On 8' from W.C. Hawkins Stadium, AAAA Lower State Final action:

Irmo 1:0 Wando ...

We'll report 'em as we get 'em.
7:30 PM - The Cage, Cayce SC

AAA Lower State Championship:

Brookland-Cayce 0:0 South Aiken

Great atmosphere on a beautiful night. Is that a vuvuzela I hear in the distance? All I know is there are an awful lot of Krispy Kreme hats, Burger King crowns, and helments of all kind along the fence here at The Cage. Updates will follow as we can post...
Officials for tonight's match: David Erbacher is the referee; His assistant referees are John Tanverde and Mark Davino. Injury in the first 30 seconds as Lee Quattlebaum takes a knock we didn't see and falls down on the near touch line. He's back up and competing, though. Wes Griffith proceeds to find some space and fires the first shot of the match to the right of B-C goalkeeper Chris Duzan's goalpost.
The Bearcats move into their attacking third. While not finding the frame in any way, they earned a long throw. Jalen Butler sent a 20' shot goalbound which was cleared out of the end line. Two corner kicks ensued as a result, and Two Taylor Lewis headers were directed away from the woodward. South Aiken responded with shots by Dylan Gaul and Brady Francis as each team is keeping the other honest.

From W.C. Hawkins on 37':

Irmo 2:0 Wando
Irmo almost put a header in with 10 seconds left in the half..hit the crossbar. Sounds like it is a 50-50 game...Irmo has just put the goals in.

Brookland-Cayce 1:0 South Aiken

It has been back and forth in The Cage in this Lower State finale. South Aiken had the advantage on shots until a late flurry and long throw into the box bounced around and was played back towards the far touch by Alfredo Sanchez. Jalin Butler buried it from about 25 yards out near the corner of the area into the right side netting giving B-C the early advantage.

It continues to be busy at both ends of the pitch in The Cage.

Brookland-Cayce uses a foul throw as an opportunity to send one into space towards the near flag. Thomas Harris makes his way towards the goal and it is cleared out for a corner. But Vince Driessen makes the play on the in-swinging kick. South Aiken then pushes forward and wins a feee kick seven or eight yards from the area. The resulting direct kick by Dylan Gaul is goal bound but Chris Duzan makes the save of the shot over the wall.

On 52', it's B-C 1, South Aiken 0.

Christ Church beat Southside Christian on PKs. 4-3 score in the shootout... pretty sure it was scoreless headed into the shootout.

Their is competition in 3A! The lower state battles it out with each other and the upper state battles it out against each other. But they are just on different levels. New 3A Classifications should be Greenville Metropolitan Area and Everyone else...hehehe.
Here is a question.

Why is it that south aiken dropped down to 3A for two years, only to return to 4A next year? Did the number of students who attend South Aiken simply vanish for these two years alone?

If not... then essentially South Aiken is a 4A team playing in 3A.....

just some food for thought
Way to gooo SA!! Great game and glad SA pulled it out dont really like them bearcats anyways
My theory: they came down so they could win a few state championships in sports to raise the prestige of the school. And then go on their merry way to the abyss of 4A soccer, where they will lose in the first round or second round every year, unless they have a team like 2005 again. They had good cross country and track teams, girls are in the 3A final and their baseball team is in the state championship. Those T-Breds are pretty clever.
My hats goes off to Batesburg-Leesville they played a great game. Good Luck in in the State Championship! Walhalla I thank you for playing so hard and playing the way the game should be played, beautifully. Good luck seniors Joel,Backy,Obi and Juan. Returners get ready for 3A. It will be a huge jump.
what was the penalty that opened the door for SA so late in the game?
BC center back #22 stepped in on #4 for SA, Brady Francis, in the box and Francis fell to the ground. From my angle I could not assess the validity of the foul called but having said that Francis stepped up and dispatched a beautiful penalty kick.

I think Riverside does! hahahaha, it seems like for ages now they have been supposed to move up to 4A but I still see them around in 3A

SA is hot right now. If they can contain the "boom ball" show put on by BC they should be fine. Naylor and Brady have a sick rip from outside the 18.

hmmmmm....sounds like you are already preparing your excuses why they lost.

I'll see your Naylor/Brady and raise you a Lewis/Duzan/Stone and I'll throw in a Cojulun just to make it interesting

BC is healthy, well rested and playing some of the best ball they have played all year. South Aiken is tough, but I just can't imagine BC not putting up the "W" tonight in the "CAGE".

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... oh BC parents, they make me laugh.

The answer to your question, South Aiken has always been low in the numbers of people to be considered a 4A school. It has always been very up and down, which is why it has changed from 3A to 4A and back several times since it has opened. Two years ago when the last count was down a smaller freshman class was coming up which pushed SA down to a 3A school, the next year when the counts were done again the Freshman class must have been bigger pushing them back up to a 4A school. However even though they are a 4A school next year they are the VERY LAST team to be considered 4A, I would expect this to fall again.

(all information from post about this last season)
South Aiken will be staying in 4A longer than what they hope. Their enrollment is the same as Aiken High this year and they are expecting to be a little bigger than Aiken next year.

The paper says Acree is going to USC? I thought he was going to Lander or Erskin? Manchester do you know?

The second goal from Irmo was sick! That was a great goal and I was sitting there expecting another throw in to happen but a great goal came from the run of play. Where was Lunceford and Acree the whole game though? They wwere absent the whole second half Irmo - NW will be a heck of a game now! Lets go TROJANS!

I'm pretty sure the writer mistakenly thought he was interviewing Acree when he was actually interviewing Lunceford. To the best of my knowledge, Acree is headed to Lander in the Fall.

AM had more and better opportunities, but Hardeeville's goalie made some very nice saves on a couple of point blank shots. The local paper had the shots at 15 AM - 5 Hardeeville with the shots on goal at 7-1. It was a very good game and give Hardeeville credit for an outstanding effort.

Good luck to the Raptors this Saturday.

Boys 3A Lower State Championship game
The final score did not reflect the game at all. Good luck to South Aiken. The 3-A State Championship game will be very interesting. I looking forward to watching.
I predict 7-0 by Bishop England, this game want be close.
completely agree with soccertennis, I don't know how B-L got to the final, maybe AA is much worse then I previously thought, or I should rephrase to such a big drop from AAA.... But Waccamaw was the only team standing in BE's way of winning the state championship game. This could get very ugly, no disrespect to B-L, but they are a co-ed team!
B-L is a good team and even though they are co-ed the gils they have are better than most the guys in 2A. B-L has good players who will keep the game in striking distance.
How about those T-Breds??? I told you that they'd repeat this year!

Where do the B-L players play club? Lexington?
if nothing at all....How far is the drive to the Aiken-Augusta Bulls fields from B-L?
is b/e football the driving force behind keeping the school 2A?

b/l is co-ed??
maybe their like SA and stay in a lower level to win state championships, Bishop England's enrollment is around 900 though so to be fair AA is where they belong.

Unfortunately B-L is coed, I'm not a misogynist I just feel that boys' sports should be for just the guys and girls' sports should be just for the girls. It is unfair to the guys on the other team to have to change the way they play when they come against a girl. I have seen refs give calls to a girl on a co-ed team because she was touched by a guy on the other team, it really is ridiculous. Hopefully the state championship game will prove me wrong though
ya, i don't think b/e soccer is gathering much respect anymore for the schedule they play...but to the soccer programs defense, i'm sure fball is the decision maker as it is in most schools.
yea, how about those T-breds? They need need to thankful for two things this season. First, the German exchange student who ended up being a great goalie for them this season, and second that they're still in 3A. I think they'll be in for a bit of a wake up call next year. Just can't imagine them going up against the likes of Irmo.
especially with Francis going, I think they are 17-0 with him, and 1-4 without him........
Hold on. Someone with a kesha photo for their photo talking smack. Yeah that is going to worry some folks as to your views on whatever you decide to talk about. LOL

Congrats NW! Oz, can you fit another star above the helmet on that logo?

Coach S, great job with your Mavs this season.
To be honest , congrats to BL but Emerald was the only team that could have kept Bishop England game close this year. And I'm not sure how close it would be but I promise you it wouldn't be 7-0. That's my prediction for saturday.
Emerald had a senior bunch who had played in three state Championship games the last three years. And yea BE won all three games 1-0 ans 4-0. And I'm not saying they could beat BE but they would have kept it closer than whats going to happen saturday, Hopefully I'm wrong but I doubt it.
Don't get me wrong Emerald laid an egg in play offs but they were the best 2A upstate team this year. They beat BL twice this year and controlled both of those games.
Good Luck to BL because they will need it. It could really get ugly!!!

Well we played SA and it went to OT. They're better than you think. I still think BE will win 4-0, but B-L should do okay!
Mauldin- Northwestern game was a lot closer than the 4-1 final. The second goal by Northwestern was "soft" goal and changed the remainder of the game with the final two NW goals pretty much a result of Mauldin having to push forward for the tie. Best of luck to Northwestern in the final. It'll take a big effort to win
With Walhalla going to 3A next year, B-L and Emerald should battle it out for upper state for a while. Up and comers Penndleton and Gilbert have a chance to make some waves. Of course, B-E may run off 12 straight state titles if Waccamaw cannot break through.

Walhalla should be fine in region 1 - AAA and some great natural rivalries, but they will have to match up with region 2 teams (Riverside, Eastside, Geenville) in playoffs. Walhalla better get more consistent to match up with those CESA player laden teams.
Forgot Riverside going 4A along with JL Mann.

Thought still valid

Well done you sir....well done.
Hurst, We are working on the 4th star. I will post it as soon as we get it all sorted out!
As I said in another post "congrats!!! to BL." And maybe my post was exactly what motivated BL to take it to the Bishops.
And who would have thought what happened with the Bishops who had 42 shots to 7 and you don't finished 10% of those. But i'm glad BL won, they deserve the state championship and earned it. I'm glad I was wrong!!! good job Batesburg-Leesville. You are deserving State Champs!!!
