Email to parents from coach: The game is at The Cage at 7:30...
for what circumstances would 1 seed HH prefer to travel to 2 seed BC instead of host?
Airport vs. So Aiken is @7pm
I guess they want to get away from the beach for the day!!

I was wrong - it is at BC. 5 or 6 of the HH players are running in the state cross country meet Saturday morning and the school opted to play at BC so that the girls have a better chance at both.

hard to make much sense out this move. fyi-xc is run in the fall so i guess its a track meet? but agreeing to give up home field advantage and to play at the cage is crazy. what a huge break for bc.
played at hh, i think the game would be a toss-up/could go either way but now the edge/ref is with bc and think bc will win big. bc has good coaching and they play with a ton of energy at home. should be a good game.
JL Mann @ Riverside game game time is 6 PM
Greenville hosts Travelers Rest @ Sirrine Stadium at 6:00 pm
letmeputittoyouthisway -
I was wrong again - it is a track meet, not xc. I was obviously not in the middle of the conversations, but apparently the track coach was putting pressure on the girls to not play in the playoff game.
However, HH is young and fast (probably at least partially a credit to the track coach), but I still believe that it would be difficult for them to get by BC - even at home. In any event, playing in BC with the full team (rather than at home with missing players) leaves HH without excuses. BC is an extraordinary experience, but if HH wants to challenge for a title, they must be able to overcome a hostile environment.
ifc - good luck! many times it comes down to which team believes they can win and plays like they want it more. good coaching helps, too.

I think Clover will beat Dorman tonight. I think at this point becasue of intangibles it will take a clearly better team to beat them. Mauldin and Wando fit that category.....I don't think Dorman does. Dorman is a very good team but not better than Clover. Should be a great game....lets pray the weather passes or holds off. One of the two.
good luck to both teams.
HH has some players who are also running in the state track meet the same day. Therefore, to accommodate those athletes HH elected to give up their home field advantage and travel to Columbia.
I would put Dorman in the same category as Mauldin and Wando. Intangibles...Coach has been here many times before and will have his girls ready to play, prepared and hungry.
Should be a good game either way!

Dorman has a great coach with all levels of experience. However Wando and Mauldin have twice the talent as Dorman but Dorman relies on a coaching edge in most matches. Good luck to all the girls this weekend.
Clover vs. Dorman should be a toss up, and fun to watch.
in the end it will be:
SA and Riverside
Wando and Mauldin
My comments on intangibles had nothing to do with coaching...
My thoughts were this.....the Clover girls have their mojo going. They are talented........good everywhere, great in
spots. They have a nice blend of experience and youth, seniors who have started since they were freshman.....and also some younger kids. They got swagger after finally beating Fort Mill after something 113 straight losses. So the monkey of never winning big games is off their back.
And they're home....I expect a big crowd of people from the school, as well as club friends (like us!!) who will be there to cheer the girls on.
Should be a great game and a great environment. Good luck to both teams and may they all stay healthy!!!

Have to agree. Seemed like Wnado control the ball 95% of the time. Looked like Summerville was packing nine defenders behind the ball.
Mauldin-2
TL Hanna-0
0-0 at half pretty even till then.
Mauldin scored on a mistake by TL Hanna and the 2nd was a header on corner kick.
TL Hanna never gave up and had a couple really good opportunities at the end but could not capitalize.
Do you have a score for the game?

Heard Summerville used that same tactic in the first round and scored on a mistake that resulted in a break away and the only goal.

3 minutes into Golden Goal period.
Ah...should be 103rd. Regulation=80, plus 2x10=100, plus up to 2x5 GG=110 total. Didn't know if there was stoppage time though.
Good win for Dorman. Clover appeared punchless in 1st half as Dorman absolutely controlled play. Clover played with a lot more energy in the second half and had the better of things. Mistakes led to both Dorman goals in OT.
Dorman won most of the 50-50 balls and virtually everything in the air.
Very good game...particularly last 25 minutes of regulation and OT. Dorman had a very nice transition attack. And traveled well!!! Hats off to the Dorman faithful who made the trip!!
Congrats to the Clover senior girls on a season well played!!

My mistake, I was under the impression that they were playing 90 minutes regulation, (2) 10 minute overtime period= 110 plus (2) 5 minute GG. But, I could be mistaken.
Yeah, I always have to consciously make that transition between club and high school seasons; HS regulation time is 80 minutes.
Congratulations to Hilton Head Island. Surrendered home field advantage and made a long trip to Columbia.
Still got the job done.

in svilles defense, thats what an overmatched team is supposed to do, pack it in, keep opponents scoring ops low, play over the middle & hopefully capitalize on a few mistakes.
Congrats to Academic Magnet!!!!!
What happened to Bishop England? This is the first time in how many years that they haven't won?

Top ten reasons BE lost to AM
10. The pressure to stay on top is incredible. Everybody brings their A game to beat you.
9. The game schedule of playing lopsided games and then competitive games makes it extremely difficult to maintain a rhythm and consistency.
8. Seniors were out of school at 10am yesterday. Not a good day to think it’s vacation time.
7. You can’t have huge gaps in the midfield. Your opponent is always going to take the space.
6. BE had momentum going into second half but AM came out gunning and changed the tempo immediately. BE was complacent coming out in the second half.
5. If you’re going to have a bad day, it can’t be during playoffs.
4. AM was prepared, determined and focused. BE was not.
3. Never underestimate your opponent.
2. No matter how many great shots you make, they have to hit the back of the net.
1. AM wore black and they’re in a secret sisterhood with Wando.
It was a sad day in Mudville.
Congratulations to AM and good luck to all the lowcountry teams moving on.

IT WAS A GREAT DAY FOR THE REST OF THE STATE! DOWN GOES BE! DOWN GOES BE!
The one thing that BE did have on their side last night were the refs!
Thank you BE Bashers for your sportsmanship.
Sorry, Marta - I am not bashing BE. They played a great game. I am "bashing" the refs!
I was mainly referring to Hatem Ben Arfa Soccer4fun. I thought the refs were OK although it did seem like the stoppage play went a little long. In spite of a strong push at the end by BE, it didn't matter how the refs were - AM won fairly and squarely.
I think with the run that B.E. has had. Many would be pulling for a underdog to win.
Of course. I get the underdog thing. But a chant of "BE goes down"? Although I forgot.... we're all adults on a message board.... that's different.
And for the upstate 2A teams singing the chant, be careful what you wish for.
I do not think this was as big of an upset as people think. AM's results with common opponents of BE's have been similar and consistent. Having watched the match, I better team won last night
I agree regarding most common opponents ranked lower however an argument could be made to the contrary elsewhere looking at the win/loss and scores (i.e. AM lost to W. Ashley and Brookland Cayce - BE defeated those teams, AM had close games with James Island 4-3 and Barnwell OT whereas BE defeated JI 6-0 and Barnwell 3-0).
In any event, the "upset" primarily refers to defeating a higher ranked team with a history of consecutive state championships including last year.
Hats off to Coach Bennage who did a good job with scheduling to position AM and a great job with preparing his team for playoffs. He better make sure they have their running shoes on when they go to Waccamaw on Monday. Good luck.... It would be a great way to end his coaching career.

Saw that the Battery play Pittsburgh Riverhounds tonight. Maybe you guys could get out of Mudville and check out the match since your schedule's pretty much cleared up for 2010?
The bottom line is simple. AM out played BE. All the other things do not matter. The future seems much brighter at AM. Most of AM starting players are freshman and sophmores. AM will be able to compete as easily with Waccamaw as BE would have. And one of the biggest differences is AM doesn't take anything for granted.
My daughter is an AMHS player that has played with and against many of the BE players over the past 10+ years. I would like to compliment BE. Their girls handled themselves with class last night. Marta is correct that everyone brings their A game, when they play BE. What BE has accomplished by winning 8 straight state championships was remarkable and should be praised. I wish everyone would stop gloating over their loss last night.
I think it is hard to really compare schedules and like opponents as each team is very different. BE is a very veteran team led mainly by seniors and juniors. AMHS started 2 freshmen, 6 sophomores, and 3 seniors. Our bench is full of underclassmen. Most of the season, the coaches were moving our players around to find the right fits. The young lady (freshman) that scored all 3 goals started the season at sweeper. BE came into the season with a good idea of where their pieces fit. AMHS was and is a work in progress.
The game was exciting and well played. I thought the refs did a very good for the most part. I almost had a heart attack when the linesmen called our goalie for punting the ball "just" over the line with such little time left in the game. Thankfully, we survived that and the last 2 minutes (that went closer to 5 minutes) as BE put the press on.
Again, my hat is off to the Lady Bishops for what they accomplished over the last 8 seasons. They should be applauded for their accomplishments. People, please remember these are teenage girls.

Are you serious?
Thank you Beachfan. I already knew Tugjobber was President of the BE Bashers Club. See my earlier posts. I just didn't know Sandman was in the club too.
I don't have any sour grapes Sandman, look in your pocket and peel your own.
The game is over. AM won which obviously means they played better mpheel. I don't think I've said anything but congratulations and good luck to AM. They are a great group of girls and as Beachfan stated, we know many of them and have played with them or against them for a long time.
I wish the AM program the best of luck in the future. End of story.

Postscript: I just want to clarify that when I said "good luck" to Coach Bennage I meant I hope they win and he ends his career with the best win possible (i.e. state championship). I certainly did not mean I hope his career ends against Waccamaw. I guess I should have said " A win would be a great way to end his coaching career." When I reread this I guess some could have taken it differently. My husband has worked with Coach Bennage and has the utmost respect for him. I have met him briefly and he seemed like a very nice gentleman and is obviously a good coach. Like I said, no sour grapes.
