Chapin 3
Greenville 2

Congratulations to Coach Taylor and his Chapin girls on a clean hard-fought win. What a comeback! Greenville was up 2-0 at half-time. Chapin scored with a 35 yard (!) distance shot in the second half and managed to pull even in the last minute of regulation.
Both teams went back and forth in 2 x 10 minutes overtime. Still 2-2. The game winner was an own goal by Greenville headed into the net off a corner kick in the 5th minute of Golden Goal period.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Chapin in the championship game next Friday.

Painful lose. Major props to Dorman for playing a great game.

One issues I have with tonight:
Ref missed an obviously PK. Our best forward and one of the best in the state was two feet into the box right at the center of the box and gets taken to the ground and ref says 'first contact' took place outside the box and gives us a free kick instead of a PK.

We get the PK and its a 2-2 game and anyone can win. Instead we get a free kick and miss it. Horrible call period.
Posted By: whatever Re: Girls Playoffs - 05/17/14 02:02 AM
If you don't know who to put on the field by the 20 th game that's a problem. You just punched Mann ticket to finals
Posted By: Hobo Re: Girls Playoffs - 05/17/14 02:02 AM
I picked Dorman. I think they played a harder schedule and I knew they were probably better coach. Good job to both teams. Look out for Dorman the rest of this yea, and the next Two. They start 8 freshman and Sophmores I was told.

Dorman got off to a quick start with an early goal.

We tied it.

Dorman got a great/lucky shot. Give the girl props for the goal, but doubt she could do it again in 10 tries. It was a crossing type ball and stuck her foot out and had it about shoulder height and hit the ball and it went in the far side of the net.

Center ref blew a PK. Two feet in the box and girl gets taken down and we get a free kick?? Best forward on the team, Clash of the Carolinas pick, 25 goals this year and she is positioned dead center at the top of the box and gets taken to the ground and ref gives us a free kick?? I hope we can find a photograph of where she was taken down and post it.

Dorman gets another goal and its game over.

Dorman may have had a harder schedule, but they lost to most of the tough teams they played.

Lost to Mann(scrimmage) , lost to Eastside, Lost to Dutch Fork, Beat Wade Hampton in PKs then lost to them at home.

Once you get past Wade Hampton their best wins were TL Hanna and Riverside good teams but not overly impressive. That is why I thought FM would take it, plus our goals scored and stingy defense throughout the year.

They say that people who are lucky make their own luck and Dorman made their luck tonight and we didn't.

Tough loss for Swansea as we dominated the game 15-5 in shots.
Two keepers out with concussions... Lots of injuries, not making excuses, just did not have the depth to compete through this round:-(
Good luck to St. James...they fought hard defensively to earn their respective spot!

Paper says FM got a pk but missed. So who knows if they would have converted on another. You gotta put em in the back of net before you put em on the scoreboard
Posted By: firsttouch Re: Girls Playoffs - 05/17/14 11:48 AM
Fort Mill never got a PK- the paper is wrong. The center in their game would never give a PK to the player fouled in the box (way in the box)- he has told plenty of people that he doesn't like her. The center should have never taken the game if he had any character, he is completely biased against 2 of the Fort Mill players. And proved it again in this game. Dorman executed a good game plan- congrats

Great season for MB with a 17-2 record. HH is a great team and the title is theirs to lose.

But the system is off. It was great to win the region and be rewarded with the home field through the lower states, but the path was more difficult than the #2 seed had. #2 had a cakewalk and that doesn't make sense.

JL Mann up 1-0 at half. Goal by Dixon
Too close. Scared
Good game . Despite the complaints from the Mann side, where I am sitting, it is a pretty good reffed game. I don't have a dog in the fight just came out with my daughter to actually support her club teammates on Mann. Mann has had more chances by 3-1 but Dorman has missed a few good opportunities. No injuries and hope it finishes that way.
Still 1-0?

How many go to Dorman?
2012-13
Wando 3550
Dorman 3149
Mann 1685

Dorman is 186% the size of Mann
Wando is 210% the size of Mann

Wando has 100 more student per grade than Dorman so the extra size is significant.
Oh... I do have to not that Hilton Head did beat Wando so it can be done.

I am thinking Hilton Head is the best team in the state perhaps?

Can someone explain Hilton Heads lose to Spring Valley? Or Wando's lose to HH?
Size didn't seem to bother the Mann women's lacrosse team.
congrats to coach champ, the wando girls & jl mann on another great season.
class all the way.
I watched HHI beat Wando. HHI was the better team that night and earned the win with two great finishes in second half. HHI won the game. Wando did not lose it.

The HHI loss to Spring Valley was against the run of play. HHI just didn't finish and misplayed a couple balls into SV goals ..maybe playing second game of day against SV single home game that day?

HHI won other two Viking Cup games by combined 13-1. HHI's only 4A loss. was to SV . HHI 9-1 against 4A.

HHI only other loss was to a team from WI that was ranked #9 nationally in 2013. HHI also beat an IL and two GA 6A teams.

HHIs Coach Suozzi has won states 6 times (HHCA twice) and always has well coached winning teams

HHI had two terrific players in Srs. Ashely and Amanda Green, together they were as good as any combo in SC and won 4 straight AAA state titles.
HHI has already been to Mars. That's why there are no signs of life.

HHI puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter"

HHI makes onions cry.

At the last supper, Jesus asked HHI whether they wanted Merlot or Pinot Noir.

HHI has a bearskin rug in their training room. It isn't dead, just afraid to move.
I am not sure who can claim to be the best team in the state since they all have flaws.

There are four teams in the state with one instate loss for the year. Five if you count Academic Magnet.

Mann 25-1 lost to Wando
Wando 21-2 lost to HH and out of state team
Hilton Head 22-2 lost to Spring Valley and out of state team
Fort Mill at 20-2-1 lost to Dorman and out of state team (that tie was a win in PKs but since it was a tourney its a tie instead of a win) Not making it to the state championship rules them out as 'best team'
Academic Magnet 22-1-1 lost to Wando and that tie was a loss to Fort Mill in PKs plus they had a much weaker schedule so that rules them out.

That still leaves you with three teams two of which have been beat by another so how do you decide which one is the best??

Was HH's loss to Spring Valley a fluke? Maybe Wando's loss was a fluke too? Or even Mann's loss yesterday.

I guess if you are HH you can claim your state title and the fact you beat the other state champion and declare yourself best in state and then everyone else can go "yea, but...."

"The HHI loss to Spring Valley was against the run of play. HHI just didn't finish and misplayed a couple balls into SV goals ..maybe playing second game of day against SV single home game that day?"

Was that you pounding the table???

Seriously... you lost to Spring Valley... 13-7 and 3rd in their region. SV lost to Irmo twice and Mann demolished Irmo 4-0 they also lost to Dutch Fork and Wando beat Dutch Fork 4-1 and the lost to Blythwood who lost to Fort Mill twice.

Perhaps if you didn't lose to SV you could claim to be the best team in the state, but that loss is pretty hard to explain away.

BTW 9-1 against 4a isn't that impressive when trying to compare yourself to 4a teams. Doubly so when the 4a teams you were playing weren't that great outside of Wando.
Your right absolving HHI of SV loss is hard to do but all the other cross scheduling permutations are also equally subjective. I guess that is why head to head competition is a the most trusted tie breaker and for this year it was HHI 2 Wando 1.

Ok, but are you better than Mann???

It's a circle of death. You beat Wando, but SV beat you, but Irmo beat SV, but Mann beat Irmo, and Wando beat Mann...

I am guessing that the difference between the top three teams is very small and any given day one could beat the other depending on the field and weather and who has a good day and who gets lucky and where the game is played.

In a few weeks the Masey ratings will come out and I would not be surprised to see Wando and Mann first and second and HH third due to its overall weaker schedule.
