Dreher - 1
RNE - 0

The game was played mostly in Dreher's offensive zone. However, they were unable to score until mid 2nd half. As one of the players with whom I am very close said, 'Dad, we played horrible.'

Wow! Did WA not pull back after getting a big lead? Who benefited from this scrimmage?
So W&E how good is Riverside?
Ewwwwwwwww...I'm glad that game is over. Praise the Lord they're AAA.
So how do believe the Mauldin vs Riverside game on 3/1 with turn out? I see you have scrimmaged both teams. Is it true Riverside will be AAAA next year?
Riverside will NOT be AAAA next year. Any re-classification that takes place will not be in effect until the 08-09 school year.
They will be AAAA, but at the time Deahler has highlighted.

Which team is better? I hate having this argument with two fantastic teams! On the field, you're looking at two very, very similar teams in terms of speed and skill. I'd have to say that Riverside is about .089 of a goal better than Mauldin because of experience and their goalkeeper. If they were to meet later in the season, that'd be a different story, but being that so many freshmen and sophomores are getting pt for the Mavericks, I think Riverside (read they're only replacing two starters) will edge them out.

Michael Young (W & E) doesn't like having an argument? Come on now. Slinging it & stirring it up is your life. Good luck against the Alma Mater (& your name sake) on Friday. Hope to see ya out there.

Michael Young? Oh, that T.L. Hanna coach guy? What a jerk!

Yes, yes, big game against my very being, my blood, my home. I hope we can keep them under 15.

Might I go on record as saying that I personally pick AIKEN HIGH SCHOOL to win the whole Viking Cup Tournament while only allowing one goal in five matches.

A very early goal on the starters, 3 goals on the subs, and one spectacular own-goal. I've had more entertaining evenings...

Nice effort from WHS who played without 3 injured starters and several others hobbling—Rough pre-season!

Broome games in the Chester Cyclone Cup tournament girls' division.

vs. Lugoff-Elgin on 2/22/07

Scoreless until the last 5-10 minutes of the game. Broome broke through with goals being scored by Addie Hutson off an assist by Emily Bryant and then by Lauren Hutson (Addie’s sister) on an assist by Mackenzie Camby. Caroline Moss had 9 saves in the game, with only 2 having to be made in the second half. Broome took 24 total shots, with 16 of those being on goal. Final 2 -0 Broome.

vs. Gaffney on 2/23/07

Close game in the first half, with Gaffney leading at the half by a score of only 1-0. Broome only had 8 total shots for the game (3 shots on goal), with only 2 (1 on goal) coming in the second half. Gaffney scored several (2 or 3) of their goals in the second half on set pieces from corner kicks. Caroline Moss had 14 saves in the first half and 20 for the game, so it could have been a lot worse. Final score 5-0 Gaffney. This turned out to be a battle between the top 2 teams in the tournament as Gaffney finished first with an undefeated record (4-0) and Broome finished second with a record of 3-1. Broome plays Gaffney again in Gaffney on Tuesday, 2/26/07 at 6:00 PM.

vs. York on 2/24/07

Broome took the lead fairly early in the game on a breakaway goal by Stephanie Godfrey on a long assist by Siobhan Johnson. Stephanie picked up a brace early in the second half as she scored on a low trajectory shot from the right side that slipped under the York keeper. Lauren Hutson finished off the scoring with a powerful shot from just inside the left side of the 18. Caroline Moss was hardly bothered the entire game as she only had to make 6 saves total (with only 2 in the first half). That was due in part to the play of all the girls on defense (defenders Chandler Morrow, Morgan Worthy, Brittany Yerkes and Siobhan Johnson and midfielders Mackenzie Camby, Emily Bryant, Meredith Rudasill, Mercedes Herbas and Olivia Gilmer). The shutout was spoiled on a goal by York which was scored off a set piece from a corner kick with only about 30 seconds to go in the game. For the game Broome had 28 total shots (with 18 of those being on goal). Final score 3-1 Broome.

vs. Chester on 2/24/07

Broome attacked from the start with a great opportunity from Isabelle Berry that was only kept from going in by a great save by the Chester keeper. The girls stayed on the attack for much of the first half with Chester only able to attempt a few shots on Caroline Moss (who only had to make 3 saves in the first half and 5 for the game). Broome finally broke the scoreless tie on a great goal by Emily Bryant that was chipped over the Chester keeper’s head from the left side of the field just outside the 18. That was followed by a penalty kick that was powered in to the top right corner of the goal by Mackenzie Camby after Olivia Gilmer was taken down inside the box by two Chester defenders. Broome led at the half by a score of 2-0. The second half was much of the same, with Broome players peppering the Chester keeper with first, second and sometimes third chance shots (24 total shots in the game, with 11 being on goal). Unfortunately, the girls weren’t able to break through and add to their goal total from the first half, but Chester was prevented from scoring at all by a Broome defense that was able to preserve the shutout. The contest was hard fought and very physical. Several yellow cards were given out (2-3 to Chester and 1 to Broome). Goalkeeper Katie Sparks came on in relief of Caroline Moss late in the second half and only had to make 2 saves during her first action of the season in goal. The final score was 2-0 Broome. With the win, Broome finished second in the tournament with 3 girls (Caroline Moss, Chandler Morrow and Stephanie Godfrey) making the all tournament team.
