Congrats to S. Aiken and Coach Waters, this has turned into a nice little rivalry between the schools.

S. Aiken pretty much controlled possession in the 1st half, Airport defense was solid as well. Nil Nil at the break

2nd half much more even, AHS actually had more in the final 3rd, although S. Aiken had multiple free kicks from range.

Airport strikes first in a cross in 67th minute. S. Aiken scores on a pen in the 83rd minute to send to OT.

S. Aiken scores on a cross with about 2 left. Final.

Well fought game by both teams. Woodruff seemed to have a slight edge the whole game, but couldn't finish the ball. Palmetto scored with a little over a minute to play in regulation.

Very poor job by the officials. They seemed to miss more then normal tonight, even for a 2 ref system.

I hope someone can answer my question on this situation:
Player throws the ball in when it gets touched by only the keeper and then goes into the goal. Is that a goal?

From my understanding it doesn't matter who touches the ball as long as someone does. The refs said that it must be touched by the team that threw the ball in to be a goal.

Similar to the cheap shot your #10 took in the last 30 seconds of the overtime. A cowardly cheap shot taken from behind that, if seen by the officials, would have got him a straight red. No, it was not seen by the officials. But it was seen by the coach, was it not?

That all being said, that was an awful attempt. I didn't know South Aiken had that many middle school tikes on their JV squad...

Wait a second...when a player fouls, they are not allowed to play the next game because if they foul, then they have to sit or a school or coach has no character? Is that what you are saying?

S.A. will "CAGE" the bearcats up, and finish them off.
If i recall correctly, #10 for Airport wasn't the only one giving out cheap shots. S.A. was throwing elbows, pulling jerseys, diving, and trying to level multiple airport players (S.A.'s #9). Fouls were going both ways, and as for the cheap shots i'm sure #10 wasn't the only one giving them out. What kind of character do you have when you try to tell coaches and parents how to do their job?

Troll, Achmed, Tugjobber-

Good to see the BC contingency is back in full force after THEIR loss at Airport. Trying to call AHS players dirty and questioning their coach? Apparently you missed the BC/Chapin match when one of BC's players was tossed for shadowboxing a Chapin player. Don't think we didn't see the BC crew last night at Airport.

If S. Aiken and BC want to clash on the boards, go for it. Glad to see S. Aiken has some new found spunk but let's be realistic, the match was over and the ref missed a handball and let that play go. Numerous dives by S. Aiken as well. Bottom line is AHS had that match won last night and the match was blown by the referee. Airport still controls their destiny in the region.

#10 is a great player and a great competitor, I am sure he will be on the field next week vs. Dreher. S. Aiken had at least 2 plays that could have been straight reds. There was no foul called on #10 for anything in overtime. So if you want to call the shots, call them both ways.
Come on people... get a life - you are talking about a region that has won how many state championships in the past 20 years? I can only think of one - and that was South Aiken last season(Yes - South Aiken won a state championship in 2005 but they were 4A then). Before that 3A state championships were OWNED by the upstate for a long long time. From the looks of things that is more than likely were it is headed again this year.....State is what really matters not your little region... and no we don't care about how many runner-ups you may have because all that says is that you were the first LOSER!!!!
I don't think that to be true at all about the 3A this year. I think Region V is strong and BC, S. Aiken, and Airport could all hang with the upstate teams. There is no real clear cut favorite up there in my opinion because they keep beating each other but the same holds true for lowerstate. These 3 plus NMB will be strong in the playoffs. Any of them will be able to challenge for state.

You can look at statistics all you want but it comes down to who is hot at the right time and who wants it the most. Don't write the lower state off just yet.

Again, well done to S. Aiken last night! It should be an interesting 2 weeks.
Huh, are you kidding that they can hang with upstate teams? BC got thrashed by Riverside and Chapin, Airport tied Blue Ridge. SA is surging right now and it will be SA or NMB in the title game.

By the way, what was the Chapin/Flora score?
soccerpatrol1

Not real sure when Achmed or Tugjobber said anything about Airport and their coaches...maybe I miss read? On your other comment, I would like to suggest that the HSL implement a "Say No to Racism" act. Maybe that would result in fewer "shadowboxing" exhibitions?

And as for the BC crew watching the game, why wouldn't they? With the other top two teams in region playing so close to home, why would anyone miss out on some great soccer that could help determine the region?

Glad to see Achmed and his BC gang hanging "tough" after a rough week for the "River Rats"--not only losing to Airprt and Chapin (I would guess their two most hated soccer rivals) but their baseball and softball teams lost to region arch-rival Airport this week as well--to their girls credit, I believe their girls soccer team did beat Airport earlier this season and beat Chapin in pks this week though.

As all have said, should be an interesting two weeks as the season winds down--good to see such "good" 3A soccer here in the midlands.

2007 Greenville win 3-1

First off let me apologize for using the player’s number. That was a mistake, and by the time I tried to go back and edit my post, it was locked. But with that said, and even though my remarks may have been a bit too harsh, in general I still stand by them.
Notsofast
Maybe I should have been clearer. The cheap shot I mention was what I saw as a purposefully and maliciously kick to the legs of the S. Aiken player. It was away from the play of the ball, and it was done from behind. It occurred right in front of the coach, and the player immediately came off the field (without a replacement).
El Nino
I’m all for a physical game, but this wasn’t some roughhousing during the play of the ball. So yes, when one maliciously tries to injure another player, then one should question the character of the people that allow this to continue.
Soccerpatroll
I did not question that the Airport player was a great player and competitor. I question the message sent to this young man and team mates when actions like this are allowed to occur, with no consequences.

I heard from a fellow reliable source that during over time a South Aiken player sweeped the legs out from under an Airport defender clearly intentional and then when getting up from the groud he picked up another players leg and slung him down to the groud.... If you are going to call out a player from Airport saying he has bad character and not say anything about individuals from the other team who from what i hear do the exact same thing then you are out of line.
Having said that the game was extremely important to both teams and emotions were high, they are teenagers and things happen, so let them play and leave it at that.
A reliable source? The only way you would be somewhat accurate is if you were there. It was a Very physical game and yes there were many fouls from both sides. Officials were a little lax on calling fouls. By th way U NO Me, it is swept.... All the games are very important in all divisions when you are fighting for playoff spots. Move on with these comments. Leave it on the field....
agreed! leave it on the field gentleman.
I've been out of pocket for a while, but I picked up a Columbia Star newspaper this morning and read this regarding the Spring Valley at Dreher match with the score tied 1-1:

"The score remained that way through regulation, despite the fact the Blue Devils dominated play in the second half. They outshot Spring Valley 13-6, and if not for nine saves by (Ben) Limbaugh, at least two of which were miraculous diving one-handed stabs, the contest would have been a blowout, but due to Limbaugh's efforts the contest went to overtime.

The Vikings regained a little control outshooting the Blue Devils 4-2 in both overtimes, but no one was able to score forcing the match into penalty kicks.

Limbaugh helped his own effort by scoring on the first PK for Spring Valley. Six shots later, the Vikings held a 4-3 edge with Daniel Thunell to shoot for Dreher. Limbaugh guessed right and blocked the shot.

With Spring Valley superstar (Antoine) Parris up next in the rotation, things appeared well in hand for the Vikings, but Parris' shot sailed left opening the door for the Blue Devils. Connor Sprinkle then drilled a shot to tie the PK count at 4-4.

Spring Valley's David Cooke then put a shot in the left corner, and Limbaugh came up big once more guessing right to deny Leif Kayes and end the game.

Anyway, I thought it was very telling that Dreher has made significant improvement this year with a relatively inexperienced varsity squad. Good luck Blue Devils!

Troll,

So if the player came off the field without a replacement and it was in front of the coach, than I would assume the coach took him out. That tells me that the situation was dealt with as in your first post you question the character of the coach and team. Sounds to me like the coach took care of it. Being this point in the season, I would expect the kid to still play since apparently no foul was called. I imagine the coach would deal with that on the practice field. I wasn't at the match so I can't comment on specifics but from what I gather it was a physical match with not so great refs.
