Each state is only guaranteed two teams. If a team qualifies automatically for the next years league and then wins state cup then only the state finalist who lost to them will get in automatically. The 3rd place teams can apply for entry but it is highly unlikely that they will be accepted over the teams from GA,NC and FL who will be applying as wildcards.

Not according to the SCYSA Administrative Manual which says "...If your team finished or is declared a 1st or 2nd place finish in the previous years Premier league then you will be asked to play in the Region III Premier League, if this opportunity arises, then 3rd place team in the Publix Challenge Cup will be asked to play."

By this policy, the CUFC U15 girls who finished third in the U14 Challenge Cup last spring played in the R3PL this fall as a third SC team.

My understanding is that this was a new policy effective for the 2008-2009 seasonal year.

Just to clarify my understanding of the policy: If a team finishes 1st or 2nd in the R3PL, that team's state automatically receives three R3PL slots in that team's age group for the next season.

not always a good thing for a 3rd placed from sc to agree to play r3pl. cost, travel, losing gets old really quick.

Been there done that...playing RIII sucked the love of the game right out of my daughter. Trained their butts off only to get beat down every match!

If your not a dominate team from SC you may want to think twice about the RIIIPL.

You can be a dominate team and still get your butts handed to you every game..There are a few successful teams but most are not at that level

North Carolina has their own rules. State Cup loser does not automatically get into R3PL.

does anyone know if south carolina has ever had in the same year:
1. three teams (same age/sex) play in RIII, AND
2. more than one of them have reasonable success? (to me, this means top 50%)

seems like, typically, one of two teams will do well, while the second team does poorly. just wondering if there is any way for us to send three teams without at least two of them getting abused.

This years U18 Boys had CESA 90 Premier, DSC 90 Green, and CESA 90 Challenge in it. CESA Premier came in 2nd and DSC came in 3rd.
