Very good game, hard play for 80 minutes. Lexington scored both on second half set pieces. Their keeper made great saves on our chances. They are a very classy bunch and we wish them the best of luck as they move on. Great coaches and good kids they have a chance to make some real noise against Northwestern. A great keeper can be a difference maker.

Goals: Palmetto - #8 D. Mahaffey (2), #1 F. Ignacio, #17 M. Beltran
Assists: Palmetto - #9 T. Bowman, #14 M. Roberts, #17 M. Beltran

Palmetto came out a little sluggish, but controlled the first half. Numerous shots on goal that were off target. With a missed PK and only one goal scored, Palmetto went to half up 1-0.
Second half was very rough, but again Palmetto controlled the match. Three second half goals put it away early. The Mustangs were able to sub frequently and get some playoff playing time for everyone.

Once again this year, as they did last year,a Broome player had to embarass the whole program by showing no class. When yellow carded for repeated and blatant fouls, #12 faced the Palmetto fans and gave them a big double barrelled bird. He was then red carded and left the playing field. Last year the goalie did the same thing but added a crotch grab. It is a shame that the rest of the team who played a good game will be remembered for this and not the game.

Are you kidding me? As a coach, that's what you're claiming is the only thing you're going to remember. The way I see it, a whole let less people would "remember" anything if you didn't post it on the message board. If you really thought the majority of the players did a great job and "it's sad" for the rest of the team to be remembered that way, then you shouldn't have brought it up. I guess I expect comments like that from a fan, but not a coach.

#1 - If you will look at the original post - score and details - - - I never brought up the cards or the incident. A "fan" brought up the issue in a later post. I responded to that post by adding that I thought the rest of the team played well and deserved better.
#2 - Your "assumption" that I am a coach does exactly what we always said assumptions do.
#3 - We have played Broome the past six years straight and have had an incident involving them in every single match - - - never have I commented on them negatively. Just guess that we come to that match sort of waiting for the next player to make a spectacle. Their program used to be competitive and it was close matches. Since the incidents have increased and gotten worse - their program is going the wrong direction. I think the assessment was legit. The program is known now (at least to some who are familiar with it) by its antics, not its play.

Regarding Palmetto vs. Broome;

I was at the playoff game last year between these two. The incident as described above is partly fiction. Broome's GK was red carded. I spoke with him after the game and he told me what happened. It was not for anything that was mentioned above and I didn't see him make that type of gesture.

If we are going to call out each other's programs, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that several of the fans from Palmetto were not only obnoxious to both Broome's players and fans but also lacked basic self control (and I'm not talking about regular fan heckling). This was made worse by the fact that Palmetto did not have any law enforcement personnel present to keep control of the situation. Without this presence a situation after the game was allowed to build until the Broome team and fans feared for their safety. I witnessed a large group of fans (and some members of the team) from Palmetto surround the Broome team as they attempted to board the bus and continue to jeer and heckle in an attempt to gain a response. The Broome players and some of the fans (including older family members who only came by to speak to their sons/grandsons) were threatened and asked by several of the "best" Palmetto High School's student body had to offer to stop by the local McDonald's to settle things in a physical manner. I understand how these young "men" might have thought that was the only resolution open to them. I was young once too and have been involved in similar situations. But what I didn’t agree with was the adults (both male and female) from Palmetto goading them on and offering to back them up if needed. Overall I was disappointed in the lack of control shown by some of the Palmetto team, some of its fans and most of its athletic department (none of the coaches would even admit that anything had happened or do anything to stop it). The only voice of reason from Palmetto was one of the members of the team who wrote on this board after the game how he understood it was what it was...a hard fought playoff game that the refs allowed to get too physical (on both sides). If Broome's #12 did what you said he did last night (I wasn't there this time because I actually feared for my family's safety), he was punished correctly by receiving yellow then red cards. That is what they are for. If you want to chastise a kid for making a dumb mistake (in his last soccer game, since he is a senior) then you need to chastise all of them (including members of your own team such as your GK from last year that was red carded for punching another player). Soccer is an emotional game. The players and fans both can allow that emotion to consume them and cause them to do things they will regret later. But, we as adults need to try everything to prevent that from happening.

Lastly, I don't agree with questioning the class of any school's program. You don't know the kids or the coaches from Broome just like I don't know the ones from Palmetto. A lot of these kids are good atheletes, students and role models that happen to be young, male and human. If we can't accept the fact that our own team's members are capable of making the same mistakes and lapses in judgment, then we are living in a fantasy world. It's how we as adults handle ourselves after the fact (and show these young men how to handle themselves) that is truly important. And questioning the class of another program on a message board while hiding behind an alias (whether intentional or not) is not the way to do it.
Congrats to B-L, solid coach, players, and program. Score was 2-0 at the half off of two goals the result of crashing the net hard. Third goal scored with just over 10 minutes remaining in the gamee and was one of the prettiest goals I've seen all season, my hats off to #5 on that one. Fourth goal in stoppage time. I'd say we (Pendleton) showed well for a #14 seed. My only regret is that we let games slip away during the season that resulted in such a tough 1st round opponent. Not sure what ??? would classify as doing work but I think we handled ourselves quite well.

i see your wando fan
I think the playoff brackets need to be revamped. It's ridiculous that Eastside is having to play another region opponent, JL Mann, in the 2nd Round. That means two of the better AAA teams will be home watching the rest of the tourney. Ridiculous!
justen is it? you sir are an idot sir.
This is Justen this time. I didn't post earlier. A friend in my computer class did and I wasn't thinking clearly and let him go ahead. I got to school late today and everyone knew already. I want to tell the story straight. I was pushed into the goal and kick, so i wrapped the guys legs up. The player was taken to the ground and i did get him then. The red was not worth it. I let down all of my players and especially the seniors. I also blew the chance of winning the game. People have been bragging about the fight and I think that is something to be shameful off. It was not professional whatsoever. So again I apologize and want to say great season BLAZERS! We can get them next year.

Thursday, May 8, 6:00 PM at Palmetto

Goals: Palmetto - #8 D. Mahaffey (2), #4 J. Davenport, #14 M. Roberts
Assists: #9 T. Bowman (3)

That's Using Your Heads:
Palmetto came out playing much more aggressively for this second round match-up. They controlled the ball and the temperament of the match. With beautiful corners and crosses by Wing Trey Bowman, three different Mustangs headed in goals. With the one additional goal off the foot, Palmetto took a decisive 4-0 lead at half.
The second half saw the Mustangs play ball possession and control. This allowed them also to sub frequently and rest many players. On a hot and muggy night, this was needed.
Gilbert played very good ball - but were just overmatched. #9 and #12 showed some really good soccer skills, and #4 was very good defensively as he marked our leading playmaker the second half and held him in check.
It was nice to see Palmetto play with their heads - both literally and figuratively, as they played really smart soccer tonight. With our leading scorer out, it was nice to see great passing and many others step up their game.

Overall good game. Northwestern dominated from start to finish but Lexington outplayed them for a stretch in the second half.

Northwestern scored 6 minutes into the game and never looked back after that.

I will say that Tanner Osbourne is an excellent goalkeeper. He did not play his best game today but was still top notch. He is a very classy young man and I wish him and the whole Lexington squad the best of luck next year.

Irmo 6 - Spartanburg 3

Spartanburg was awarded a PK in the first minute and the Irmo keeper was given a red card. Spartanburg capitalized on the PK and went up 1-0. They had another goal on a flick from a long throw and a third goal on a great individual run and some lazy defending. Irmo was down 3-0 with about 15 minutes left in the first half. The Irmo boys never gave up and pulled one goal back with 4 minutes to go in the half. The got a second one back with only about 2 left and the half ended 3-2. At that point you could definitely feel the momentum shift Irmo's way and Spartanburg was on their heels from then on out. Irmo went on to score 4 more goals in the second half, all a man down. The 6th and final goal was one of the dirtiest goals I've seen in a long time. Taylor Varney froze two defenders in the box, making them both dive to the ground after faking the shot and came to the keeper and made him dive to the ground after faking the shot for the third time before cooly tapping it in the back of the net. The Irmo boys showed a great deal of poise and determination to pull themselves out of a 3-0 hole with only 10 men. GOOD LUCK!!!

Amazing that the best team (Chapin) has to travel for this round. Stupid brackets.

Each year the SC High School league rotates which Region champion would be the host team if two were to advance and play each other. A higher seed would always host, but if two #1's play, one year it would be in the Midlands and the next it would be on the coast (or wherever). In addition, it would be a logistical nightmare to have matches played on different nights. I assure you, many of us would also like the opportunity to attend more than one match!
fun night at bc. we played hard and showed pretty well i thought. neat place to play - almost like a rock concert. good job by my boys and i'm proud of st. james. we'll get all of them next year but for now it's waves and women!
WISH WACCAMAW GOOD LUCK THRU THE PLAYOFFS. BEN RUNS A GOOD PROGRAM AND IT WAS A GOOD MATCH FOR WADE HAMPTON TO BE IN.
HOPE TO SEE THEM AGAIN IN THE FUTURE
WACCAMAW 3 WADE HAMPTON 0
Dreher 1 Wade Hampton 0

Great game by both teams hard fought from start to finish. Dreher had more of the overall momentum but Wade Hampton was able to hang tough for most of the game. Byron scored from the half field line at the beginning of the second half but the goal was called back because of one of his team mates being across the line too early. hate to be that kid after that. the dreher goal came right at the end of regulation from a hard fought run by justin parker.

Dreher riverside re match is on... should be a fun game
i think Riverside will take Dreher.
