We break into 6v6 or 7v7 games.Try to stay away from calling them drills. The ground game and possesion is absolutly stressed.
Players may only hold onto the ball between 3-5 seconds (depending on the size of field)before they must pass(this encourages their teammates to support)
Balls played above the waist or trapped up are penalized with an indirect the other way as are possesions more than the time limit above. The coaches stay on either side of the field to encourage wide play. You might try this-it works for us.

possession is imperative for soccer. you might also consider 1v1 drills that will boost confidence in your team. once that confidence rises, so will possession time. 4v4 with small goals is a great idea. bc you only have 3 other teammates, there is an urgency for them to always support. but as you already know, in order to be good at possessing the ball, you have to have a good first touch and confident to get your head up and know what you want to do with the "package" before you receive it.

Well all know what to do with the "package"...deliver it. Possession has been the word of the week. It's the difference between 9-12 and 14-8. Game is at six, see you then if no rain.
