Who are the best goalies in the state ?
Posted By: Hurst66 Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/26/10 12:35 AM
I know what team has the most DEPTH at the goalkeeper position. One going to play D1 college soccer in the fall and two more behind her minding the nets for the 93 ODP team.

So besides Hert at Mauldin who are the other quality Keepers in the state.
Posted By: Hurst66 Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/26/10 12:50 AM
Why didn't you just come out and say that in your first post? The suspense was killing me!
Posted By: sweet feet Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/26/10 01:14 AM
My next question is this, Mauldin has played 21 games and given up only seven goals. How many shots on goals are teams averaging against Mauldin? Mavs soccer dad, help me out with this stat.

Sweet,
Sorry, I don't keep stats. I think you have me confused with Hobo.

Madison Lightbody of South Aiken. Very good and consistant. (Senior)
Posted By: beachfan Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/27/10 02:03 AM
Emily Gossen of Academic Magnet is an excellent goalie (Sophomore). She will be fun to watch the few seasons.
Posted By: Tony King Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/27/10 02:56 PM
We have a right sharp little Freshman Goalie this year- Lauren Killian. She has made some really pretty saves along the way, and then a few silly lets too, but when she is on it is a joy to watch. She will be one to keep an eye on I think.

In the Upstate it has to be Mauldin's Morgan Hert #1. Spring Valley's Amy Kolowski is really good as is TL Hanna's Kaitlyn Neipp. Those are some really good AAAA keepers!
Posted By: Question Master Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/27/10 04:21 PM
Wouldn't you say Lightbody is #2, Neipp #3 and Kolowski #4??
Posted By: Coach R Brown Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/27/10 06:21 PM
I have to throw my keeper from Ben Lippen out there. We allowed way too many shots on goal this year, but she has consistently made some unbelievable saves every game! Merry Anna Cates is a freshman, second-year starter in goal, with over 200 saves on the season. She continues to improve and has proven herself as a leader on the team. I'll brag on her all day long!
Posted By: Loves to Play Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/27/10 09:11 PM
I totally agree. She has it all-she talks to her team (very vocal and I love that about her!) and makes the big saves. Have seen her play in club ball too and her club team knows what an asset she is to them!
Posted By: Gym Rat Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/28/10 06:25 PM
Lightbody looks like she's been working out!! I seen her at Gold's just the other day.
Posted By: Coach P Re: Best Goalies in State? - 04/28/10 07:01 PM
AC Flora's Lisa Hozey. I've seen her make some of the best saves I've ever seen from a girls' high school keeper. Makes good decisions, doesn't make mistakes, distributes well, and runs the defense well.

What have you done to her, coach? When I coached Merry Anna she went out onto the pitch of her own accord. I didn't have to throw her out there.

Danielle van Hulst of colleton county is one of the best. i know we have not had a great year, but she is amazing. Danielle has kept us in many games, but unfortunately giving up too many shots eventually some go in. she make highlight save after highlight save. she signed with a two year school since she wanted to ease into college and playing soccer at the same time.

Of course I am partial to Neipp, but I would go to war with any of these girls!

It is hard to pick THE best goalie, but I will put Neipp up against anybody in PK's. And her record in PK's speaks for itself

You know her well, Coach P. She LOVES to get out there and get dirty and there are NEVER any complaints! She continues to get better and is probably the most determined player I've ever coached. She has college talent written all over her, and she makes spectacular saves every game. Her heart and work ethic make up for her smaller stature, and she plays like she's 7 feet tall. She's fearless and I've never seen girls so protective of a keeper as my girls are of Merry Anna. She may not be the best right now, but I believe she's on her way. She's now a two-year starter on varsity as a freshman. I can't imagine how good she'll be by her senior year!
Posted By: PaulSchleifer Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/03/10 11:02 PM
I don't know about the best, but our keeper at Daniel, Julianna Ellis, a senior, has had a really good year. I've been watching Julianna in goal since U13, and this Spring she suddenly just played great. We had a disappointing season, but Julianna kept us close in a lot of games and stopped I don't know how many breakaways. She also really cut back on mistakes--very few all year.

Jordan Broadway from chapin has to be thrown into the mix! She has had to play in Layla Neal's shadow until this year, but has proven herself quite well

rumor has it that she's going to Presbyterian College to play too
Posted By: Hurst66 Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/12/10 02:37 AM
Are there any senior goalkeepers out there who are interested in playing in college, but have not made a college commitment yet?

PM me.........athletic scholarship money still available! Strong possibility of starting as a freshman.
Posted By: Goooalaso Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/12/10 03:17 AM
I want to put my freshman keeper in the mix, ASHLEY EARLY, remember that name.

Amelia Henderson, a junior at Wando, is one of the best goalies in the state. She is not "rusty" from not being tested much during the season. Her performance in the 2d round of playoffs last night was top notch! She is skilled, has the mental edge and she's ready to compete!

i like her also, but we'll never know from her teams schedule.
her best saves are at practice, i'm sure.
....you can't have everything.

After Amelia's performance vs Lexington last night, I say we DO know. I think her performance is all the more strong after not being tested much during regular season games. I agree she practices with the best.

My post is not to take away from other goalies in the state. The topic is "best goalies", which is plural. As pointed out previously, there are several worthy of mention. Amelia has earned her name on the list.
Posted By: sandman Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/13/10 09:29 PM
for a fan of a team that has spent 95% of the season in the attacking 3rd, i wouldn't get too carried away that she actually got to touch the ball last night.
she may be the best in the history of the world, but up to this point, we haven't had a chance to witness that.
my point is, thats the trade off when you have an overpowering team.
because of that, i would venture a guess that every goalie on wandos schedule has more saves & experience

I agree, Amelia is one of the top keepers in the state, probably top 3 or 4, if she learns to stay calm after giving up a goal, she could be the top keeper in the state.

The Blythewood keeper is really good. One of the most agile keepers, male or female, Ive ever seen. I believe she is only a freshman.

Madison Lightbody at South Aiken is one of the best Goalkeepers in the state. It is a shame that she has decided to not continue to play at the college level, she would have been a star at the collegiate level also. When she trains, she is one of the hardest working keepers I have ever seen. Great Kid and a Great HS and Club career
Posted By: D-Money Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/14/10 09:32 PM
I hear that Hammer. Aptly nicknamed "Mad Dog", Madison is one of the most hard-nosed goalies in the state and plays with no fear. South Aiken is graduating a good one this year. I too looked forward to her moving on to college and wowing us with her skills and massive punts. As a person, her character and personality outshine her goalie skills.
Posted By: LadyVolDad Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/15/10 07:47 PM
MadDog broke my heart too when she decided against playing at the next level. I have watched her for years and felt she could be very good at the collegiate level. No doubt she is one of the top 2-3 keepers in the state this year. She is a great kid and I wish her all the best in anything she decides to do.
Posted By: back of the net Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/15/10 08:58 PM
Oh no Lady Vol Dad, She is the best keeper in the state and out classed whatever the t breds had. You diminish her talents. She is an amazing player and if she had the right coaching experience WOULD have gone on to bigger and better things? Maybe she did not have a connection to the VOLS. Your charm doesn't change what was needed last year. SHE was the BEST goalie for SOUTH AIKEN.

Best keeper in the state? I believe there is a certain keeper in the upstate that was very highly recruited that's going to an in-state ACC school that I believe would be considered the best in the state this year.

She will get a chance to prove real quick her ability at the next level, her position is wide open for the taking.

I think both South Aiken's, Mauldin's,and Spring Valley's keeper are the three best in the state!! They have proved it at all levels (club, odp, and high school) congrats on great careers... I look forward to watching the Mauldin keeper at Clemson next year! ha
Posted By: Fair isn't Life Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/16/10 10:33 PM
I think Wando's keeper needs to be included in this list. You can't say a keeper isn't good just because she has a solid team in front of her. She comes up with the saves when she needs them. Solid work by #00 Amelia Henderson.
Posted By: Eric Cantona Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/17/10 07:28 PM
Emily Gossen for Academic Magnet. No quesiton
Posted By: Loves to Play Re: Best Goalies in State? - 05/17/10 09:14 PM
She's been mentioned before and I will say again-I agree 100%-she's incredible and an asset to any team!

Don't count out the goalie for JL Mann this year....she might be a freshman but I have seen her play for both school and CESA and that girls has instinct. Very athletic and definately one to watch.

Best goalie in the state next year plays for Wando
Posted By: DeltaDog Re: Best Goalies in State? - 07/05/10 06:08 PM
keep an eye on Maylyn Parsons, rising sophmore at Eastside
Posted By: Boots Re: Best Goalies in State? - 07/13/10 07:41 PM
Anyone know the keeper for Riverside,or if theres anyone new coming in? Looks like JL Mann is going to have a good keeper for them moving up to 4A, but does RHS have anyone good to keep them up in the division between the posts?
Posted By: transplant Re: Best Goalies in State? - 07/15/10 12:18 AM
Blair Worthington, the same goalie that was between the pipes for the last 2 state championships...could it be 3 in a row??Watch out 4A!!
