This past weekend I witnessed a rather puzzling event. We did not have any soccer league games so we decided to travel and watch a few Premier games in North Carolina. Since my older child had previously played in the Greenville soccer scene, we sat back and watched the CESA U15 girls play a Charlotte team. During the game I heard repeated demeaning comments and screamings from their coach. Not a positive or encouraging word did we hear. After the game, my daughter turned to me and said that she would have quit playing if she had to endure that abuse. I know this never use to be the norm. Any insight?

My daughter has also told me after witnessing the CESA coaches (esp. that one) berate the players on the field that she would quit the game before playing there-what fun is it when your coach demeans you in front of your team and everyone?? They know when they make a mistake...They do need to keep in mind that these kids are 14 and 15 years old. She has done well as a player and doesn't need the "CESA" name to get noticed. She plays cause she "loves to play"

Charlotte won,so I am assuming it was the CESA coach yelling.

I wasn't at the game you are talking about, but I would guess the coach was shouting advice and making adjustments to his players not demeaning them. Most coaches in club soccer sit on there butts the entire game without making any adjustments. BTW, I wish my daughter had the privilege of playing for the coach you are talking about, she will finish her club soccer this year and continue playing soccer in college. IMHO, he happens to be one of the best female coaches in the Country and one of my daughers only regrets is she never had the oportunity to play for him.

I'm not trying to ruffle feathers-just stating my opinion,as you have yours. My daughter feels different about the coaching style and that is all I was trying to say. And I have been at games where it is not "advice and adjustments" that are vocalized. I doubt you are going to change my opinion, nor am I changing yours.

It was not advice it was absolute degrading comments. I to know of the coaches reputation, I am saying it was more on the humiliating side. Not encouragement, not explaining, not advice..... I was a little taken aback.....

What difference does it make if they were winning or losing. My daughter has had the privilege of playing on some very good/successful = winning teams and yes the coach yelled at the players all the time, and yes, they were winning. I guess some coaches just expect more from there players than other coaches.

It's premier league, the girls need to deal with different coaching styles, guess we see it a little different, that's ok, I just love a coach that gives a dang about every pass, touch, and possession.
