General question for the forum. If you play in a tournament that does not have overtime, you tie at the end of regulation, and then lose in PKs is that a tie because no overtime was played or a loss. I am seeing different things on the scoreboard. Thanks
my understanding is a tie.
yep, a tie. I have one of those on my record this year.
In that case we need to get the Fort Mill record changed back to a tie for the Chapin game. Was showing as a tie but now it shows as two losses when they have only lost to NHS. I also guess the Chapin record should lose a win and add them up a tie too???

Guess Clover should get credit for their tie too.

Ties that are part of tournaments that proceed directly to a penalty kick shootout to determine a winner for bracket play are recorded as ties.

Tournament and Regular season games that proceed to play overtime periods followed by PKs are designated as win/loss.
Thank you Coach Heise for that clarification.

Unless there's some goofy HS rule to the contrary, scores of games decided by kicks from the spot don't change. A 0-0 game doesn't become 1-0, it's still 0-0.

Actually, it is kind of "goofy", but those are the S.C. High School League stipulations since "no match may end in a tie". Thus, if an overtime session is played then the match is recorded as a Win or a Loss. If it proceeds straight to penalty kicks to determine a "bracket winner/advancement", - i.e., tournament play - then it is registered as a tie. End of subject.

To be honest, it is about as "goofy" as referring to girls soccer as "Ladies" or "Women" - it's "Girls" in the prep ranks and youth soccer. When they go to college or all become 18 - i.e., military recognition - then the referral of "Ladies" or "Women" can be used. Boys and Girls in high school, though!
Coach: I understand a need to determine a winner for the sake of simplicity of standings, etc. My quibble is with the scoreline. Winning a game through kicks from the spot does not (or should not) change the score of the game. 0-0 is still 0-0, even though one team gets credit for a win.
Well, simply put: IT IS WHAT IT IS!

SCSoccer.com will continue to record "W/L" for overtime matches decided by penalty kicks and "T" for matches tied at the end of regulation that go straight to PKs. That is the way our state (not North Carolina or others) "powers" (ADs) see fit. Feel free to come up with your own record system.

FWIW, when the rankings are considered, matches that are decided by PKs, regardless of OT or not, are considered draws anyway.

South Pointe 2 Ridge View 0. Congrats to SP #12 is a player. However, that was the worst officiated game I have seen all year. I believe RV had 7 yellow cards and SP had 0. One player got 2 , the coach got one and one player got one for putting a thumbs up to the official. I hope nobody has to put up with those two. They were brutal!!!
Coach: As I said, I have no problem with reporting results as you do, and my comments aren't directed at scsoccer. My question/issue is with the practice of what amounts to awarding a goal to a team that wins in kicks from the spot (another pet peeve - if no foul has been committed, it isn't a penalty kick - but that's admittedly a bit pedantic). For example, if Aiken beats White Knoll in kicks after tying 2-2, the proper result is 2-2 Aiken wins in pk's (I surrender) 4-3. The scoreline of the game doesn't become 3-2.

Just noticed the horse was dead - so I'm done. Cheers.

Is is just a coincidence that there seems to be a problem with the ref's being to harsh in the Ridge View games or could it be that Ridge View is just a rough, dirty team. It can't just be that all ref's don't like Ridge View. Let's not put all the blame on the ref's.
Happy Daddy you need a hobby. Try kicking rocks. You should check the high school rules about how a game unless tournament does not end in a tie.
I guess you missed the first two times I said that I understand that the HS rules require a winner, and that I have no quarrel with that. Do the rules also require awarding the winning a team a goal that they didn't score?

Pendleton has improved over last year. Good luck Coach Gary the rest of the way I hope your commute from Easley gets easier.
Hahahahahah ridge view lost to SP. I agree you need to stop blaming refs. Ridge View isn't necessarly a "dirty" team they just are extremely physical and hustle but I can see sometimes where one might consider them dirty. All refs are different and their judgements on the field vary every game and every team. It is in the refs own call on judgement and what they saw that allows them to call a foul or give a card. One ref might think one thing while the other ref thinks differently

The VOR
what explains the card for giving a thumbs up to the ref? As not all games can be blamed on refs, no disrespect intended, it may be possible that the same ref has called these kind of games more than once for Ridge View. As Gucci said dirty play and hustle and being physical can be interpreted two different ways depending on how you look at it, however you would have had to be at the game to understand the officiating that the delivery man is speaking of, again no disrespect intended, just input.

From beaufortgazette.com:

Battery Creek 3-2 Stall
SP-Ridge View was a very physical game. The 18 or so coaches on the RV sideline do not help as they constantly scream at the officials.

Saw some things that were just unacceptable from a parents and coaches perspective. One, the SP goalie was knocked out in the first half during a collision with a RV forward. The RV player was carded, left the field, and was rewarded with high fives from all coaches and players. Absolutely classless. One RV parent chased the refs into the parking lot after the game.

Some good players on the RV side, left back comes to mind and #10 less the two yellow cards was a load. Some nice play from RV and unfortunately, late in the game, got caught up in the blame the ref game.

Nice win for SP.

Seriously this argument is about as lame as the girl's forum.

Try there for help/sympathy with your issue.

I understand your plight. I have said the same thing but the fact remains that a 2-2 draw in S.C. high school soccer with a match that includes overtime is going to have a winner and a loser - per SCHSL rules. The rules state that it has to happen, therefore the "winner" is credited with one more goal than the "loser", although SCSoccer.com considers these matches a tie when compiling rankings despite the W/L record reflecting otherwise. For instance, Spring Valley's boys varsity team is currently 6-3-0 overall, but in "soccer terms" is 5-2-2.
My, what brilliant rhetorical skills you have.

On my "give a rip" scale of 1-10, this registers about a 2.5. But, if you have a cogent explanation for awarding a phantom goal to teams that win in kicks, I'd love to hear it. In the meantime, I'll continue to prefer that such games be treated as they are in the rest of the soccer universe.
Thanks Coach. Certainly didn't intend to annoy you or the forumites. Besides, soccer is already alien enough to the folks at the High School League without introducing the concept of a draw. Their heads might asplode!
