The High School Coach’s Role in College Recruiting -
NSCAA - High School Coach & Recruiting
Actually, a proactive coach will identify prospective college recruits at an earlier age (no later than 9th-10th grade) and encourage them to meet with their guidance counselors regarding NCAA Clearinghouse Standards.
Most kids and parents have no clue as to the specifics of the Clearinghouse, and many should tailor their academic load to meet the standards. Second semester of junior year MAY be too late.
This might be particularly relevant at a time when an increasing number of SCHSL kids are immigrants, or children of immigrants, for whom English is a second language. This can impact both classroom and standardized exam performances, affecting academic qualifications -- even for very bright kids.
