Irmo plays Ardrey Kell (NC) at 7:00 PM on Saturday.
You are correct Coach P. Thanks for catching that.

Irmo vs. Ardrey Kell should be a good one.

Looking forward to it. It looks like a matchup between the 6th ranked AAAA teams in the two Carolinas.
We have a late change to the FM BB&T Invitational. RJ Reynolds has dropped out due to the North Carolina public school rule that you cannot play more than three games in one week.

Asheville's TC Roberson will take their place. The undefeated and #6 ranked team in NC 3A will be matched up against AC Flora on Saturday at 1:00 PM.

Here's who is playing who:

South Carolina Champion of the FM BB&T Invitational will be determined based on points. All nine SC schools play three matches; two against SC schools and one against an NC school. 40-minute HALVES, no OT. Traditional 10-point tournament scoring: 6=win, 3=draw, 1=shutout, 1=per goal (three goal max).

Place your over & under bets on these projected point totals:

1. Spring Valley (22)
2. Dutch Fork (21)
3. Lexington (20)
4. Irmo (14)
5. Fort Mill (13)
6. Spartanburg (11)
7. Northwestern (9)
8. AC Flora (6)
9. Eastside (3)
I'll take the over on Eastside
Eastside has a very tough schedule. Goals will be at a premium. If they earn a draw in one of their three matches, that would be a very good result for them.
Are the games really only 40 minutes?
No wonder there were so many draws last year.
truefan,

My mistake....typing too fast. 40-minute halves.

Many draws last year due to evenly matched teams. Thanks!

you getting excited there hurst!!!
So, based on your point system a tie would earn a team at least 4 points... 3 for the draw and 1 for the shutout or goal scored?
That's correct Delta Dog.

....and a win would earn you at least 7 points.

Like to wager on an over/under?
Quote:

I believe a win would earn you at least 8 points.
1-0 -- 8 points
2-1 -- 8 points
2-0 -- 9 points
3-1 -- 9 points
3-0 -- 10 points
etc

I can't think of any way to get 7 points under this points system.
That's true too, Coach P.

A win would earn you at least seven points AND at least eight points.

We're both right!

I'm pretty sure you max out at 10 pts per game though.

Correct, of course.

The "etc" was to indicate the many additional combinations of winning scores that could get you 9 or 10 points.
With Cara Woolford, starting center defender who missed the Saturday games at Viking Cup, back in the lineup and everyone healthy, I'd give Eastside a fair chance to show better than 0-3-0. Still depends on how their recovery from last year's graduations is going, but they seem to be improving. They also have enough current/former Premier league defenders on the roster to achieve at least a tie if they wanted to pack it in and play that type of strategy.

Eastside under... but they'll need to bring the "A" game.
You think Eastside will be under 3 points???
Sorry, I think the 3 point projection is under. I'm going to have to find a bookie for some vocabulary lessons... led a sheltered childhood.
...but saved yourself some money.
What is the weather forcast for that area this weekend?
and are those fields playable in rain?
Saved it, but then ended up losing it all supporting premier league schedules.
An honorable death for your dollar. Mine goes to "huggies" right now.
Weather forecast is spotty, chance of t-showers tonight and tomorrow. Fields are artificial surface however...completely playable, no mud. Won't be cold like last year, either.
100!
Delta Dog,

Good that you took the over on Eastside and I hope they do well. I know Eastside had a rough going in the Viking Cup and I'm glad to see that they have one of their impact players back. Eastside really got a tough draw in this tournament, which will hopefully make them stronger come May.

I'd love to see Eastside knock off one of those three teams.....especially Butler (who played Fort Mill to a draw last spring, and beat Fort Mill in the indoor league this winter).

Go get Butler!
It's late...like REAL late, so I'm gonna keep this simple tonight. Scores from tonight's matches:

Forsyth Country Day (NC) 1
Spring Valley 0

Lake Norman (NC) 1
Spartanburg 1

First Assembly of Concord (NC) 6
Northwestern 1

Charlotte Catholic (NC) 1
Fort Mill 1

Lots of quality soccer still to come!
You were outprayed Cesar. No shame in being defeated by God's will. You'll get the next one!
Lake Norman-Spartanburg match was very entertaining. Two very good, well-coached teams....and lots of skill.
*Note - 1 point is awarded for goal differential (not goals scored), up to a 3 point max.

Point Standings:

First Assembly of Concord 9
Forsyth Country Day 8
Charlotte Catholic 3
Lake Norman 3
Spartanburg 3
Fort Mill 3

Thanks! Keep us posted!
The late afternoon games and the evening matches were cancelled due to the weather.

Bad news.....Ardrey Kell never got to play a match.

The good news....all South Carolina teams will play two matches so tournament scoring still works.

Irmo 8
Northwestern 0

TC Roberson 5

Thank you to all players, coaches and spectators. Congratulations to Dutch Fork.

We'll see you all again next year.
Should have bet the over/under...Oh well, maybe next year...
Congratulations to Dutch Fork.

Thanks to all those folks in Fort Mill for what is clearly one of the best girls high school tournaments in the state. Really appreciate all of the effort folks put in up there. The facilities were once again amazing. And in difficult conditions, I thought that the decisions made about game cancellations and rescheduling and the like were spot on. Great job!
Congratulations also to Eastside. Their 2-1 win over Butler was a tremendous result and they gave Lexington all they could handle in a 1-0 loss on Sunday morning.
As quiet as an abandoned church in here today...
Here you go McCoy,

Any teams that impressed you this weekend and why?

Any teams that disappointed you this weekend and why?
I have Lexington with 16 points. 12 for the two wins, 3 goals and 1 shutout = 16.
Unless it is based on goal differential, then 15 is right.
Goal differential per rules posted
Shudder to think I might suggest this, but if goal differential is cumulative then should Eastside be... 6 points (win) + 1 (win diff.) - 1 (loss diff.) = 6 points?
There's no "negative goal differential" figured into the scoring system.
Dutch Ford.....Nation Fork. What's the difference?

Is this a case of "physician, heal thyself"?

Or, Ozzy Osbourne "self medicating"?
?? There's a difference ??
FM BB&T Invitational All-Tournament Team:

Lake Norman - Caroline Moffett
Northwestern - Kristen Page
Dutch Fork - Sam Vickers, Katie Wallace, Dorthy Gasiorowska
Lexington - Kira Campbell, Emily Adams, Taylor Rutland
Fort Mill - Abbie McDonald, Kirsten Whitman
Irmo - Haley Hutchens, Bianca Warder
Spring Valley - Danielle Shaw, Kristi Newton
TC Roberson - Meghan Gilmore, Mackenzie Davis
Butler - Hannah Holsclaw
Spartanburg - Claire Hodge
Eastside - Jennifer Fowler
Forsyth Country Day - Alex Hunt
Charlotte Catholic - Callie Merriam, Nadia Soussi
Surprisingly, for a tournament hosted in the midlands with only two upstate SC teams, there were four players from a single upstate club team (CESA U18G team - TC Roberson: 2, Spartanburg: 1, Lexington: 1) with only one girl from an upstate high school program.

Less surprisingly, there were 4 girls from the very good CUFC U17G team (DF: 3, Irmo: 1) and 2 girls from the CUFC U18G team (Lexington: 2.)

Don't have access to a Charlotte club breakdown; but would be surprised if a few clubs weren't very well represented.

What makes this tournament unique is the Fort Mill's bringing together some of the better North Carolina clubs to play in South Carolina. Thanks to Fort Mill again for hosting this; great tournament!
Don't forget CUFC U16G (State Champs) D Shaw (SV) and B Warder (Irmo)
Bill Tooley has a great report from the FMI in "80 Minutes" this week.

Another player added to the FM BB&T Invitational All-Tournament Team:

AC Flora - Logan Holler
Ashleigh Sheets was named this weekend to the Charlotte Observer All-Area second team. She is the only South Carolina player to make the squad in 2008. I think the only other SC girls to ever make a Charlotte Observer All-Area team were Jen Ficklen (Clemson), Danielle Schmitt (Clemson) and Rachel Datz (Lander).

Some of the North Carolina girls listed played in the BB&T Fort Mill Invitational this past year, and some of them (their teams) have been invited to participate in March 2009.
