2017 NIKE Palmetto Cup

When: 2017 dates are April 10-13 (Easter Sunday is April 16)

Where: Cayce, South Carolina

Who: All HS varsity teams are welcome to participate, but we plan to field a 16-team tourney.

Cost: $425 per team, plus each team is required to purchase a minimum of 18 dri-fit shirts at $15 per shirt. Shirt order form is due March 8, 2017.

Baseball, soccer events will feature top Midlands teams

The Nike Palmetto Cup at Brookland-Cayce is in its 24th year and features some of the top boys soccer teams in South Carolina. Seven teams are ranked in the latest S.C. Soccer Coaches polls, including defending champion Wando, which is ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Super 25 poll.

Midlands teams in the event are host B-C, A.C. Flora, Lexington and Cardinal Newman. The tournament begins Monday and wraps up Thursday.

Congratulations to Wando for their fifth tournament title in six seasons as the Warriors edged a tough Clover side, 1-0, in the Championship of the 2017 NIKE Palmetto Cup hosted by Brookland-Cayce High School.

Wando, ranked #1 nationally, is now 16-0 and motored through the four-day event in a methodical fashion with wins vs. Immaculate Conception Academy of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico (2-0), Fort Mill (5-1), Cardinal Newman (3-1), South Aiken (6-0), and Clover (1-0). Forward Charlie Marino, a Junior, was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.

South Aiken won its group with a 2-0-1 mark before falling to the perennial soccer power, Wando.

Clover reached the Finals with a pair of second-half goals that propelled the Blue Eagles to a 2-0 victory vs. host B-C, which advanced to the NPC Semifinals for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. Clover enjoyed its best NPC ever in six trips to the tournament.
