Recap of the Wando West Ashley Lower State Championship

West Ashley came out inspired in the first half creating a PK opportunity in the 4th minute. The PK attempt sailed a little high clearing the crossbar. West Ashley kept the pressure on for the first half and probably had a slight edge in the run of play holding Wando to just two shots on goal. West Ashley is a strong physical team and won most of the 50 50 challenges. The game went to halftime scoreless.

Coach Champ must have pushed the right buttons at halftime because the Wando girls came out and took over the game in the second half. Jennifer Riley scored on a ball she slipped under the diving West Ashley keeper to break the deadlock. Wando spent most of the second half pressuring the West AShley final third. Nora Bishop tallied the second goal on a great individual effort. The third goal came as Wando got numbers up in the box and a great ball was rolled to Caroline Williams who finished in the open net. As time ran down it was evident that Wando's depth had taken it's toll on the legs of the West AShley girls. Wando's final goal came with less than 2 minutes to play as Madeleine Fellabom snapped a strong header from just inside the 18 to the lower left corner of the net. A West AShley defender cleared the ball of the line but Nora bishop was there to clean it up for the brace.

This victory for Wando was a total team effort. Coach Champ has done great job creating a team with so many interchangeable parts. West Ashley was a much improved team from the one Wando faced earlier this season. Coah Drew McNeely has done a great job building this team. Congratulations to the West Ashley Ladies on a great season.

Wando and Mauldin will face each other in a re-match of last years State Championship on Friday. This looks to be a great game. I look forward to Friday as the Lady Warriors continue their quest for a Three Peat.

Excellent recap by MRoss with well-deserved compliments to both teams. They match up well man-to-man, but Wando has developed very impressive depth that makes it near-impossible to outlast them. I've enjoyed watching both of these squads play; congratulations to West Ashley on a great season, and best of luck to Wando in the finals!

Good luck Mauldin! Wando does have a great team, but they might have a little trouble scoring on that Mauldin keeper... Can't wait to watch this rematch on Friday!
