I have known Mike Mauldin for a number of years and can attest that he has poured his heart and soul into the Yellow Jacket program. I am not certain of all the details surrounding this decision, but can attest that Mike represents the very best of prep soccer and I wish him the very best in his future endeavors!

It is extremely difficult to continue with a program when the parent support is not there. I had the pleasure of coaching against Mike at the high school and club level. We completed an NSCAA course together and his entire focus was on the development of his program and players. I was never able to beat the man but he was always very gracious and humble. I wish him good fortune!

Looking at the timing of his departure I wouldn't think this would have anything to do with the parents but his personal decision to step aside. No AD is going to "replace" a coach 6 weeks before the season starts so whether or not parent support was present, I can't help but look at this situation as anything other than this was Mike's decision solely to step down.

So who is Irmo's new coach going to be? Any rumors?

Who would want the job at Irmo?

They obviously shoo off some of the best...Mauldin and Fredrick. And by the way no one would just quit six weeks before the season soccer2103; that's when the fun is just beginning, shoot even Urban Meyer gave a solid 7 months to deal with his departure. Any coach who leaves 6 weeks before the season starts was solely pressured in doing so and I won't believe it any differently until told otherwise.
