predictions?
Posted By: jon burns Re: 3/07 games - 03/05/06 12:54 AM
thats a bold prediction on the irmo lex game, but i think they can pull it out
Posted By: benp Re: 3/07 games - 03/05/06 05:42 AM
Even Bolder on the Ridgeview game. Lexington is playing good soccer right now. So is Chapin but Ridgeview even at their best isn't 3 goals better than Chapin. Look for Chapin to win that one by 1 or 2. But these games aren't untill next week!

Porter-Gaud vs. Lincoln High
Posted By: LF Re: 3/07 games - 03/05/06 11:10 PM
Correction benp, the Lexington Girls play the Irmo girls THIS tuesday at 5:30 and then after that the Lexington boys play the Irmo boys at 7:00. Both the Girls and the Boys then play Dorman on Friday of this week. A couple of BIG games this week for both the Girls and Boys at Lexington. Hopefully they are both up for these games.
Posted By: benp Re: 3/07 games - 03/06/06 01:07 AM
The topic was started last week, so at that point, the games weren't until next (this) week, and normally we make our predictions the day of or the day before. But its not a big deal, and there is alot of talk about games this week already like eastside greenville and dutch fork irmo. Lexington irmo will be a big one.
Posted By: futballer117 Re: 3/07 games - 03/06/06 06:44 PM
I have to take Lincoln over Porter Gaud 2-1 even though I know very little about Porter Gaud
Posted By: benp Re: 3/07 games - 03/06/06 11:01 PM
Porter Gaud wins by 3 or more.
Posted By: futballer117 Re: 3/07 games - 03/06/06 11:56 PM
i dont think porter gaud will win by 3 or more if they do win it will be a good game either way both have talented teams

The people on this board are funny. Lexington squeaks by SA and RV and everyone is ready to say there better than us. Thats blastfamy. They have not beaten us since forever. This week will clear up whos which side of the dam is once again the way more overpowering team. See yall tomorow after another easy game. Were more ready to start playing the real teams like DF.

Maybe you can tell your GK not to toss the ball into the net this time off his chest like he did against Chapin, just a thought. [Roll Eyes] [Roll Eyes]

HAR! ..yeah..no amount of trashtalk can overshadow TWO bad keepers..
Posted By: CornerFlag Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 04:05 AM
I'm still trying to figure out what a dam has to do with anything.

We need to keep having him post. It's amusing, pathetic, and sad all at once.
Posted By: Coach Cady Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 04:25 AM
CornerFlag, while you were probably exuding sarcasm, some may not realize that the dam for Lake Murray is somewhat of a boundary between Lexington and Irmo. I'm sure my old friend Jack knew that (great job with the intramural info - BTW). But I have to agree with Lowerstate 4A, some posters do their school more disservice than service.
Posted By: CornerFlag Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 04:38 AM
Thanks Coach.

That explains the Dam comment, but it doesn't change my other statement.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 06:04 AM
Irmo never changes...i think its a side effect of all that damn die seeping into their brains. That kid is probably a freshman that doesnt even play or even better a JV benchwarmer. As much as I dislike Irmo, youll rarely see their quality starters talking mis-spelled trash talk on this board.
Posted By: statechamps Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 02:35 PM
we should win today if we play as a team

i predict lincoln 3-1 over PG
Posted By: Maximus Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 02:45 PM
Irmo definetly has the upperhand in the "battle of the dam" as yall say... whos ever heard of lexington being a dominant team? plus there goal keeper sucks
Posted By: Lowerstate4A Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 02:50 PM
and irmo's gk is quality?

Not even close! Nor is their backline!
Posted By: Irmostriker06 Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 03:03 PM
Ya Lex's keeper is almost as bad as ours.
Posted By: JP11 Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 03:07 PM
How can u say lexingtons keeper sucks. He is a stud. Hes just as good as the keeper they had last year. He made some huge saves in there win against SA. He might be the difference in the game tonight.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 03:18 PM
Not a chance he is a s good as the kid last year. no way.
Posted By: Lowerstate4A Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 03:50 PM
gotta go with Shearer on this one. He cannot be as good as Faulkner was
Posted By: JP11 Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 03:52 PM
Ok yall are entitled to your own opinions, but this guy is a stud.
Posted By: shut^&play Re: 3/07 games - 03/07/06 04:54 PM
He's probably better than Irmo's keeper(s). I'll give you that. Mayyyyyyybe not as good as Faulkner. Couldn't say for myself, but to be better than Irmo's keeper isn't saying much. When I think of him a giant Road Cone comes to mind.

Posted By: tigerman Re: 3/07 games - 03/08/06 01:15 AM
benp... jugle is NO GOOD. You are usually pretty good with the comments on the teams that you list but this was a big miss. He dribbles way too much and when he plays good teams get stuffed all over the field. He is a great 1v1 player against teams like lower richland and rne but, against a quality team he doesn't show much.

Scoring update ... Irmo scored about 15' into the first half on a great free kick by Alex Acree ... 10 minutes into the second half and the score remains Irmo 1-0 Lexington ... The Wildcats just hit the post on a header ... Brett Keatley is playing for Lexington ... More to come.
Posted By: 2004striker Re: 3/07 games - 03/08/06 01:27 AM
Oops sorry.
Thats Jugle 5 Tigerman 0.

Jugle is good he just isn't very strong and is easily stood up...if he gained a little weight and speed he would be great
Posted By: Kyle Heise Re: 3/07 games - 03/08/06 01:37 AM
Irmo 1-1 Lexington ... 19' left ... Brett Keatley took a free kick and the ball deflected off the wall back to his feet and he bulldozed towards the Irmo net for the equalizer.
Posted By: 2004striker Re: 3/07 games - 03/08/06 01:42 AM
I say again, Irmo must win by 3,4 goals or will have a bad to average season. They have not beaten a team with a winning record yet.

Can we make a rule that middle schoolers aren't allowed to post on scsoccer? That would get rid of both tigerman and 2004stroke...

FINAL SCORE -- #5 Lexington 2-1 PK (4-3) #9 Irmo.
Posted By: tigerman Re: 3/07 games - 03/08/06 02:38 AM
benp... I know that you like to do your research on teams from the state, but maybe before you make a comment you should do a little research on the people you are saying something about. All it took was a simple click on my name for you to realize that middle school is not possible for me. Having a birthday in 1986 pretty much counts me out of the middle school crowd. So from now on I think you should stick strictly to posting on teams, not people. That just happens to be where you go astray, the players. You seem to go only by the numbers that people put up and not by the way they play. So stick to the numbers and continue to do the good job you do with teams and rankings because don't get me wrong... I like to read your rankings from all classes.

good luck the rest of the season

NMB 4 v Marion 1
NMB got all they could handle out of a very hard playing Marion squad. The Chiefs went down 3 minutes into the match on a free kick just outside the box. Outstanding play by the Swampfoxes and their Keeper, kept them in the lead until the 58th minute of the match when the Chiefs finally got on the board and luckily came away with a win. Marion came to play hard soccer while NMB was thinking about what they needed to do to try and beat Socastee on Friday night. Great Job Swampfoxes and good luck winning your region, you are a much improved, hard working team that played with great skill and heart.

Maybe the people on this board will start giving Lexington the respect they deserve. And Irmostiker will finally shutup.
Posted By: Will Eudy Re: 3/07 games - 03/08/06 04:21 AM
Having been at the game to to be fair, both teams played well. Both teams had a chance to win in regulation. Jugal is a VERY good player w/ pace, moves and a knack for the game. Acree, Prince and Monroe were impressive as was #23 in the back.

For Lexington Keatly was the man. #2 Jess I think was on fire in the OT and #9 was a handful.

Great HS soccer match! Congrats to Coach Gettys and his Wildcats.

l-E vs. WKHS

L-E wins in 2nd half 3-2. Good morale booster since we dropped matches to Airport and RNE in the final ten minutes last week. Sweeper for WKHS, Donnie Coker, took on the entire field and scored. L-E got lucky considering that Kyle Paradise is still recovering from illness and injury. L-E goals by Emmanuel Silva (2)and Rico Cervantes.

Wren 5
Hanna 4
Ali(7) scored a goal,a freshman scored a goal remmy(5) scored a goal and one was scored of a PK. I dont know who assist all of them but ali assisted the freshman as well. Wren had Will Ayers score 3 goals, a freshman (Sean???)scored 2 and had Josh Browning assist 4 and Kevin Cawthon assist 1. both teams played really well. Wren had a couple of breakaways they should have finished but Hanna had to work for every one of theirs. Hanna scored well off set pieces however.

I think I know my players well enough. I still haven't looked at your profile...and I'm still not convinced.
Jugal is quite a player...and when you think about the fact that he has 2 more years and is already a top 5 player on the irmo squad, he is going to be sick. Cates vs. Jugal is going to be fun to watch in 2 years.

Well the Cates/Jugal match-up of super sophmores will have to wait a couple of weeks since he won't be playing this weekend. Word is out that he is out for 2 weeks or so from an mcl sprain against Brooklyn Cayce. This is just another example of good players getting hurt in high school due to the lack of talent all over the field. I am not saying that the person who hurt him meant to but it happpens way too much to just be accidents all the time. Many teams have trouble fielding a full squad and football players end up on the field to fulfill the position requirements and to keep in shape.
Posted By: Jack Rozier Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:19 AM
I understand what you're saying. But this was against BC..injuries happen. Very unfortunate though.
Posted By: tigerman Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:22 AM
I said that this may not have been the case because bc usually is able to field a full team of soccer players instead of football players. Kyle puts together a competitive squad almost every year which means he is probably not putting many football playesr on it.

tigerman -- first off, it's Brookland-Cayce.

I spoke with Danny Cates after Dutch Fork's 3-2 penalty kick victory on March 2 and was not aware of any injury he had suffered during the match. He even took the Silver Foxes' fifth PK during the shootout.

As for football players playing on the boys soccer team, then I am happy to say that goalkeeper JC Gypin, defender Les Sonefeld, midfielder/defender Blake Hinton, and midfielder/defender Andrew Richardson all played played varsity football for the Bearcats in 2005. In fact, Gypin has missed the entire soccer season in 2006 due to wrestling commitments and a separated shoulder (due to football/wrestling injuries) suffered against DF in the PK Shootout.

I really don't think you know what you are talking about, especially since Vanderbilt-bound Stephen Goulet and defender Kip Ammaker are standouts for the DFHS boys soccer team.
Posted By: Kyle Heise Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:27 AM
tigerman -- now I really know you don't know what you are talking about. My brother, Kevin, is the boys soccer coach at Brookland-Cayce High School and has been there since 1991. I'm on the staff, but it is his team!
Posted By: tigerman Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:31 AM
Kyle, I just said that I didn't think that you put many football players on your team. By football players I mean players who play football first. In the refrence to Stephen Goulet and Kip Ammaker, Stephen struggles on the soccer field due to the lack of practice in the fall... he makes up for that with his athletic ability. Kip on the other hand is probably one of the most athletic kids in the state. He however has always been a soccer player and is a soccer player first. However, he also struggles with some of the ball control on the soccer field due to the lack of practice in the fall. As for Danny taking the penalty kick and still playing... I know him and I know that he will play through anything. He was going to play this Friday through the pain after he passed his running test yesturday with the trainer at DF. However... with a little tenderness in the knee, the trainer decided to keep him out of the game so that he does not injure it anymore.
Posted By: tigerman Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:33 AM
I just knew that you were on the team... I played y'all many times and y'all were both ALWAYS there. Sorry if I didn't pay attention to who the head coach and assistants were. All I know is that you and him were always at the games when I played. So the correction would be that I think that Kevin puts together a good team every year.
Posted By: RCates Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:34 AM
That would be Kevin (with help from Kyle) and they do put together a quality side year in and year out. What happened to Danny was pure bad luck. He and a BC player were working for the ball and the BC player stepped on his ankle with his leg in a bad position. I feel sure that the BC player didn't even know it happened. Danny got up limping. Came off to have it checked and played the second half. Soreness and swelling that night and the next morning prompted the unwelcome visit to the ortho. The tenderness has not at this point subsided and there is no need to jeopardize the rest of the season for one game. I applaud the trainer and the head coach for putting Danny's welfair before one game (not that I would doubt that). Danny was sure he could work hard enough in rehab to get back but it didn't work out. Good luck to Dutch Fork this weekend, they have all the tools. Go Foxes.
Posted By: Kevin Heise Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:37 AM
I'm sorry to learn of Danny's injury. This is the first that I've heard of it. I know that he is in good hands with the best athletics trainer in the business in Mack Harvey!

Our goalkeeper, JC Gypin, was making his first debut after one day of practice in the net and separated his shoulder twice during the PK shootout and Coach Harvey tended to his injury in first-class fashion.

I know that Coach Quinlan knows that I wish he and the Silver Foxes the very best in 2006 and that they are a classy and hard-working team!
Posted By: Will Eudy Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 02:51 AM
Tigerman,

BROOK LAND CAYCE! Second, I was at the BC DF game and for you to assume Danny got hurt simply b/c it was a HS game is moronic. Plain and simple. Danny had a great match. I watched the Irmo/Lex game last night w/ Coach Quinlan and he told me of the injury and even he stated that it was a common soccer injury. Two guys went for a ball and a "twitch/turn" happened and he picked up a knock. Coach Q was under the impression that he might be back for Irmo. I guess not which sucks for him.

For you to come out and think a kid does not get "hacked" in club ball points out the fact that you are a "clubber" and probably were not tough enough to make it thru a HS season. Shame on you for getting on a HS message board to "bash" the HS game. Go ask Danny, Jamal, Zach, Andrew, Nathan, Steven, Kip or any other HS Sr what the HS game means and I guarantee they will tell HS means more to them than U18 club!

Sorry Tiger but you are way out of line.
Posted By: benp Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 05:14 AM
Tigerman...Kipp Amaker is a good defender with a knack for winning the ball. However, when you talk about players getting hurt in soccer due to football mentality coming out in high school soccer. Kip is excactly what you are talking about. He plays physical soccer (which I have no problem with) but its a different brand of physical soccer than that which is played on top flight club teams.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had the feeling Tigerman didn't know what he was talking about.
Posted By: Jack Rozier Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 06:43 AM
I second the Kip Amaker notion.. he may be a great athlete..but he is FAR from a "skilled defender"...in my opinion.

He has a "knack for winning the ball" as was said earlier..but blunt force doesn't translate to skill in my books.

Someone like Kip is just as dangerous as any "hack" out there. Note: not saying he IS a hack. But basically..your theory is full of holes tigerman.

Posted By: scsoccer18 Re: 3/07 games - 03/09/06 12:08 PM
except i do think that he has more skill than people might give him credit, it is just sometimes more difficult to notice because his 'blunt force' sometimes overshadows.

This is our first season in 4-A High School soccer after many years in club (Challenge level) and SCISA. The big difference is the intensity. We have had 4 games since Feb. 28 against Wando, James Island, Stratford, & West Ashley. All of these teams are loaded with quality club players. Play in these games was extremely fast and physical. Teams practice every day they are not playing. Club ball usually includes 8-9 league games and 2-3 tournaments with practice twice a week over 3-4 months. Your kids had better be in shape and you need some depth on your team to survive a high school season. Last year we had a kid come over from the football team to anchor our defense after a 2-3 year layoff from soccer and he did very well toward the end of the season- but he was also a great athlete. There will always be a place on the soccer field for excellent athletes at the high school level, no matter their sport of first choice. Fortunately, more are choosing soccer every year and that trend will continue.
