P&Y
Why do you think all that scores is the best. Do you not have any defenders that contribute?
Posted By: Coach Young Re: Best Senior Class - 04/26/07 12:45 AM
He put in career stats. What career stats would you like him to put for defenders? Games played or started? I don't think you'll find that on this site's individual statistic page.

Just curious as to what determines "best". Like you said Offense has goals scored, goalies have saves. No one keeps stats on defenders except maybe the parents or players themselves - why is that?????

If you are going to "Celebrate the best" celebrate all the best. Defenders are the unsung heroes.

What stats do the parents have?

One of the players listed above is a starting sweeper/defender (in the career stats offered above)—The other senior has played almost exclusively defender throughout her career, and as others have noted, there are no D stats—a regrettable fact of soccer.

I think this group at WHS has been outstanding, and thought others felt they had similar situations. I don't think this class is better than other schools—but the best this school has ever seen. I wanted a place to CELEBRATE—not compare—sorry for the confusion.

p&Y thanks for the clarification - I for one just wanted to know if WHS had any senior defenders that needed the nod. Great job and sounds like you had a great season. With two defenders in this house (one is one of the top defenders in the state) we like to see defenders get their thanks for their contributions. Defender stats are hard to come by.

Whiskey - what stats do parents have??
Pohots, articles, goals scored, goals denied, shutouts, balls served up to the forwards, playing time, You named it we keep track of it.

You would really ask P and Y to compare the articles each girl has had about her? Goals denied? Balls served? Wow, I can see it now...

Jennifer Ramsey - Sr., 3 articles, 6 goals denied (possibly 7 but we think that shot would have hit the crossbar and gone out), and led the state in balls that had the crap kicked as a clear that a forward was able to get to - 98, 2892.72 minutes played

Michelle Stevens - no articles, 67 goals denied (you never know when those half field kicks would have gone in), 38 balls kicked up to the forwards...we think, and 1941.09 minutes played (I had 1941.09 but her dad rounded up the seconds and we think it was actually closer to 1957.44)

Obviously, I'm picking but would you show me what it would actually look like for a FM player?

Whiskey take a drink and a pill
I was just curious if WHS had any senior defenders worthy of mention.
If you want to see a portfolio or her sports resume stop by - it was the best advice we ever got.

FMFAN—

For the record, I have close ties to a defender—who I love—So I find it weird that this thread was misunderstood.

As a high school coach, I was quick to note—and continue to emphasize—that our best players must be on defense or contribute heavily to the defense. The best team I ever coached came about because we took our top scorer and made him our sweeper. He sacrificed his stats and we were a very respectable team with him in the back.

I listed all of WHS's seniors, but only have stats for the ones who have offensive data—again the nature of soccer—not my wishes.

I just didn't realize Jessica was a defender (my error). Your record shows someone was working the back. Great job!

Actually, if you want to get technical, you asked him why he thought those that scored were the best. That was followed by the slightly jabbing "Don't you have any defenders that contribute".

Sorry for paying attention

Actually, if you want to get technical I asked "him" the question. Just didn't see the player positions listed. I'm old cut me off at the knees

No problem—glad to join you in support of defenders!
