Has anyone seen these games yet? They are very intertaining and well attended in Canada. They are being aired on ESPNU and run with about 3 or 4 repeats.
If you get the chance check out Brazil v Poland one of the most dramatic games I have seen in many years. I see it will air a few more times in the next few days.
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/03/07 02:12 PM
US plays Poland 7/03 at 5pm on espnU. It will be the 2nd match of group stage for both. A lot riding on this one should be a great one.
Posted By: Coach Young Re: U20 World Cup - 07/04/07 01:42 AM
I saw USA vs South Korea and, frankly, we were not very good at all. I hope the next match fairs better for us.
Posted By: futbol09 Re: U20 World Cup - 07/04/07 02:55 AM
I saw the Mexico vs Gambia game and well i was proud of giovanni's goal.
Posted By: SC SOCCER10 Re: U20 World Cup - 07/04/07 04:34 AM
Adu and Sztela showed why they soon will be in Europe. Giovanni Dos Santos is simply brilliant. Him and Bojan Krkic (16 year old who withdrew from Spain's U20 squad) will be a good addition to Barcelona's A Squad this upcoming season.
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/04/07 02:01 PM
The US seemed to have patched up the issues from the ROK game. Poland had a better feel for the "sprint turf",just unable to convert. US goals were great quality. 5 from playmaking and hardwork. One from a set pieces, a 13 yard header top of the corner. These boys were great to watch, heads up play all around. Poland did lapse a few times on defence, but the US saw the openings and took them quick.
I believe I heard the attendance was 25,000. That is amazing Go Canada!
Posted By: Coach Young Re: U20 World Cup - 07/04/07 02:10 PM
6-1!!!! Now we're talking boys!!!
Posted By: SharksFutbol Re: U20 World Cup - 07/04/07 08:29 PM
Hey last night i saw some of the highlights of the U20 and man these guys are scoring some off the chain goals!!!!!!! Adu was a monster and the goal by the Korean dude was outrageous!!!
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/05/07 12:10 AM
Yeah these games are very well played. The players don't fall as easy and seem to get up much quicker. They also seem to use less magic sponge and water on their boo boos.
Mexico and Portugal comes on tommorrow. US v Brazil on friday I believe. EspnU is doing a great job with the airing of this event.
Zizzo and Adu linked up very well. Rogers and Bradley did a bunch of grinding work to create many chances.
What is really interesting is there are a few on the team that had options to play for other countries. Choosing the US as insiders says a lot for our program.
It has that old Olympian feel to it.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 02:11 AM
Ok after watching the MLS game on tonight I heard that they will be showing USA vs Brazil Friday @ 7:30. I checked online on the ESPNU website and it said it is gonna be on ESPN not ESPNU or ESPN360. But when i looked on the DirectTv schedule it showed some redneck nascar thing on at that time.

Anyone else here that it is gonna be on ESPN, is DirectTv just slow in updating their scheduling for tommorrow?
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 04:20 AM
I scanned ahead on my on tv channel menu and it has BRZ v USA 7:30 espnU. It may also come on another channel in another area.
On ussoccer.com it has listed espnu and galavision 7:30.
I know it's tough, I missed many a game due to wrong posted schedules.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 12:14 PM
During my many searches of trying to find the Copa America streaming online I thought I ran across somewhere that streamed espnU. I will look again and post a link if I find it.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 12:17 PM
Correction just looked on TVGuide.com and they have the u20 USA game scheduled for ESPN @ 7:30.....THAT IS GOOD NEWS!!!

I believe it was originaly going to be on the secondary ESPN's (ESPNU, ESPN360) but due to the teams succsess has been bumped up! That is why some sources havent updated it yet.
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 03:23 PM
That is great news, they do deserve the the notch up. So what gets bumped I wonder, The World Series of Strongest Man Poker?
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 04:08 PM
when i checked it last night on the directtv they had some nascar thing
Posted By: futbol(soccer) Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 05:17 PM
3 Cheers for whatdoesitmatter.... thanks for getting the ESPN info.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 10:17 PM
wait a minute dont cheer for me yet, every online site says that it is going to be on espn, but the directtv website still has nfl live in that time slot.....so does the guide on my directtv.

This could mean that you cable people are fine and the directtv people like me are screwed. I dont know, I am still hoping that directtv has just not updated it.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 10:22 PM
the question now is does directtv have the power to overide espn?
Posted By: SharksFutbol Re: U20 World Cup - 07/06/07 11:23 PM
This should help you out WDiM

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/gridNFIndex

And I'm looking at my tv guide on Dish Network and it says USA vs. Brazil
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/07/07 01:42 AM
yea directtv played it and what a game it was.

I always downplayed Adu from what I saw of him years ago, but man he is turning into a real playmaker.

Can you even say enough about our goalkeeper, DID THEY BRED SPIDERMAN AND SUPERMAN INTO ONE TO CREATE HIM?!!!

This is the first game I got to see of our U20 team, and Altidore and Adu really seem to mesh well together, actually the whole team seems to play very well together.

Did I mention that our keeper was amazing!

But now the big question
I ESPN GONNA COVER THE REST OF THE USA'S GAMES THRU THIS TOURNAMENT, I SURE HOPE SO.
Posted By: futbol09 Re: U20 World Cup - 07/07/07 04:12 AM
i saw the last couple of minutes of the game when the score came to a 2-1. Brazil after that just took it to the US but were not lucky enough to put on in the net. On the second goal what ever Adu calls that move it was marvelous (spel).
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/07/07 06:28 PM
Adu was very key to the game no doubt. He is maturing very well. He now knows he will draw focus and uses it to free others into scoring chances. The US program has done very well with developing him.
Ok here is a question. Into 2nd Stage, the US wins group and plays the 3rd in groups(B E F ). Does this mean...the best 3rd placed team in that order is sloted here? Not really up on 2nd stage 24 team torney any ideas on what matches to watch to see our next opponent will be. I see B= ZAM 1 pt., E= DPR 2pts., F= CSR 0 pts.
I assume we will play DPR?
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/08/07 02:11 AM
Ooops got ahead of myself didn't see that some teams still had a game to play. Ok now after group stage URG 4, CSR 3, DPR 2. I guess we have URG on wednesday.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/08/07 11:52 PM
here is a good website. from this you can stream MLS games and ESPN360 for games and game repeats. Pretty handy to have this linked.

Posted By: Hurst66 Re: U20 World Cup - 07/09/07 03:42 AM
They replayed the US's second goal against Brasil two or three times and each time they did, Adu had already beaten the defenders. It's a shame they didn't wind the replay tape back a little further......I still do not know how he got through both of those defenders?!?!
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/09/07 10:31 AM
Very true even the main camera didn't pick it up very well. I taped the game and it is hard to see. He took the throw in near the corner, back to 2 defenders. Went into the corner shielded and then turned faked the back line and flipped the ball up and jumped between the two. Thats when the main highlite picks it up.
Youtube may have the complete clip, starting with Zizzos throw in.
Posted By: Kevin Heise Re: U20 World Cup - 07/09/07 11:30 AM
Here is the link on YouTube. You'll have to let it go to about 6:50 before you see Adu's heroics, but it's well worth watching the other highlights as well.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/09/07 05:25 PM
after looking at that bracket i dont see any reason why they should not make at least the semifinals
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/09/07 07:32 PM
Ok WDIM give us your path to the finals.
My guess. Thru URG...Gam...ESP...ARG for the Cup.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/10/07 02:31 AM
Here is my shot in the dark for their path:

USA:3
URG:0 (1 if the goalie is still hurt)

USA:2
GAM:0

Now it is really a shot in the dark

USA:2 OT
BRA:1

Even more so now but what a final it would be
USA:1
ARG:3

Notable upset.....Congo over Mexico in the round of 16

THIS IS AN S.O.S. ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO FIND ESPNU STREAMING?
Posted By: Big Daddy Re: U20 World Cup - 07/11/07 04:32 PM
The game is tonight? Dang......I've been walking around assuming its tomorrow night. Can someone confirm?
Posted By: letmeputittooyouthisway Re: U20 World Cup - 07/11/07 04:34 PM
is ESPNU available on T-W Cable in Columbia?
Posted By: Soccer16 Re: U20 World Cup - 07/11/07 05:06 PM
From what I found it will not be offered in Columbia until July 19th. It looks to be under the digital tier channel 160. A day late, dollar short!
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/12/07 02:19 AM
FINAL SCORE:

OT
USA:2 88' own goal 107' Bradley
URU:1 74' Suarez

That is the longest I have ever watched a gametracker and not been at work. PUT THE DARN THING ON ESPN!!
Posted By: futbol(soccer) Re: U20 World Cup - 07/12/07 02:31 AM
WDIM....although I feel for you, I sprung for the additional cost for Galavision... I can tell you that the US did not deserve to win. Uruguay wa sthe better team most ofthe game, but the US did what they had to do. Of concern are injuries, and from the looks of the starting GK limping to congratulate Perk looks like the youngster will be playing the next game.

What was very obvious to me was the strategy that Uruguay employed, but what I thought work the best was drawing fouls over and over... diving is definetely an art form.

Austria is next
Posted By: Hurst66 Re: U20 World Cup - 07/12/07 02:48 AM
I saw the game on the big screen at a Dave & Busters in Philadelphia (no sound). US gutted it out, doing what they had to do to earn the goal in the final 3 minutes of regulation.

That's two tough losses on consecutive days for Uruguay.
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/12/07 11:58 PM
It was gritty, not a flowing game at all. The usual after group stage and everyone faces elimination.
URG I believe really shot themselves in the foot. If they had let the game open up they would've taken the US. They controlled the tiempo by diving contantly. They were hitting combos and then took a seat.
I did enjoy seeing all the US eleven with their hands over their hearts during the anthem. They seemed really focused and honorable. I think it served them well to not get lured into the mess URG was attempting to trap them with.
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/13/07 12:14 AM
How interesting is it to watch Bradley develop? With the senior squad in the Gold Cup he had a lot to prove. With his father as coach and the big name squad. He started out with many doubters and ended with worries that he was eliminated from the final.
Now in U20 WC he is amongst peers and has become sometimes reckless. He is Charlie Hustle without a doubt. At the end of the URG/USA match he gave Adu the full weight of being captain. Which I think Adu handled as a very mature pro.
It's going to be great fun watching him and all these great young men come around.
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/13/07 02:00 AM
I agree coach Tim it is really interesting to watch these guys develop. Even over the short amount of time you can see improvements.

If you get the chance check out the last 5 minutes of the Chl v Por match it was as bizzare as it could get.
I will comment on it later after given a chance to youtube it.
After this happened I was thinking back on the other wild events so far...
I am drawing a blank on the teams. About 10 minutes left, all subs have been used, keeper is ejected. The coach was telling a player to step in goal. To which he decides he can't hear or "I think he means you"
Posted By: SC SOCCER10 Re: U20 World Cup - 07/14/07 02:13 AM
The lack of discipline the Portuguese have is shocking. I have never seen that happen.
Posted By: Jack Rozier Re: U20 World Cup - 07/14/07 02:23 AM
WOW

Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/14/07 02:25 AM
Yeah imagine what was he thinking.."Possession is 9/10 of the law"?
Posted By: SharksFutbol Re: U20 World Cup - 07/14/07 05:38 PM
I've seen that highlight like 10 times and i' still in awe over it. First the Portuguese pushes the wrong guy and then teh other player just snatches the card from the ref's hand????? I wonder how our referees would react to an incident like this
Posted By: WhatDoesItMatter Re: U20 World Cup - 07/14/07 06:45 PM
hahaha...

o by the way US is up 1:0 Altidore 15'
Posted By: futbol(soccer) Re: U20 World Cup - 07/14/07 08:54 PM
Austria 2 - 1 in OT.... US with a very poor performance. Somebody better start feeding Adu if he is to play at the next level...

Rain the great equalizer.

Too many bad decisions in tight on goal ...if you are playing with 10 you have to at least get a rebound
Posted By: The Fan Re: U20 World Cup - 07/15/07 01:38 AM
How about too many CARDS!
Posted By: Coach Tim Re: U20 World Cup - 07/17/07 12:50 AM
What a heartbreaker. I would have to say first thanks to the US U20s for giving such a great show. I was very pleased with them and they represented America very well.
The game was like a rusty hinge, only once in awhile there was some sort of flow. The tension the rain the pressure they just ran into the wall.
When Adu found Josey it was real gold. But somehow those two ended up 100 meters apart the rest of the day. The rest was just a ton of very rash tackles after being beaten.
What would have been interesting is how many would've missed the next game due to cards. Then do you play a player with a card into a semi and miss the final. Wow what drama.
Can't wait to see these boys when they come up to MNT.
