I know they've changed the rule for off-season workouts which allow three weeks of practice in November. But, my question is: can we still do the 8 men and a ball. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

I don't think so coach. I am pretty sure you can only work with two players and a ball now.

Thanks for clearing that up guys. I think I liked the 8 man better than the fall practice idea.

I would love to hear the logical process behind changing that rule.

someone complain because football did not get that luxury? 8 peops and a ball at least you can small side scrimmage and really get prepared; 2 peops and a ball does not do much except technical skills..and more time on the coaches away from everything else...hate this rule and who decided on this and was there any input from soccer peops? i know baseball got the same...

Chass Jerome explained it at the coaches convention in Greenville this year. Basic thought was too many schools were have problems with breaking the rule, or following it correctly. Kids would be playing on the field while the other team members were running around the field , just one example, lots of sports had this problem not just soccer.

Guess I can see that...any rationale behind putting the open season during a time when a lot of football programs will still be using the fields?

None, and you know for a lot of our kids they are playing club soccer so it does not help.
