TL Hanna played very dominate tonight. JL Mann has some very talented YOUNG players. Meaning they are only going to get better. #2 was very good tonight and she is a freshman. Also they were missing some key players , I think. Pretty clean game and pretty well refed.

i agree on this one, the writing was on the wall all day (early) & i kept waiting for it to be called by mid afternoon. all the weather sources were predicting a t-storm mess by game time. even the superdopplerboogaloocontraption 5000 was on target. it seemed like it should have been an easy call to make to reschedule for thursday with the great upcoming weather & refs & field scheduled for use & save s. aiken alot of frustration. somebody at wando really dropped the ball i guess. shouldn't the home a/d be in constant contact with the local weather when in doubt & an opponent travelling so far? wasn't just rain, it was game ending t-storms predicted early in the day. i know the college uses its local weather contacts extensively for baseball.

More like a beat down!
i'm sure that dominating beat down was due to an extra bus trip.
You know what could have solved this? Maybe South Aiken could have won their region and then they could have made the decision whether to play or not.
Where was the Charleston hospitality. Wando boosters should have put S.Aiken in a hotel. Feed them a nice meal at Shem Creek. Invited them to lunch the next day at their cafeteria and then put a beat down on them.
Then they would have been accused of lulling them into a false sense of security.
I guarantee you the Mom's of S. Aiken did not want their husbands to "stray" into downtown Charleston and end up in the clutches of a couple of these evil-do-ers.

I bet that text message read "Looks like rain, cancel the game, no stopping on Market or King. PS: Get Milk on ur way home."

CJ - Thanks for having my back. We really would have liked to know that the game was going to be canceled before we drove all that way. The girls are in the middle of AP exams, so staying overnight wasn't an option.

CUNITEDPARENT - Thanks for showing your ignorance as obviously you know nothing about how playoff seeding works. We beat Lexington twice this year(once in Viking Cup) and were made co-region champs. Because the #1 seed was not based on goal differential, which we would have won, it was necessary to go to conference play where we had the same record. Number one seed was based on non-region schedule strength. Feel blessed that all of your players are healthy, as two of our starters had season-ending injuries.

Wando and Coach Champ have done a fantastic job and I make no excuses for the loss. I am incredibly proud of my girls and the fact they fought for 80 minutes despite having very few subs, as Wando was able to sub five at a time due to their numbers. We get forty girls to try out for our teams not 100.

all joking aside, i think every wando fan of soccer is disappointed about the way that rainout was handled.

oh praise jesus, thanks for gracing us with day old scores in this time of need. some day soon we will figure out this gosh darn newfangled interwebs & be able to post relevant info & run a tourney at least half assed.
Did Wando play last night?
http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20120512/PC20/120519691/1035

Post & Courier: "The Wando Warriors girls soccer team rolled to a 5-0 victory over Dutch Fork on Friday night.
The Warriors, who have outscored foes 21-1 in three playoff games, will host West Ashley on Monday in the Lower State championship."
Sandman, if you go back to page 8 of this very thread you will see I posted the Dutch Fork/North Augusta score about an hour following the conclusion of the match. I also updated the Eurosport scoreboard.

Tomorrow I'll be doing a tutorial on the interwebs...
I believe what sandman was looking for was the completed brackets at SCHSL. Every game except the dutch fork/naugusta game was filled by Friday morning. It was still blank Friday night. Not a reflection on you sawicz. Just looking for the info all in one place.
no complaints here, great site & appreciate all the info!
To make Sandman feel at ease the Lower State Championship game at Wando game has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 7pm due to projected inclement weather.
Where does Academic Magnet play their home games?
Yeah and I don't understand why they called it so early. Radar looks good so far.
Academic Magnet plays at Ravenel Stadium at St. Andrews Middle School (old St. Andrews High School). Also, you have to go behind the school and park behind the visitors stands, as the only open gate is located back there.

and grueling. 110 mins before getting to pk's.
Thanks CJ. Lots of tears to dry... I'm still somewhat emotional myself, but in a good way. These 110 minutes plus Pk's were a very nice advertising campaign for the beautiful game. Fantastic atmosphere in the stands and an exciting game on the pitch. (e.g. crossbar shot by Eastside in first half, then Mollie Waters' ball moving to cross EHS' goalline but #22 just in time scratching it off the line.) Great evenly matched competition. We need more games like this... although it's still a tough way to lose.

I loved hearing comments from first time soccer watchers like "Wow, only $6 admission for such a show. I think I'll watch more soccer now" or "Don't you have club tryouts for U-15 tomorrow? I want to come."

I could not be more proud of my Lady Raiders and we wish the Lady Eagles all the best this Friday. Represent the Upstate and the beautiful game again well!

Maybe they should move into a different class
Low country can't hang. Soccer players go to private school or Wando.
Wasn't it all Region 7 Lower State Championship?

Largest school in the state. no other class to put them in unless they won't to play with themselves. (could be taken out of context.)
Has there been talk about Mount Pleasant building a new HS and splitting Wando? For Mill has 2 HS's and there has been talk of a 3rd. Slowed with the recession......but plans are out there.
There has been a rumor going around for a while about a new high school in MP. They have done (still doing) a lot of renovations on elementary and middle schools there. While that has been going on, they have temporarily place those schools at the old Wando HS. The rumor is that after the others schools are finished then they will fix up old Wando to become the 2nd high in MP. I know they are busting at the seams at the new high school (were as soon as they built it). Time will tell.

You didn't catch the yearly discussion that I am referring to.

Kudos! Honesty and it made me chuckle too.

couldn't agree more. the low country has wando...well west ashley and south aiken looked good this year but it is usually a dominant wando. but for the play offs, they face the lower seeded midlands teams...it doesn't seem fair that the upper midlands teams have to face the upper state teams which usually consist of the better teams. i guess that's where "to be the best, you have to beat the best" comes in to play...

Try playing Wando 3 times in a season, I think Region 5 found out what that will do for you.
But size doesn't mean winning. Take away soccer and what other sport do they dominate in? Not football or basketball or baseball.
Correct, total numbers do not matter in soccer it is the demographic of those numbers. I am sure the rankings in both make and female soccer teams closely mirror the inverse of the poverty index or rating of those schools.
Now, when you have numbers AND demographics, that's a pretty wicked 1-2 punch.
While a lot of what is being said here is generally correct, some is not universally so.
1) Look across all schools, enrollments and sports, and larger schools don't ALWAYS win.
2) While "demographics" are relevant, the far more telling predictor APPEARS to be access to superior club coaching WELL BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL AGE.
3) Some parents WILL move to put a soccer-playing child in a certain school, or at least consider such factors when doing a relo.
4) Sport "supremacy" runs in cycles. During my 30 or so years in Charleston, I've seen great boys' soccer programs at Summerville, the old Middleton, West Ashley and Wando. And not so long ago, I seem to recall West Ashley winning a girls' state championship.

Regarding a new high school in Mount Pleasant, CCSD appears committed to finishing its various rebuilds of older and seismically-endangered schools BEFORE adding a new high school. From what I have been told, there is a possibility "Old Wando" will be remodeled as a ninth-grade annex, leaving only one HS in Mount P. The other possibility is that a totally new school -- with a Class AA-AAA enrollment would be built or opened.
Outside of CCSD, I do know Berkeley County is planning more East of Cooper including a new High School on Clements Ferry Rd.
BCSD minutes
Could be interesting to see what that does over time.

No argument there...however, one of the factors influencing access to that superior club coaching before high school age is, well...demographics.
Hi Coach.

OK, so my kid fell into a demographic.
Here is a sampling of his post-micro club coaches (by description):

1) The "old hand," who was a little too "old school" for some of the moms and the new club bosses.
2) The soon-to-be-college-coach, who left after one session.
3) The used car salesman, who was generally late to training and couldn't discipline a pet, much less a kid.
4) Director of Coaching No. 1, who told my son he'd never be fast enough to play at a higher level.
5) Director of Coaching No. 2, who actually WORKED at his trade and constructively demanded more from the kids.

Thank god for Example No. 5, without whom my son would be playing (or not) anything BUT soccer. My point being, demographics are significant, except when they're not. Which is actually quite often.
Trust me, I'm with you...I understand completely. Just being in the "right" demographic category certainly doesn't guarantee anything. It does, however, tend to increase the chances and opportunities, as opposed to (since we were originally talking about schools and programs, not just individuals) areas that have minimal practical access to club and other "feeder" programs and/or don't have many families with the disposable income to invest in training outside of the high school system.

I'm glad your son found someone he could respect and work hard for; it does make a mighty difference, and I'm glad you were willing and able to continue to invest until he found a place where he could grow.
I see your point, for sure. It's got to be tough at Berkeley, or a lot of more rural schools, nowhere near training ops. The flip side would be a place like Goose Creek, which has a ton a Latino kids, but clearly doesn't give a rip about soccer.
