Could someone elaborate on the rules this year for pre-season practice?
Open practice from Nov.1 - 21. With a ball as many players as you can stand.
Coaches-what is your opinion on the rule? Just curious to get other people's takes and for conversation. I think I am torn on it because so many players are still playing club and simply cannot train back to back. I think it benefits the larger schools more than smaller. Personally I think I prefer the 7 on 1 better but that's just me. The open season definitely helps identify players and see how they have progressed since last season though. It's a tough call. Thoughts?
get players reconnected w/ each other and program- opportunity for new prospects to meet returning players-
chance to see who may be interested-
IDK- up and down about it on different levels...
Being the only Boys Varsity coach I have other commitments during the same time. I liked it better that one year when we could practice 8 players during the off season.
Six of one, half dozen another IMO. We've had decent turn out -- around 30 per session, but most are involved with club and we stress that club takes precedent this time of year. Not much training going on, just 7v7 or 11v11 for an hour or so.
The biggest positive I have found is that you can get a lot of the preseason paperwork - SCHSL physicals, athletic policies, etc. collected!
