the rest of the game, both teams getting goals in the last 10 minutes.

And shut up and play, this scrimmage does mean a great deal to Blythewood seeing as both Cardinal Newman and Blythewood played there starters pretty much the whole game and a team in Blythewood that is usually under the radar playing a team like Cardinal Newman who is getting alot of hype is a big moral boost for there team. Therefore it does matter to someone.

Woodruff dominated entire game. Woodruff still can't finish the ball, missed several breakaways and several open goal opportunities. Once the boys end this snakebitten streak the will be in great shape for the rest of the year.
