OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! NN FIANLLY gets their shot at IRMO!!!!! Chapin gets the EASIEST draw out of this....Good tourney should be a few good matches out of it. I don't see Dreher or Ben Lippen winning any games at theLake this year.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/17/05 08:23 PM
Who is Norman North? Are they from another state?
Posted By: Hurst66 Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/17/05 08:26 PM
Defending champs from OK.
Posted By: Kyle Heise Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/17/05 08:58 PM
Norman North, from Norman, Oklahoma, did not win the State Championship this past spring, but is annually one of the top teams in the Sooner State.

Looks like a very good tournament field at the LMC.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/17/05 09:49 PM
Your right, it looks like a great tournament
Posted By: 2004striker Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/17/05 09:57 PM
Poor Dreher has no chance in that bracket. That bracket also has too many strong teams. A more balanced bracket would have either NN, NW or Irmo in A Group, with NA in C.
Posted By: CornerFlag Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/17/05 10:57 PM
I like Eastside in A, a team that beings with "D" in B, and Northwestern in C.

Dreher drew the short straw.
Posted By: 2004striker Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/17/05 11:12 PM
No matter what happens with Dreher, one of those other 3 powers in Group C should be in another group.

looking at the field this looks to be the most competetive high school pre season tournament in south carolina i have ever seen...group c looks to be the group of death...how are irmo, nn, nw, and dreher looking and what about eastside and dutch fork in the other groups

Shearer,
I downloaded an application, filled it out and sent it in for you. You should be receiving a contact from the facility soon. Good Luck!

Posted By: benp Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/18/05 12:12 AM
ouch, Dreher certainly does have it tough, and i think it is eastside that gets the easy group, not Chapin. I think Norman North and Dutch Fork will meet for the final, but you can bet I'll be high tailing it over from Dutch Fork to see the Norman North-Irmo game. Shearer, why no faith in the Falcons? They have won a game in the past two lake murray challenges, and have been highly competitive in each of their 6 games.

Infamous........Not to offend you....but BL just cant keep up with those guys....I do see you and CN as the favorites for SCISA....That is if The new coach can adapt to CN kids.

Man where have I been, did CN get a new coach?
Posted By: benp Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/18/05 05:23 AM
None taken Shearer. But (in my opinion) they can. 2 years ago, 2-0 loss to Dorman, 0-0 at half time, game could have gone either way (i am told though i wasn't there). 1-0 dreher off an ugly goal, neither team played well due to the heavy wind. 3-2 win over AC Flora. Last year, hard fought 2-1 loss to Chapin, another hard fought loss to NA 2-1 where Ben Lippen went down 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the game off some poor decisions by players that didn't end up playing defense when the full roster showed up. 3-2 win over TL Hanna. 6 LMC games, 6 close matches. Be prepared for 3 more close games, maybe this year Ben Lippen will win more than one. And If Dreher and Ben Lippen do poorly, they will likely meet in the consolation game, so someone will probably win one.
Posted By: Kyle Heise Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/18/05 11:55 AM
I have a feeling that Norman North and Irmo were paired together on the first date, because the Timberwolves have been to Columbia four times to participate in the Palmetto Cup and one of the teams that NN has wanted to play is Irmo.

But, since the Yellow Jackets opt to not play in a tournament during Spring Break, NN has never had the opportunity outside of their other trip to the Capital City in which Irmo downed Norman North 2-0 or 3-0 in 1998 in a preseason tourney hosted by Dutch Fork.

Norman North has posted a 15-1-2 record in the Palmetto Cup and won the tournament three out of four times since 2000. Bishop England is the only team to have beaten the Timberwolves (3-2 in 2002) and Brookland-Cayce (0-0 in 2002) and Hilton Head (3-3 in 2005) earned draws vs. Norman North.
Posted By: Bear Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/18/05 12:17 PM
Shearer,

I almost hate to do this, but I must ask, how does the two time defending State Champion not show up as a favorite in SCISA? I know, like someone else has said from Columbia, (CAPN Walt I think) they don't see Pinewood players before the season. Well, if you want to see the Pinewood players, watch Bridge FA 88 Gold, Bridge FA 88 Red, Bridge FA 89 Gold, Bridge FA 90 Gold, Bridge FA 90 Red, CUSC Thunder, SSC 89 Blue, and SSC 89 White.

Last year Pinewood was accused of flying under the radar, I think it was Bdad11 that put that one in there. Now back into stealth mode.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/18/05 01:02 PM
Bear,

So does PP have a player on each team? I think CN will win it......BL/PP/PG/HH all have a shot....just how I see it....

Cheers
Posted By: BDad11 Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/18/05 01:33 PM
Bear, I wouldn't call "flying under the radar" an accusation. That has a negative connotion. At the time I meant Pinewood was not getting talked about on the SCISA board and were quietly playing very good soccer and would be a factor come May. Pinewood will most likely be better this year with the number of returning players they have. In my eyes Pinewood is a strong favorite this year. My only regret was last year saying CN was the only SCISA team capable of playing in Mr Heise's tournament. Obviously Pinewood would have acquited themselves well in that tournament.

The SCISA posters on this board are almost entirely from Columbia. Therefore the lowerstate teams don't get mentioned as much as they should.

another irmo vs northwestern game..seems like its turning into some sort of rivalry..besides the irmo vs nn game everyone wants to see...i would not want to miss irmo vs nw or nn vs nw...
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/18/05 11:19 PM
WOW

I would like to know who was the brains behind this tourney scheduling...

3 of the top 4 teams in one bracket? And nice losers bracket A so someone ELSE has a chance to win?

Irmo or NW should have been in the A bracket...
Posted By: Bear Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/19/05 12:54 AM
Bdad, poor choice of words. Under the radar definitely is not a bad thing. Your right about the Columbia posters. I've noticed that.

Shearer, returning and/or potential starters, save 1 are on the teams mentioned. Naturally too soon to predict that. Other players that could/should move up are also within these teams.
Posted By: Midlandsoccer17 Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/19/05 01:40 AM
I think ranking and grouping the teams by last years power ranking is a good theory, but doesn't always work out. You say that the three top teams are in one bracket, but thats looking at last years teams. A lot of teams could be very different this year. Irmo, for instance, lost 13 seniors and like 8 starters. I know they don't rebuild, they reload, but that's still a difficult task for any team to come back from. Obviously it is still the strongest group by far, but not to the extent that everyone is saying.
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/19/05 12:46 PM
I think that DF will probably take the tourney this year. Irmo is not going to be as strong as in past years. They will be good, but not strong. DF is going to crush some people this year. The NN Irmo game will be a good game. NN wants some revenge for their loss to them a few years back. I think I might have to fly down to watch some of this tournament. Has anyone heard about the squad that NN is possibly going to bring? Did they lose many people last year?

Posted By: 2004striker Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/19/05 01:00 PM
If I recall from last year, NN was very young so they probably have a number of players back this year. Here is NN website, with a pic from last year's championship at BC. It may be noted that they actually can begin practice on Nov. 1, whereas, SC teams can begin, I believe in January. Someone correct me on the SC start date.

Be forewarned! The coordinates are locked in on Lugoof-Elgin. Mother world will destroy all citizens in Lugoof-Elgin on Oct. 30.
(A video tape will soon follow).

Cokefan,
OK, I now see the connection in the transfer of the substances is between little soccerboy and LEdudeman. But even in my dullness, I can venture to say the illegal substances are hidden in a large slab of Wisconsin cheddar.

Oh, I'll bring some cheese! It's been fun up here...the HS season is coming to a close pretty soon. I have been doing quite a few club tournaments lately. I refereed a team from OH the other day that was pretty good. (U14G) Most of the teams up here are OK, but there are very few that are really quite good. This U17G team from Appleton was pretty darned good, had a 6'1" girl that was their sweeper. They won the tourny. It just sucks reffing iin long sleeves and pants....it is fricken cold some days already!

What kind of cheese do you want Jack?
Posted By: 2004striker Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/19/05 06:17 PM
Now I see why little soccerboy won the PLC last season. He is LE's connection. And the type of illegal substance to be transfered depends on what type cheese Jack chooses? I need to get that info to Columbo stat.
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/19/05 07:26 PM
Nice.....I would "recommend" the colby jack cheese.......
Posted By: benp Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/19/05 08:09 PM
Even if Norman North graduated alot of talent (which I'm not sure about). They "reload" like Irmo does. I seem to remember their coach saying that there are over 100 people at tryouts year in and year out there. I agree that Dutch Fork has a good shot at the tourney. They are my pick for 4a this year (but that is based soley on the columbia area teams and what little I've seen from the upperstate and charleston area).

Folks,

Remember.... NW hasn't had to reload from last year, they are the same team as last year.

They only lost one senior starter from the club that went 25-2

So there's your Upperstate quantified...
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/27/05 02:29 PM
They lost 3 seniors but only one starter.

All were significant. Actually, they return a top defender that was out all year since the Lake Murray Tourney and also return another offensive player that was out all year with a leg injury.

And when you go from a 3 senior led team to a 14 senior led team, your looking at a very experienced bunch.

Back to topic, I think Dutch Fork will win the tournament. They have everybody back, I think, and a very good player in the cates kid. While NN will certainly be a favorite, I am going with the hometown team.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 04:39 AM
What no guess to the riddle pretty ricky???

Good call on DF but I think NN takes them. I think it will be NN vs DF in the final....I have NN taking it. they play about as direct as a team can play while keeping the ball. They have GREAT team speed and on a bigger field(unlike The Cage/Palmetto Cup) they will be able to run.

Their outside mids will be the differnce.

Posted By: CornerFlag Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/27/05 05:14 PM
I really hate to sound like lowvolt here, but NW does return basically all of their team, and they were a very strong team last year. On top of that, they gain a strong player in Martinez, who (although young) is a Region 3 team player. It would be hard for any coach to misfire with this team.

I'll go with NW over DF for the LMC AND the 4A state championship.
Posted By: CornerFlag Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/27/05 05:19 PM
Oh, and by the way Shearer, you remind me of my wife when I ask a question to my kids to see if they understand something, and my wife answers it for them. I was really wondering if lowvolt would get the question because he sure wan't getting kickman's hints. I expect diehards like you to get the answer.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/27/05 05:26 PM
Corner....My bad. But to be honest that wasn't actually a "Chico" type riddle.....Enzo will have to adjust to the physical side of HS soccer. By mid year he could have an impact. Look for the "lil CM" to be a key for NW...I just don't see NN getting beat.....I just think DF plays too negative.

Northwestern has ducked alot of teams the past several years and beaten up on Gaffney and Clover and Rock Hill. They've gotten fat off of the poor. I don't see them doing much next year.

Posted By: CornerFlag Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 11:04 AM
NW lost only two games last year and they were to Eastside (3A state champs) and South Aiken (4A state champs). Outside of that they beat some pretty good teams along the way. That's not getting fat off the poor when you do that well year in and year out, which they have been doing.

arent gaffney and rock hill in nw's region? they cant really do anything about playing those games then can they?

Soccerboy, your post seems a little out of place. But, for whatever it is worth, I will see if I can measure up.

I can't understand why you would be concerned with my sexuality and/or self-esteem of which neither is of any consequence to you. As an aspiring teacher, don't you think you would benefit more from learning which grammatical situations require commas?

Stop waisting my time and concern yourself with balls and strikes. I bet you are not even pursuing the coaching profession - umpire right? Yeah, that is your favorite spot! You were probably a catcher in your "playa" days - seems to be the proper progression.

When your name evolves to "soccerman" holla back at me.

Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 05:26 PM
Oh, to finish answering your question/attempted personal attack. I usually played center field, but was sometimes moved to play left field or 2nd base. There is no way that I would ever want to be a baseball umpire. As it pertains to my coaching, yes I plan on coaching when I finish my degree. In fact, it looks like I will be able to be an assistant coach for a HS soccer team in Illinois this spring. That should be pretty fun, and hopefully I will learn a lot from that experience. I think that about sums up what you asked me.

Also, for what it is worth, where I placed a comma in my first post is an acceptable place to put one.

From the looks of it, you enjoy riding a bike, too, huh? Wait, I bet you really enjoy the unicycle!! That is the hardest one to ride!

Nice try chump. If you wanted to know the reason for my name, all you had to do was ask. You were trying to be a wise a@#, but you met your match here.

Tool.

pretty

you are pretty cold. dont think he will be back on now
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:03 PM
Don't think I will be back on now? Look at how many posts I have.....you guys are new here, you don't know me very well I take it. prettyricky remind me of headstrongDO....lots of talk. That's fine, I can handle it. Oh yeah, bring on the unicycle, sounds like fun. Maybe you should have said it was a unicycle without a seat...wow...that may have been more amusing. I'm not in the mood to get into sophmoric banter, so I guess I will end this post.

As for the LMC, I have heard a rumor that Irmo is getting a new keeper that is transferring into the district. Is there any weight to that rumor? Could that be the piece that Irmo needs to put together another good run this year?

Soccerboy, let's rewind this a minute. Who called who out? You did. So, don't put me out there as someone who is talking crap. You called me out and then backpeddled when I defended myself. Wanker.
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:13 PM
I was poking a little fun at you...don't take me so seriously all the time. Calm down pretty....by the way, I take it you changed your name recently?
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:16 PM
By the way, how did I backpedal? I still think the name prettyricky is gay. Reminds me of a ricky martin wanna-be.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:21 PM
WOW...youtwo guys are getting to be like Shearer and 2004Striker.

Pretty you did jump back pretty harshly.
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:30 PM
Sorry Kickman, didn't mean to dilute the thread.
Posted By: pretty ricky Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:37 PM
Ok, Soccerboy, what gives? You just want to sit there and call my name gay? Or do you have something serious to discuss? Would you like to discuss soccer?
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:50 PM
Like I said before, has anyone heard anything about a really good goalie moving into the Irmo area? That could have an effect on the Lake Murray Challenge. I think that DF is going to be very strong this year, so they could do very well at the LMC. I take it by what some people are saying that NW is still going to be good this year. Wasn't Dorman really young but good last year? Don't they stand to do pretty well at this tournament also? Anyone have any information on Dorman?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 06:57 PM
Do you have any idea where he might be from? Typical the rich get richer!!!
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 07:21 PM
I think he is from Ohio, but don't quote me....
Posted By: joeygeo Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 10/28/05 07:51 PM
Dorman has a lot of talent and will contend for the upperstate championship, but I don't think that they will have the horses to beat NW.

I'm back....

Ok, who said what!?

The only TEAM that can stop Norman North is HILTON HEAD

And what overwhelming evidence do you have to support this conclusion?
Posted By: James Gray Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 11/01/05 07:30 PM
I'm with cornerflag on this one. I have to go with DF or Irmo having the possibility of beating NN. HIlton Head is good, but are they that good?
Posted By: CornerFlag Re: Lake Murray Challenge Brackets - 11/01/05 08:53 PM
Soccerboy and Cornerflag agree? What is the world coming to.

SB: along with DF and Irmo, I'll put NW and Dorman ahead of HH until someone proves otherwise.

Might as well stop all the predictions now and end this post!

John Kerr, Sr. Johnny Kerr's (Harvard) father.

My guess is this person posted it because the Seahawks and Timberwolves tied 3-3 at the 2005 Palmetto Cup -- Norman North's only blemish en route to the tournament title. However, Hilton Head will not be participating in a preseason tourney, so it's a moot point!

I'm looking forward to Dreher's team this year. They should have the pieces in place for a region title and a shot at the State Championship. Any word on what those guys have done this fall?
