Greenwood scored in the 3rd minute of play. Westside scored in the 27th but had the goal called back. Westside then scored twice more in the 29th and 31st minute. Greenwood scored 3 unanswered in the 2nd half by former coach George Sugden's daughter, Elizabeth Sugden. Westside was unable to convert an indirect free kick from the 2 yd. line and Greenwood's GK made three incredible 1v1 saves in the final 10 minutes to preserve the win.

Greenwood and Westside split their season series 1-1. Westside wins 2-0 at home, Greenwood 4-2 at home. Teams tied on aggregate goals, 4-4.

Mauldin 4

As the game started the light rain became heavier making the field difficult. The first 20 minutes was cut and thrust with little advantage gained by either side. With about 15 minutes to go Mauldin began to gain the initiative, this resulted in freshman, Emily Praktish, scoring with well placed shot from the edge of the penalty area. Mauldin continued to press and a few minutes later from a corner, Lauren Young hit a hard shot, which a defender tried to head wide, but instead rocketed the ball into the net. Shortly afterwards the Dorman goalie went full length on the edge of the goal area to save a shot, which rebounded to the edge of the penalty area, in the resulting fracas, Mauldin's Gracie Boswell, emerged with the ball and stroked a shot over the advancing goalie and into the underside of the net. The halftime score was 3-0 for Mauldin.

Dorman came out fired-up in the second half with more attacking players. Several anxious minutes elapsed for Mauldin as Dorman pressed their attack, with Mauldin defense unable to clear the ball. The Dorman pressure paid off with a nice goal from a shot from inside the area. Mauldin gradually regained the initiative and the forwards began splitting the Dorman three man back line with some penetrating passes, resulting in a nice run by Emily Praktish, who dribbled past two defenders and with the Dorman goalie rooted on the goal line shot an unstoppable ball from the corner of the penalty area into the far side of the goal.

Last season, RNE quit at halftime against DF. They were down 4-0 as I recall and decided not to play the 2nd half....
That is too bad for the team to have a coach that plays the game that way (or doesn't play the game!)reflects poorly on the school...I feel bad for the players that do have potential at RNE-Sara Simpson for one..not a very good high school experience for her and she has such talent.

Seems like there have been a number of forfeits on the girls side in the last week.

Is this a trend that usually happens towards the end of the season in girls soccer? One where teams are looking to avoid a rough match, so they skip it, then show up for the next one.

I know in 2002, the year before I took over at Westside, the Westside girls varsity team forfeited to their rivals, TL Hanna, on Hanna's senior recognition night!!!! I don't know if it gets any worse.

It's one thing (and still a bad thing) to forfeit the remainder of a season if a team is short players. But to forfeit select games just to avoid a lopsided defeat is poor sportsmanship.

Is this punished in any way other than the fact that the school that forfeits must pay the bill for the referees?

Check out the schedule on the RNE website here. Notice that there is no game on the schedule for April 21 and only one game against region foe White Knoll on the schedule at all. I spoke with several RNE parents and players today who said they knew nothing about a game being scheduled against White Knoll this past Wednesday because it wasn't on their schedule. They also did not know RNE had been charged with a forfeit which is what EurosportScoreboard indicates.

Also notice that RNE had a game against Aiken on Friday, April 23, which is not on the EurosportScoreboard.

It appears the SCHSL needs a centralized schedule management system. It would seem easy to endorse an already existing system maintained by the SCHSSCA and require the coaches to use it.

There's a very good system in place, but the problem is that the game had to be rescheduled due to a conflict with the Airport tournament.

Not sure what system you are referring to. A lot of schools do not put their schedules on scsoccer.com's portion of the EurosportScoreboard. For example, RNE vs Aiken this past Friday is not on there, but it is on both schools' websites and I was told by players and parents that it was played Friday night. Neither one of the RNE/OW games are on the EurosportScoreboard and only one of the Aiken/OW games is there.

The point is, if a good system is in place, why did RNE not show up for the game at White Knoll and why did the RNE parents and players not know it was supposed to be on April 21? Also, why did RNE not put a second game against White Knoll on the schedule on their website?

The scsoccer scoreboard is not perfect...if the coaches could update it themselves...like the way the club scoreboards are set up. This would help a lot.
Been there, tried that...too many people tried to put in too much conflicting information and the result was chaos. This actually works much better, and scores/games don't disappear when someone tries to put in something different.
any results from the hungry howie tournament??
Quote:

That's because SCYSA requires the club coaches/managers to update within two days after a match. As far as I know, SCHSL has no connection to the scsoccer.com portion of the EurosportScoreboard and, therefore, has no requirement for the high schools to submit schedules or update scores. The scores don't have to be reported to the league until the week before the playoffs, May 7 this year.

They could at least send their schedules into scsoccer.com, if not their scores.
Coach P: Just curious, when did RNE think they were supposed to play WK? Just 2 weeks left.
That's the big question. They only had one game against White Knoll on their published schedule. So that's all the parents & players knew about. I don't think they put it together that that was the only one and they had to have two, so no one knew to ask the coach about it.

Set it up like club soccer has it set up...delegate a little more responsibility instead of 2 people in the state dividing up the responsibilities...It can work
Quote:

You may be right, but I think having forfeits because of schedule mixups is a pretty big deal. Referees and one set of players, coaches, fans, etc. show up and don't get to play. In the case of RNE, the team is charged with a forfeit that the players and parents knew nothing about and they didn't get a chance to play either. The parents and players I talked to yesterday were pretty shocked and upset about it.

I don't think the process for reporting schedules and scores needs to be changed, it just needs to be endorsed by the league and the coaches required to use it.
Where's the Rne coach in all this...he/she doesn't know how region games they play? Did they contact WK about rescheduling?

Apparently does not utilize scsoccer.com or the centralized scheduling services they offer.
I agree with Morabito. Is it too hard for coaches to pick up the phone and call the other school? You should be able to call a school and talk to either the actual coach or the AD who would have the schedule. Coaches should keep in touch so this doesn't happen. I know its not WK coach's resposibility but I always check other teams schedule's routinely to make sure my team is on their schedule before we play.

Or at least an email saying "We're looking forward to hosting your team next week on X day at X time. Please confirm" And then a phone call if there is no response.
Speaking of missing things on the scoreboard, does anyone have info on Fort Dorchester's missing scores vs. Cane Bay, Goose Creek and Colleton? Trying to assess how the playoffs picture is shaping up, and all those blanks are not helpful...win/loss would answer the essential question even if the exact score isn't known.
Quote:

...I always check other teams schedule's routinely to make sure my team is on their schedule before we play.

And this would be easy to do if everyone was required to use the same, centralized, scheduling and score reporting system.
Yea I agree. We play in a NC private school league and some of the smaller schools never report their scores. So come seeding committee time, you think your team is looking good until someone sends in their schedule with 12 wins and 2 losses but no one ever knew they played a game all year.
Again doesn't the coach know how many region games they have/play? If you were missing one, wouldn't you contact that other coach to see what they have?
I think it just got left off of the schedule and went undetected.
Quote:

The scsoccer scoreboard is not perfect...if the coaches could update it themselves...like the way the club scoreboards are set up. This would help a lot.

I agree that the SC High School Soccer Scoreboard is not perfect. However, it is the "model" that the NSCAA uses for the prep soccer scene and has been that way for a decade. I, originally, got involved with Soccer Information Systems in 1993 when I was the Soccer SID at the University of South Carolina. Charlie Corbitt and his crew (mainly CC these days) have done a phenomenal job with the collegiate and prep scoreboards.

As for "input" from others - our system is tried and true and almost 100% correct. Is a score recorded as 5-0 instead of 6-0? Perhaps! We input what we are informed by coaches, team representatives, players, fans, officials, etc. It is "close" to being perfect.

As for the coaches themselves inputting the scores/results - that has been tried as well and you would be surprised at how many times the information is incorrect. Many a time we get a score reported from a "coach" that says it was 7-0, 8-0, or 9-0 - put down whatever. Well, we go to great lengths (more than we probably should) to get it right - at the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and B-Team levels. Find me another Scoreboard as such.

It's kind of like college football coaches voting in the national polls - that job is usually handed off to the respective school's SID. It might mean little to someone else, but the fact that a match is decided in regulation, overtime, or penalty kicks does matter. It also matters about sites such as home, away, or neutral. We try to be as objective as possible with as much data that we can accumulate and I think the Scoreboard is sufficient in this regard. Believe me, having all "coaches" input the data is hardly a panacea for the Scoreboard. I have seen many a "club" scoreboard with incomplete data.

I know that a prototype is in the works - and not very successful right now - that may see a change for next year. If they can get it implemented for the college soccer season next fall, then perhaps a high school version will be available as well.

So, until then notsofastfriend, just report the scores and they will be updated and uploaded in a timely manner.
Kyle,
I think the current process is great, but if the schools (coaches, ADs, admin assistants, whoever) aren't required to submit schedules and scores, at least some won't. Those holes keep the entire system from being as good as it could be. I just think the league needs to endorse a system (EurosportScoreboard would be fine) and require the schools to use it.

RNE's AD said the game was not on their schedule but the game was on Dennis Cook's email that was sent twice that week for teams to check and WK and the referees showed up so I don't think there is any reason for RNE not to have known about the game.
