On the girls side the u-15,u-17 and u-19 girls have been posted. No girls teams from sc.The u-16 and u-18 will be posted today. Some of the nc teams in it are a little odd.Atleast in the u-17 age group.

Give us the link to the accepted teams (and tell us who is "odd"?)

the casl site has the list up.the u-17 fvaa team and twin city would be the odd ones to me.i would of thought the cufc(charlotte) teams would of went.unless those teams got in over cufc.

U-17s are very interesting.

Charlotte Soccer Club Blue
Charlotte United Futbol Club Gold
CESA Premier

None of these teams are in. Not sure if CSC Blue applied (firsttouch?)

Charlotte United Gold beat FVAA Red 4-0 last week. Fuquay-Varina is in, CUFC is not. Wow!

if blue is not in, i would assume they did not apply.

is this the showcase or the shootout; the showcase draws the college coaches and is during the ncaa tourney; the shootout is just a tourney that casl holds..so they may be going to that..a thought
Posted By: Truth Re: CASL tourny - 10/08/08 05:31 PM
I hope that kickinit70 calls up to Charlotte Soccer Club and lets them know that they are doing a disservice to their players by not going to the CASL tournament. I hope those Charlotte kids don't have to settle for in-state colleges next year.

The Charlotte Soccer Club teams are playing in the Red Bull league at CASL. Same with the CASL Elite teams. None of the Red Bull League teams are listed

Hey Harry, any more clever comments?
Posted By: Hard Headed Re: CASL tourny - 10/09/08 12:06 AM
ok kickinit70! how about giving us the recap of your views on teams not going to the big tournys.i bet there are some upset parents right now that their kids team either didnt get in or apply to some of these up coming tournys. if you are not going to disney and you didnt get in or apply to wags or casl then a teams chance for playing in front of college coaches is basically over for the year.
Posted By: keeepersd2002 Re: CASL tourny - 10/09/08 12:20 AM
i would disagree with the comment above, as i am a former college coach..there are plenty of tourneys coaches attend throughout the year...yes, the tourneys named above are big ones and probably alot of coaches attend and teams may have exposure to larger/higher quality teams, but there are still plenty of tourneys to attend and i have seen a good junk of coaches at them...it depends what the player is looking at too-in terms of school; plus wags can be hard to get to as it is usually during the college season...jefferson cup is a good one in the spring, but in SC they are playing high school soccer; so is the norcross tourney in atlanta; and another one bethesda puts on...i saw college coaches at these tourneys too

i agree that some smaller tournys have college coaches at them.a few weeks back i saw a couple at the cesa classic and i even saw one at a high school tourny put on by rock hill high.i think for the premier player that is looking to play at a high level the likes of disney, wags and casl are the place to be.im not talking about the younger age groups.they have time.at the bigger tournys you also have a larger number of coaches attending.

Yes, I have one. I'm looking at the CSC website and I see the '90 commitments. I'm wondering why Doug Ryan had to 'settle' for committing to in-state Wake Forest and why Megan Brigman had to 'settle' for committing to UNC-CH. If only they had gone to more big events, they could have gone somewhere out of state. Their club must have let them down.
Posted By: southeastsc Re: CASL tourny - 10/10/08 12:19 AM
There are some teams from SC who were accepted into the CASL Shootout. They are just in the younger age groups..........
Posted By: kickinit70 Re: CASL tourny - 10/10/08 05:42 PM
List the events their club teams went to and my point will be made. Their teams went to big time events and then they chose to still stay in state. That's not settling.
Posted By: Soccer4fun Re: CASL tourny - 10/10/08 05:51 PM
The CASL Shootout is over the same date as the 1st round of State Cup. You can't be in two places at one time.
Posted By: Hurst66 Re: CASL tourny - 10/11/08 01:41 AM
About six years ago, a CESA Premier (heck, it could have been a St. Giles team) played in the Raleigh (CASL) Shootout. They were the top seed in the SCYSA state cup and they earned the right to host the first round match versus a Discoveries U-18 team. The team from Greenville decided to play Discoveries in Rock Hill on the Friday night before the tournament. They drove up, escaped with a 1-0 win on a goal in the last five minutes (they were obviously thinking about The Shootout), and then jumped in their cars and headed back up I-85 to Raleigh.

I thought that was pretty cool (and I never heard how they did in the tournament that weekend).

I don't think you can pull this trick now because CASL requires you to play matches on Friday.

last year our first round game was mid week. the plan was to go to casl this year but didnt get in.

I am asking this with real sincerity--How does a CESA team NOT get in to the CASL tournament? I realize that the CESA teams may not "kick can" in the Premier league or in Regionals but they still are the best club in SC--how can they not be allowed in the tourney?
Posted By: Hard Headed Re: CASL tourny - 10/11/08 03:19 AM
cesa hasnt went to casl the last few years so that may be some of the reason why they were not accepted.only about 5 teams from north carolina in the u-17 bracket.charlotte united that is in first place in the nc premier league didnt get in.
Posted By: Big Daddy Re: CASL tourny - 10/11/08 01:47 PM
Politics?

Maybe CESA should start entering their teams a little sooner/younger. Then at u16-17 its not a problem.

CASL has a good thing going with their Showcase stuff and I don't think they "need" anyone to participate. If CESA stopped sending teams, too bad. That may be the CASL attitude.
Posted By: keepcoach01 Re: CASL tourny - 10/11/08 02:24 PM
The reason there are no South Carolina teams in CASL has nothing to do with sending teams at an earlier age or feeling that they don't need to send teams there. The reason is because for the last 3 or 4 years the showcase dates have fallen on the same weekend as the 1st round of state cup. So teams could go to CASL, but they would forfeit their state cup spot. This year is no different, the showcase is on Dec 5-7 and the first round of state cup is Dec 6.

So how many u13-14 teams from CESA or CUFC or Bridge or Mount Pleasant or Discoveries are playing?

I was told......that one of the reasons CESA stopped sending teams was because CASL didn't reciprocate.

I don't mean any disrespect to any of the teams entered. However, in the U-13 age group this tournament will feature the 16th best team in NC, the 18th best team in VA, the 9th best team in FL, and if CESA entered there would be 6 teams from SC. In the U-14 age group this tournament is proud to display the 9th best team in GA, the 10th best team in MD, the 14th best team in NC and the 17th best team in VA. This is all assuming that the teams that applied and were accepted were the best teams in each state.

The point being, other than the top bracket this is hardly an exclusive tournament. There is no telling which bracket you may be stuck in and what competition you may get, not to mention where you will be playing.

Just out of curiosity, what is the entry fee for this tournament?
Posted By: southeastsc Re: CASL tourny - 10/12/08 02:31 AM
The entry fee per team is a whopping $995. This includes 18 tickets to the Women's ACC Tournament being held that same weekend....
Posted By: Big Daddy Re: CASL tourny - 10/12/08 11:40 AM
Another reason why CESA allegedly stopped sending teams. No reciprocity, marginal fields, very expensive. But.....

There is no disputing that it is a loaded tournament with great teams and a ton of college coaches.

The COAST FA U-12 BOYS lost 0-1 in the finals of the top group and the MT.PLEASANT U-11 BOYS made it to the finals in the second group. Pretty good showing by some S.C.teams.
