Does anyone know if JV are to go to OT after a regulation tie or straight to PK's? We have had some discrepancies, where jv boys have gone straight to pk's and girls went to OT. The ref of girl game said it was a new rule this year.

For the last two seasons my JV teams have settled the draw via two five minute OT periods then PKs if still deadlocked.

Agreed. I've not heard of any new rule. I do recall hearing that IF JV is able to play OT and then if still tied, go to a penalty shootout then continue on with the game.

The big IF is there because IF the JV game will delay a Varsity Game by a large amount of time, then JV would need to go to a Shootout. This is so that teams that travel an hour or more don't get home later on a school night than needed.

What eMnAvA said is what I remember Skip saying at the winter clinic.

As long as the JV games does not delay the varsity game by an extended period of time (for travel reasons) then they are allowed to play out OT and then shootout.

All JV games are to have winners with two 5-minute MANDATORY OT periods then kicks from the mark if required. The schools when entering their schedules should allow for 1 3/4 hours for a JV game and 2 hours for a varsity match. The EXCEPTIONS to this if there is an ARRIVAL time issue (assuming the JV play first) such as a bus issue and the late arrival will cause the varsity game to start very late, then it is up to the school to notify the officials that the JV game will NOT play OT or kicks. This will be between the visiting and home coaches for both JV and varsity to determine and to have the field administrator notify the officials. This will ALSO apply to JV games being delayed by weather.

This is incorrect. The rule for OT for JV games has not changed in years....

The Varsity game MUST start on time, whatever time that is. If the JV match is tied at the end of regulation, the officials will determine if the Varsity match can start on time or not. Note..this is not warmup, captain meeting, and coin toss.

Meaning the kickoff must start on time. The rules also state that a coin toss shall happen no later than 5 minutes before the start of a match.

So if you have a 5:30/7:00 pm match, if the JV is tied at 6:45 or later the match is over, anything before that (ie 6:30-6:45) is cutting it close. The referees also may also elect not to do the kicks from the mark if that would put the start time over as well.

This is what I've been told. Regardless of anything, the varsity game is top priority & must start on time. If JV can't fit OT or Pks then the game ends in a tie.
