During a good game with good teams such as Socastee and Aiken and South Aiken. About how many shots on average does the keeper see in a low scoring good game??

That's a good question. I don't know.

I'd say about 7 or 8 on frame in a good evenly matched game between 2 good teams.

In games that my team and I where closely matched against, this season, the lowest amount of shots I saw was 18. However, we are no Socastee, Aiken, nor South Aiken by any means at all.

so you were closely matched... meaning even skill, possession, and shots... and the lowest amount of shots you saw was 18?

Wow.

Shots and shots on goal are two different things. Against South Aiken, Calder probably saw 8-10 shots, but only made 3-5 saves. Against Greenwood tonight, they probably had 10-12 shots, but Calder only had 3 or 4 saves because most of the shots were from bad angles and/or had no chance of going in. So on average, against good teams, you'd probably see 4 or 5 real scoring chances per team, and around 10-12 shots per team. That's my 2 cents.

Excuse me 18 shots on goal. In the game I had 17 saves and allowed 1 goal. Keep in mind I'm not proclaiming to be the best keeper around, nor even a decent one, nor am I saying I have the best guys in the state in front of me. We are playing to win like everyone else. And I'm doing what I can to keep us in the game.

That's a very low amount of saves. Compared to what I see in a given game.

That's a very HIGH amount for most. Calder had 23 saves against Dorman in the playoffs last year, and that was by far the most I've ever seen. If you're making 20 saves a game, then you don't need to say anything, because it's pretty obvious that the guys in front of you are having some trouble.

On average in any level of soccer the average is seven shots for every goal scored on you

as a striker i may say that when we play an even matched team i alone take at least 2-5 shots on goal (3-5 shots not on goal, so a total of maybe 5-10 shots). so its guessing that if the other forward does as well and add in a couple from midfield and i would estimate a total of about 10 good shots on goal.(mind you this is just an estimate)

I think my shots to goals allowed is like 13 shots to 1 goal.
Lincoln Yellow Jacket, it was saves, not just picking up the ball.

im pretty sure in caulder's 23 saves they didnt count him picking up the ball..i was not there but i herd from there coach David Meyers he had one hell of a game

Agreed.

And DMB, are you questioning my abilities? Really though, they were all saves. And while I didn't see Carlisle's performance against Irmo in the championship game, I tend to think that that(Calder's) was the most impressive game by any goalie around the state last season. By far the best that I saw, though his performance against NW was no let down, either.

No my season low isn't 18, just in a game where we play a team that would be a good even match up. My season low is 0, my season high is 25, the 25 save game went into PKs and I stopped 4 PKs, including 1 in regulation.

What is the point of this post? I'm beginning to think just so you can show off your stat sheet.

Some of you guys from Aiken need to ask Calder to marry you or something.

Not at all, I was just curious as to how many saves most keepers make in a game. I'm not that kind of player. But I got my answer.

Most all of the close games I see have about 5-10 saves for the keeper. If that. Usually, if you are making close to 20 saves a game then the defense is lousy and the keeper is giving up several goals per game. Evenm if he is an outstanding keeper. You can have the best keeper in the state and if the defense is lousy it won't make much of a difference. If you are getting 18 shots as a minimum, and they are legit shots, and you are giving up very few goals a game, then you are probably better than what you think.

If you make 18+ saves in a game, its not evenly matched.
