Who are the favorites to win Player of the Year?  I would like to see all these kids play this year, so please do not just list the best player on your team, keep it to real contenders.

Returning Super XXII Players:

Ryan Arambula, MF, Myrtle Beach
Kevin Fielden, MF, Fort Mill
Koty Millard, MF, Cardinal Newman
Cole Seiler, MF, Christ Church
Connor Dunbaker, FWD, Irmo
Nestor Jaramillo, FWD, Cardinal Newman

Other top contenders:

Joe Amon, MF (is he playing now that he is done with residency?)
Hamilton Carlin, FWD, and Erik Clark, MF, Wando
Ryo Ogawa, FWD, Riverside (is he playing?)
Wesley Eads, FWD, and Devin L'Amoreaux, MF, Fort Dorchester

This seems like a really strong year for individual talent.

Koty Millard- best player in the state hands down, his engine never cools, and a great team player
What happened to Ryo at Riverside? I heard he wasn't playing this year.

Wow if Koty is the best and Nestor is also mentioned as one of the best how did they do against Lexington? I would have figured at least a three goal win and not a 4-4 tie

Just because they are upperclassmen doesnt mean they are the best. There are several underclassmen who are just as good or even better- just remember one of the youngest players in the world is also the best-LM-

He's been injured for a while.

That's a stretch. Messi is fully developed physically. There is a big difference between a 14-15 year old and a 17-18 year old size with, athleticism wise, and skill wise. Obviously there are rare exceptions, but the majority of superstars are upperclassmen in every high school sport. And with how physical high school soccer is, underclasssmen are at a disadvantage.
Where does joe amon play at?

A friend saw SC academy team play on Sunday and felt Devin was best player on field for SC. He thought he saw Koty and Joe on field but didn't feel at level of Devin on that given day

Wow, Last night I watched a soph from Eastside totally dominate a senior laden JL Mann team that was loaded with premier level talent, some of whom are playing at Clemson next year. Eastside plays against Riverside (Ryo) and Christ Church (Seiler) next week and we will see how they do. He looked pretty good for an undersized, underdeveloped kid playing against those senior men.

Oh and I almsot forgot Arambula had a hard time with with in the State Championship last year, nut then again he was only a freshman so he must have been underestimated.

If you are proposing an underclassman for 'player of the year,' just name that player. No reason to bash the other players while keeping your candidate a secret. Is your candidate an Eastside player...?

Connor is a phenom no doubt. Mann had zero chemistry last night and the 3-1 score could have been closer. When he is a senior he will be the best. Mann will rebound. They have another tough one tonight on the road at WH.
Arambola is a senior.
Connor Donahue is a very good player for Eastside and as elprofe notes, will be in this conversation in future. No offense to him, but my son's team has played Eastside and Christ Church and Cole Seiler totally dominated the game. He has all the tools and would get my vote although I have to confess that I have not seen all the lower state players.

Tiny Dancer I would have to agree with you that Seiler is probably the best in the state right now- I was just trying to start an honest conversation that just because they are older they arent neccesarily better. I can name several (Burnikel,Rackely,Donohue,Amano,Khouri)who could start on any team in the state and make it a championship contender. I just dont think it is right that oftentimes the accolades are given to the seniors just because they are seniors
Joe Amon is at Summerville.
lvrpul do you need a hug?

***HUGS!!!***
Haven't seen him since last season, but at that time, Khouri was not as good as advertised. Has he improved THAT much? I'm open to the possibility.

Palmetto Cup should be interesting then as many of these players will be matched up against each other. Another key is not only which player is solid as a player but which one makes their team better as a team, not as an individual.
To me, you need to see a kid in multiple venues over more than four days of time to evaluate him. Khouri is an excellent example. My guess is, I just haven't seen him enough -- and certainly not lately -- to make a fair evaluation. I doubt that more than a small handful of folks statewide have seen all, or even most, of these kids play recently. Which is why the lion's share of this thread is based on reputations, which tend to be wildly inflated.

Somewhat agree but this forum is for our enjoyment and as you noted, you would need to see player in a variety of settings and games. If the best player in the state is a defender, do you feel he/she would be recognized. Not likely. Of the names mentioned to date, maybe only one is playing D in high school and he is on the national team.
Actually, I WOULD choose a defender, or a keeper, or whomever I thought was "the best."
As to Joe Amon, I've had the opportunity to watch him play on numerous occasions over the last four months. Early on, he was clearly not 100% physically. As he has gotten more fit, he has grown on me. But his game is an acquired taste, so to speak, and again, the case for seeing a kid multiple times.
