Last man back stops a ball going over his head with his hand, while being pressured by a forward. They are about 25 yards out and the goalie is securely in his box. What's the call? Does the defender get a yellow or a red?

you tell us........

that is totally unsporting behavior an deserves at least a yellow card.

But, if the foul prevented an obvious 1v1 with the keeper, or the momentum of the attack was quite strong but disrupted by the intentional handball, then maybe a red card is due.

I don't know, but if I saw the play in question I would have a solid answere. Many factors apply. A handball in the box deflecting a shot is definately a red card offense. But one 25 yards out? depends on how much advantage the referee thinks the offending player gained from the handball (and how much guts the referees has).

The ref threw a yellow card. He believed in his call so much, he ejected the opposing coach for vehemently argueing. A matter of prospective I guess. No solid answers.

at least the referee had conviction and confidence about his throwing a yellow. Coaches need to shut-up anyway.

One of the beautiful aspects of the game is that so many plays can happen in very different ways. It's almost an "art" to be a good referee. In one instance a foul might be severly punished, in another the ref might let it play-on

Ah, "Advantage." Off the topic, but I wish more refs would call the advantage and let play continue when the foul *clearly* does not hurt or slow down the other team.

observer...re: coaches(and parents) just shutting up. I totally agree. I think all those on the sidelines who think they know better, should think at least twice, about opening their mouths. But sometimes a coach makes the difference when a call is really off base. I guess a good coach just knows what battles to take on.

I was at that Game..Ref was not the best..i would have called it a Red Card..player was clearly able to go on a break away to goal..Coach had a good point..did he take it too far..well,maybe,,can speak for him because he is a personal friend of mine and has done well with that team the past few years.Never scene parents so awful in alot of years as coaching.

As I recall, it was the last game of the day(5pm).
Two teams of refs had been out there all day, on two fields, calling game after game. By the end of the day, they had already seen both of these teams play and had formed opinions about both the players and the coaches. Do you think this factored into how the final game was called?

there is a good web site to ask questions like this, asktheref.com just pose the question and they will answer to you via email and post your question and answer on the web site.

I also agree that parents should refrain from yelling at the ref. for the most part they do not have any idea what the call is or how it should be made or the laws of the game for that matter. if they think they are so good at calling the game, take a class and do it from the center of the field. it is much more difficult to call a perfect game on the field while it is so easy to do so from the stands. as to the coach he should know when to stop.

red card if chad domis gets one for saving a goal everyone else should unless something was going on between wando and the ref
