Cogratulations Eau Claire! That is great and I am sure the girls were excited.
This could not have happened to a more deserving group of young ladies. They won over a lot of fans this past weekend at the LBI at Brookland Cayce. Even though they did not win a game or even score a goal, they never quit trying, never argued among themselves, and displayed good sportsmanship throughout the tournament (several times they helped up an opponent after they were knocked down). Keep up the hard work and keep enjoying the game. Congratulations on the victory and best of luck the remainder of your season.

I really wish Region VI would provide these girls with a challenge. These blowouts doesn't do anything in prepartion for the playoffs or the development of the girls.

Yeah, I know...she still has a lot of growing room! Very talented athlete--nobody else we've met all year has sliced through our defense and made it look that easy. I think she is going to make quite a name for herself in her career!
(She also represents the first time I've thrown my hat in pure frustration all year--another significant notch in her freshman belt.)

7. If an official fails to keep an assignment, the official will pay the home school the game fee.

I cannot imagine why an offical would not keep an assingment after confirming. Furthermore, for the reasons I can think of for not showing, I certainly hope the official is okay.

The game was not a very good called game on both sides. However, by far not the worst I have had this year.
Good luck down the stretch Coach. Your girls played hard and you are doing an impeccable job!

If you play in a weak region then schedule harder out of region matches. Myrtle Beach, Waccamaw, Spring Valley are all quality sides and participation in the airport tournament will help, but all out of region games should probably be scheduled with the intent of playing playoff caliber teams.
I agree....our region at Barnwell is not very tough...therefore I try to schedule my out of conference games against teams that are ranked in 2A or 3A...I want my team to get some competition so that they are prepared for the playoffs...you can't do anything about your region but you can do something about the out of conference

ROH,
I'm not losing my touch, there are a lot of teams who fail to update their schedules. Before I hit the road, I checked the HHIHS schedule posted on this site and there was no evidence of a match being played yesterday afternoon. I would have loved to have seen that game.

offsides,
Speaking of updating schedules, there is no report on the Gaffney-Clover game played earlier this week. Can you give us a report on that one? I heard that yellow cards and PK's were being handed out like candy at The Reservation.

?
IDK! :P making a comment about how it should matter how much NA beat Aiken by.. it's still a win.
Well, I tought this might be the only bump in Wando's road to an undefeated season. BE has always given Wando a hard time, but they breezed through. Playing in a weak region and scheduling two very average NC high schools should mean an undefeated regular season. Other teams to look at as we complete the regular season:

Mauldin - get past Sptbg tomorrow night and they should not lose again.

Dutch Fork - hiccuped last night, but will have no trouble until the finale against Irmo.

Hanna - tough one at Wren tomorrow and Riverside next week.

Wren - beaten by Sptbg last night and could lose three more: Hanna, Dorman, J.L. Mann

Others to watch:
Irmo - no trouble until game vs DF
Dorman - Tough matches at Wren and Sptbg
Spartanburg - Mauldin tomorrow and Dorman in season finale

Hurst, I think this was a game that was scheduled just this week as a gap filler because both teams had games that were cancelled for various reasons earlier in the season. I honestly didn't find out about it till about 2:00.

It might have been a very costly game for Hilton Head High though as Senior All-State Forward Abby Fennessey went down with an apparent knee injury in the second half. Hopefully she will be alright as the season winds down.

Are you insinuating Wando plays an easy schedule to remain undefeated???

Define "average NC high schools".

Wando also played TL Hanna, BE, Waccamaw, Greenbrier, GA and Parkview, GA (the best team I've seen all year). Wando participates in the Viking Cup playing the best teams in the state. Coach's cannot control region play, and Coach Champ does an excellent job scheduling competitive games outside their region.

I'm pretty sure that Wando played two Georgia teams. I know Parkview was ranked #1 preseason in 5A Georgia ball, but I don't know what Greenbrier's ranking is or was. Wando won both games.

Parkview (GA) is a monster....great win for Wando.

TC Roberson (NC) is an excellent team, but I don't think they are as good this year as they were last year (not Wando's fault).

I don't think Wando ducks anyone.
Quote:

Hillcrest 1

so does this set the four teams from R2 in the playoffs?
I took a quick look and here is what we have:

Byrnes is 3-4 in region and has Dorman, Mauldin, and Boiling Springs left. Assuming no upsets it is reasonable to assume they finish 4-6.

Hillcrest is 2-4 and has Dorman, Mauldin twice, and Spartanburg left.

Although still possible, it will take an incredible effort by Hillcrest to move past Byrnes for that final spot.

But wouldn't it be a great story if they did!
Let me say I have followed and have supported Wando for a lot of years, dating back to the Coach Ferguson years.

What I meant was that with the remaining weak region schedule(yes no fault of Wando, just region they are assigned to - I agree) and that the two NC schools are average this year. TC Roberson and Coach Wilcher are not as good as years past (I believe he coached in the national HS All-Star game a few years ago here in Charleston).

The win over Parkview was big. I know their history. Year in and year out, not only one of the strongest teams in GA (with their share of state championships), but in the Southeast. Solidly beating BE gives the East Cooper bragging rights to Wando.

Is Wando good enough to repeat? They are a VERY good side, but have they played, game in and game out, as tough a schedule as some of the other top teams in SC? Where in the state tournament will they face a comparable team? Lower state finals? or state finals?

Two questions for someone to answer:
1. has any 4-A girls team gone unbeaten in winning a state championship?
2. Has any girls 4-A team won three conesecutive state titles?
Mr. Hurst:

You hold legendary status in our household, right behind the almost accurate prognostications of Ryan Roseberry and the twins, CJ and DJ. When you answer the phone after three rings, its service. When you answer it after two rings, its good service. When you answer it after one ring, it is excellent service, but...

When you answer it before it rings......I would have expected you to sense that Hilton Head was playing or smell it as you drove down or something...With the title "Legend" comes responsibility.....
Here you go, knock yourself out...

Eastide over J. L. Mann: Nice result for one of the best, nicest guys around, Coach Andy Robinson, and the Eastside girls. Don't be fooled by their record. They listen to their coach and they play his system which wins States.

And, my prediction is that Mann goes undefeated for the rest of the year and wins State in AAA.
Hey OutsidetheBox,

Wando's 1995 girls team finished the season 20-0 and won the state championship. They also won all three games in the Viking Cup but at that time it was just an exhibition and no winner was crowned.

TL Hanna 6-0 in region

Wren- who only has one lose, to TL Hanna in penalty shots.

Pretty much for the region championship.
One loss in region or one loss for the season?

I think Sparty got 'em once.
Region, and Hobo is being polite with his phrasing of this as "pretty much" for the region title. No other teams in the region can statistically win the region title at this point.

This is a BIG game for both teams, and great for Region I! To have two teams in the top 5 in the AAAA girls polls is a first!

There's also the little fact of facing the #3 or #4 seed from Region II in the first round, and getting home field advantage at least through the 2nd round. Both programs are having great seasons, and are looking to lay claim to a "slightly" (NOTHING is easy when you face a Region II team in the 1st round) smoother path in the playoffs.
I wonder if either Wren or Sparty showed their hand in their potential play-off preview match?

These two teams meet again on May 6th to determine the 3rd and 4th seed in Region I. The first tie-breaker is head to head goals, the second is goals against in the region. To date, Greenwood has allowed 2 fewer goals in region play. Greenwood still has (Hanna, Easley, and Westside), Westside still has (Laurens, Hanna, and Greenwood). The 4th seed most likely gets Mauldin first round, the 3rd seed earns a trip to Dorman. What a gift!

That is what I thought. I have personally witnessed Dreher do the same cheer after winning a game against Airport and other teams numerous times.... I guess some people have short memories.
Dreher's mascot is the Blue Devil, hence the cheer "the devil made us do it" after EVERY victory for at least the past 5 years that I'm aware of. For the Airport Eagles to throw that cheer back at them on their home field, in my opinion, is to be mocking them and is 'rubbing their faces in it'. Not to mention Dreher has not even won a game in the region, has only scored 1 goal in 8 games in the region, and only has 2 wins the whole season, both against the same team.
Live and Learn,

A cheer is a cheer, doesn't matter how it originated. How is it acceptable for Dreher to do this cheer after a win, while others cant? I am sure they (Dreher) have beaten many teams while those teams were having bad seasons and they felt like Dreher was "rubbing it in their face". Your argument has no merit!!!! Have you ever heard of the sayings "your reap what you sow" or "what comes around goes around" or "everything is on a wheel"

Dreher is young and has had several injuries, they will be ok and will be back doing the "Devils work" before you know it.... and I am sure that they will let the opponents know why the did it!!!

good luck to Dreher and coach K...

My only problem with the style is that many of us that see alot of SCISA soccer think that Ashley Hall has the athletes to compete at a high level in SCISA. I have thought that for years now. But it seems to the observer that they are content to "lose close". I just don't think that it is fair to the kids to chalk up a loss before the game ever starts.

As an aside, if the "result" that my coach wanted to acheive in any sport was a close loss, I would not play for that coach.

Me too! After all the soccer of the last two weeks I went fishing yesterday. I had a pretty good day considering the heat. I caught a couple of huge catfish on chicken livers and a bunch of shell crackers.

I love bobber fishing...you can snooze between bites!
Was promised many times the trip...but you never came through. That's the real reason I poured Kerosene in the 4x4.

Eastide over J. L. Mann: Nice result for one of the best, nicest guys around, Coach Andy Robinson, and the Eastside girls. Don't be fooled by their record. They listen to their coach and they play his system which wins States.

And, my prediction is that Mann goes undefeated for the rest of the year and wins State in AAA.

hey ROH,still on the JL WILSON bandwagon?Surprise, surprise! How about a prediction for the Blue Ridge vs. Riverside game for the region 3 championship? Should be a good one. Best of luck on an already successful season.
